Should kids physically go back to school? Explain why.

Sorry, just read this. I don't know if it's the sole problem but agree this made it worse too. People get hungrier and hungrier for affirmations by others and adjust behavior to be more people pleasing and vain. It's why I didn't like when notifications were introduced here, I tried to switch them off to not see when someone likes my post, only when they reply, but still get them I don't know why it didn't work.

There is hardly a problem with only one cause lol. Most everything has many variables that have to be accounted for.

We did receive an email update from our principal today.
We will be notified of dates for picking up supplies needed for classes.
Depending on the grade level depends on what they will be given, but actual workbooks will be provided as well as some text books :) that is a relief.

they are finicky. I have reset mine so many times due to it not reacting as to how I have set them...... :rolleyes: I get notified for stuff I could care less about, just because I posted one or 2 times, but NOTHING for stuff I'm posting on daily........
oh well, that's technology for ya.

Thankfully my wife found out today the county does still offer speech therapy for my kids even in home school.

that's fantastic!
For us, as far as I understand, if we were to get speech therapy (without going through insurance ) it would be through the school district, and for my homeschooler any involvement with district is not a good option at this time.
But we'll get it privately and be able to easily put more time into appointments, after all, we won't have to worry about missing school to make them or evening rushes.

Mind if I ask, how long you've been a homeschool family and ages?

This is our first year homeschooling. We are not worried about covid but the lockdown made is realize it wouldn't be hard to home school. Really looking forward to a Christian curriculum.

My kids are 1.5, 5 and 6.

We doing easy peasy all in one homeschool. Top rated and free. They are having to update their site due how many people are signing up which is great news more Christians are pulling their kids out of secular indoctrination camps lol

thats sad that america indoctrinates children in public schools. I heard they supoosed to peldge allengience to the flag and say all men are equal. But their doctrines arent that bad, maybe its actually worse when no values are taught at all

some people are trying to get public schools here to do the same, like do away with any culture or prayer or anything that has to do with christian values and have no values at all since they think its too hard. But when you value nothing children and adolsecents just get depressed and feel like failures if they dont make the grade. Hence high suicide rates, highest in the developed world, when children grow up believing nobody actually cares about them or that you are only worth anything if you are rich/make heap of money.

the thing is if children are being taught values at home and none at school, children can handle it and are generally resilient, but if children arent being taught or modeled values at home and there is nothing at school either thats when they fall through the cracks.
at least if children dont have values at home and there are values at school they can have a chance. which is why Christians need to think carefully about the reasons why they boycott schools or dont support them because Christians on the PTA or board of trustees and staff CAN make a difference, not just for their own family but MANY families.

In my school days we still had a good old fashioned five knuckle shuffle once in a while.... but if you did, the teacher took a rod and your behind was warm and purple for a day or two... maybe three.

The most I ever saw was a stern talking-to and perhaps an unruly kid suspended. Teachers were prevented from applying corporal punishment but weren't taught how to deal with troublemakers back then.

The best teacher I had in elementary school had a bundle of switches in the corner of her classroom. She had taught most of our parents, and we didn't have to be told to behave in her classroom. She never had to disturb the switches during the entire school year that she taught me. My younger brother found out that she would use them the first day of his class. No more misbehaving for him or the rest of the class that year.

I might add that we learned joy of reading the classics, writing stories, and using math to solve problems.

Back to the OP.

I am on the fence at this time. I have witnessed the devastation in some families that this virus has caused. Many of the cases entered the family through a younger family member. In this area at least a third of the younger school children come home to a grandparent after school. This, I fear is a disaster waiting to happen. I pray that I am wrong.

The 15 to 25 year old group is the fastest growing positive group, and most of them show no symptoms until tested.

thing is usually both parents are working and dont have time to homeschool...only really works if both are at home and can fit lessons in with their regular work. If the child is over 14 they can learn somehwat independently. In large families the eldests tend to take the brunt of childcare work and beccome the carers.

I think if you are going to do it you need to rerrange all your work schedules to fit around lessons time or get your children learning how to work early on so they will grow up learning whatver you are doing. so if you clean houses for a living you will have to take your child to work and clean with you, and maybe pay them a childrens wage. If you are a CEO of a huge company you are going to have to have workplace creches.

the really wealthy had no problems and could just hire a nanny or governess and get private tuition. But even so the wealthy still sent their children off to school the mothers themselves didnt teach the children as they were too busy doing their high society stuff.
 
You could rope in the grandparents, every child ought to have at least one grandparent to dote on them, but it seems a lot of families dont have time for grandparents anymore. as many move AWAY from their parents to have children. Nuclear families are actually not sustainable and an artificial construct, and the whole industrial commute to work thing also doesnt work.

so many children come back to an empty house and then have to look after themselves.

not everyone can be a homesteader, although its the cliches to have your own land, all live together in one house and work on your own land, the reality is those who live in rural areas need to do correspondence school or go boarding school. Unless they can drive or be taxied or bus too and from school,everyday. Children who grow up in farms know they need to work to keep it running, cows arent going to milk themselves.
 
I would say sort of, i think children should be allowed back at school, but children should be safe guarded and take serious safety precautions. Every kid wear safety masks and teachers and teaching be made more visual than auditory.

long story short:
Our district decided to switch to virtual learning for 6 weeks (from after Thanksgiving till mid January)
NOT happy parent here. It's been rough week between technology issues and already homeschooling one that is being interupted b/c having to stop and check in/help the others.

They wanted to start the year virtual, but ended up doing in person.
Many of us now think this was the plan all along. Start in person to make sure eveyone has what is needed and learns how to use it then switch to virtual. :rolleyes: Praying they switch back to in person at the end of this and don't decide to keep pushing it out.
 
No. Public school should be disbanded it is a horrific waste of money, and they do a dismal job of education.
The money should be given to families for the purpose of providing a private education for their children.

That only works when we have responsible parents. Responsible parents in this country are getting harder to find.
