I agree with all this. Also, police can only do so much. I've watched enough police documentaries to realize that they can't always get to the victim in time. So owning a gun and knowing how to operate it and maintain it are a must if you know you're in an area where the police can't get to you quickly enough.

I'm very remote, we don't call 9-11

Or as they say down south,
"Shoot. Shovel. And Shut Up.

Unless you are a policeman, the police can not get there on time...
The police can only get there when you see something about to happen and have some time.

I was held up at gun point. The police would have had to be psychic to be there in time.

Jesus, in Luke 11:21, said...

“ When a strong man, fully armed, guards his own house, his possessions are safe. " Luke 11:21

Luk 22:36 Then said he unto them, But now, he that hath a purse, let him take it, and likewise his scrip: and he that hath no sword, let him sell his garment, and buy one.

Luk 22:38 And they said, Lord, behold, here are two swords. And he said unto them, It is enough.

Mat_26:52 Then said Jesus unto him, Put up again thy sword into his place: for all they that take the sword shall perish with the sword.

My understanding is Peter got scolded for being aggressive with the sword . Being aggressive is not defense.
Peter was defending Jesus from an unlawful arrest by those who wanted to murder Jesus. That's lawful defense of another.

Slicing off the temple guards ear hearkens back to the parable. That guard was a Hebrew. He had ears to hear, the Gospel, but he did not hear.

Jesus restored his ear. Now he not only could hear but he saw with his own eyes.

To the OP.

1Timohhy 5:8
Anyone who does not provide for their relatives, and especially for their own household, has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever.

My question is very simple. Is it okay for Christians to own a gun legally for protection purposes? I would love to hear what other people has to say in regards to that.

I personally believe that we dont need a gun, but at the same time, arent everyone entitled to protect themselves? Now, you see where the confusion is with me lol :)
I have not read the whole thread.

I have a question for you. Are you really meaning to say:

Should Christians own a gun? (from a biblical perspective - from a God-made-law perspective)

Because, the thread title question is a whole different thing:

Should Christians be allowed to own a gun legally? (from a legal perspective - from a man-made-law perspective)

The word 'Should' combined with the word 'allowed' is the critical issue here - why would you even ask such a question???

The obvious implication is that non-Christians should own guns but Christians should not own guns...???

o_O

"crazy talk"

~

"Is it okay for Christians to own a gun legally for protection purposes?"

Well - yes - it is in the U.S.A.

"Should Christians be allowed to own a gun legally?"

Well - of course.

Since you did not ask the "biblical perspective" question, I will not give an answer for it...

Just ask King George if Christians should be allowed to own handguns legally.

There would be no USA today if that were not the case.

Propagandized people are their own suicide by stupidity gone too far.

“When a strong man, fully armed, guards his own house, his possessions are safe." Luke 11:21

The only thing that can stop that is an armed military.

But when someone stronger attacks and overpowers him, he takes away the armor
in which the man trusted and divides up his plunder. Luke 11:22

So we are not supposed to arm our selves as civilians with weapons of war.
But, for domestic protection....
That means, even against gangs if need be.

Be your own man before the Lord, and don't listen to the world.

I was visiting my cousin who does not own guns, nor wants me to bring mine. Some guy broke in and held them at gunpoint, He did not know I was standing behind him with a gun. He no longer can have children.

When I was in Air force, we turned on all the bomber gun turrets. When someone was walking down the air strip they followed him and he wet himself.

I think in this case it's not a matter of theology but a case of individual conviction.
Amen!

I have A Sword (Hebrews 4:12 AV) That Is Way Better Than any gun! Had the opportunity to tell
my boss that, back in Sep 11, 2001, when we were "watching the Twin Towers fall (on TV)." ;)

Yeah the sling of the King David is equivalent to a gun today... And today we are at war and we are commanded to protect the weak, the poor and our families from the evil.

People like me? Who have had to call suicide hotline like 12 times this year?! Absolutely not! Maybe a rubber ball gun though. Those things are cool! Especially with a laser pointer attachment on them. When I shot my garage, it made a huge dent! Could definitely hurt but most likely not kill.

Welcome to Christian Chat, friend.
I hope you are having a good day.

I agree that there are chapters of life that can be very painful and sometimes unbearable. You and I know that suicide is never a solution.
This has been a time of incredible pain for me too. I decided that I will not do anything that will make the Devil happy. He is our literal enemy and wants to kill us. He has a lot of help. We can't see them, but demons are real. Depression is real too. It's not always from the Devil, but they are good at manipulation when we are going through tough times.

How may I encourage you?
