Why was I born stupid and evil and broken and helpless and unloved and why won't any of the basic Christian platitudes of God fixing this awful murderous hell someday actually comfort me, here, in hell, waiting for something to kill me, and no point purpose or hope to continuing to exist but still scared to die?
Hi, Cory.
Over a month ago, I asked you this in a DM:
Have rejection and condemnation from others been a regular part of your past? I ask because they were a very real part of my past, and that used to be a barrier that prevented me from receiving God's love.
Here was your answer:
Yes, I have lived my entire life under threat of rejection. I don't care whether God forgives me or not, either, I have to find a way to live in this hell where rejection and death are constant threats, or just curl up and die. I have survived on delusions thus far and they all disappeared.
Cory, I am sorry that things like rejection, condemnation, and death have been constant threats in your life, but you need to know that none of those things are what God desires for you. Cory, in Christ, God has graciously made a way for you to be accepted in the beloved, Ephesians 1:6, and free from condemnation, Romans 8:1, while also having the very real hope of eternal life, Titus 1:2; 3:7.
On your "Something to do before I die" thread, you said:
the myth of individual salvation is rationally errant on at least two levels, those being: 1. God, being the only creator of anything, for him to punish himself through his creation or something so stupid as to defy the only goodness in all of creation is just insane
Cory, you are not the first person to find God's plan of salvation to be "insane" or foolish. This is what Paul said while writing to the saints at Corinth:
1 Corinthians 1:18-25
18 For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God.
19 For it is written, I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and will bring to nothing the understanding of the prudent.
20 Where is the wise? where is the scribe? where is the disputer of this world? hath not God made foolish the wisdom of this world?
21 For after that in the wisdom of God the world by wisdom knew not God, it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe.
22 For the Jews require a sign, and the Greeks seek after wisdom:
23 But we preach Christ crucified, unto the Jews a stumblingblock, and unto the Greeks foolishness;
24 But unto them which are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God, and the wisdom of God.
25 Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men; and the weakness of God is stronger than men.
Through the lens of worldly wisdom, which is foolishness with God, the preaching of the cross seems foolish. However, to us who are saved, it is the power of God. Cory, what you called "insane" is perfectly sane. The only way that God, who is just, could forgive and redeem fallen mankind was to find a sinless substitute who would die in man's place. In his great love for you, Jesus willingly became that man. Cory, on the cross, Jesus bore the punishment for your sins. He later defeated death through his resurrection from the dead. If you place your saving faith in what Jesus did on your behalf, then you can find peace with God and rest for your soul. That may sound overly simplistic, but it is the truth.
Romans 10:9-11
9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
11 For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed.
By the way, you are not stupid. In fact, I had to look up the word "platitude" to see what it meant. I am praying for you, Cory.
