What if the person God has in mind for us isn't perfect? Are we? Does Christ expect US to be perfect when He calls us to be His Bride or does He do that work through the process of a life with Him?

I think it would make me a little nervous if I found the "perfect guy"..because I'm far from the perfect lady.

So her teeth are a little big? So he thinks he can sing and he can't? So she has Flintstone feet? So he's not as tall as she thought he might be? So she's too thin/heavy? So he has a unibrow? So she works too much? So he doesn't have a job right now? What if there's the purest of hearts/minds in there who is willing to fully devote themselves to you for life?

Perfection becomes what we want to be, not who we are already, not our talent potential or our own abilities! If society must force an idea of perfection on us, then surely we are perfectly imperfect as we are. :) The Lord made us in his image aesthetically, and so hopefully others can recognize that beauty in us- and we in them! Even with the little quirks that make us different from one another and human personality-wise, we can only hope to not impose societal and maybe internal ideas of perfection on others and ourselves, if we want someone we can connect to heart-to-heart.

I think this pic says it 'perfectly'..

I don't want perfection, but I want a person that looks for perfection (God's perfection) and fights for holiness. I want someone who has high standards and strives to accomplish them but at the same time is humble enough to recognize that he won't ever be perfect and glorified until Jesus comes. I hope that makes sense....

I'm so glad you guys get it. Think of the people you love the most in your life. I'm certain they aren't perfect, right? But those aren't the things you think about when you think about those people, are they? Some of their quirks are endearing and even entertaining at times. :)

zeroturbulence!!! You couldn't have said it more clearly! ;)

PS. It's funny how you have reduced my advice of having priorities for seeking your future man for your life, into a mere "list", that's sad :(

I think most mature people have a mental list of some sort that keeps their priorities in mind when thinking about a prospective spouse. I think Jullianna's point in this thread was that some people make their list so detailed and exact that probably no one would meet the standard.

I know for myself I have non-negotiables such as a strong, growing Christian; and negotiables (preferences) such as interests.

I think its ok to have a list, as long as its flexible and doesn't paint one's self into a corner (disqualifies so many people that no one can really measure up to it).

Is this a literal list or a metaphorical list? :) I think having a list is fine, nothing wrong with wanting certain standards otherwise couldn't you end up settling with someone who isn't really the right person for you? On the other hand I don't want to focus all my attention on little details and miss a man who may (flaws and all) be the perfect guy for me! Phew, luckily God's got it all figured out for me. My worry is that I miss God's sign when he does throw the perfect guy for me my way...!
