I suggest we get rid of the "similar threads" section at the bottom of each thread. It is suspect of being the reason for bumping/grave digging old threads.

Better yet, make it so that threads which aren't posted on for, say 1 month, auto self-delete themselves. Hence no more zombie threads.. :)
 
They won't get rid of old threads because those old threads help bring in new users. They all work to pop up when people do searches on Google. Deleting them means they don't show on Google, so less people see the site to know it exists.
 
I think under settings,then general settings,there Is a thread age cut off,I set mine to 40 threads per page and I kept It there,but It's adjustable.

I'm not sure though If It Is what you are looking for and I didn't know If you were already aware of It or not,but I just wanted to mention It just In case you were not already aware of It. :)

Thanks for the reminder! People using that feature might help matters, too.

I was referring to this:

Notice the time stamps next to each thread there? They date back a good 1.5 years, with the last reply in some threads being not far from the original date the thread was created. I'm thinking that people referring to that are not noticing the dates, thus reviving threads that have fallen by the wayside.
 
I actually agree with this! Back when I first joined CC, I was guilty of reviving a few threads simply because they were listed at the bottom and seemed to be on topic with what I was posting. It would be nice to have a time cutoff for this box limited to even a few months... at the most 1 year.

I don't mind if newcomers esp mistakenly reply to a not so new thread, esp if the topic is relevant to them. As others have said here, some do not notice the date right away. But it is also that sometimes an old poster said something that u would have almost said if u had the time or if u could, but instead of composing or writing the whole thing, copy a part, or just reply to the OP. The 1st poster may not be around anymore, but if there is something being said that matters to the reader at least, he wouldn't type the whole thing over again (in his mind at least).

For ex. there are endless threads in the Misc. forum, but on searching abt a topic abt a year or 2 ago, there was something interesting or really impt someone else started. It doesn't necessarily clog the forums as some say, as at times newer posts may even do clog more when it is 'small' talk of ppl who aren't so busy at the moment and have time to chat. Some can read and post many times a day, others only on a weekly basis. Some can read/post at 50 mi/hr but others... 5 mi/hr only. Sometimes even I start to post never to be able to return to the thread, or cut short a post unfinished=(.

So what is wrong w/ bumping a thread on coconut cookies u discovered in archives, if u think Oh, this is so easy and inexpensive unlike most Heavenly recipes posted wc I'm sure we like but cannot quite prepare now.. like that with the lamb recently read=).

ps. btw, the similar threads also help show ppl that topics have been discussed before. so when u can read on something u wanted to ask and have answers already, u don't necessarily start a thread again for its been discussed again and again, if u have that time to read howeer.. Like on Rapture, etc.

Yes I saw it and thought they were recent. Before I knew it I was liking posts from years ago. Lol.
