So smoking weed does not inpair you in anyway? It doesn't cause a dependency?
It can... ask the same question about the wine Jesus drank at the last supper.... you have to get around this point Jesus didn't sin while consuming school.

My premise is that if I smoke a joint, assuming it not super high octane weed, then it isn't any more impairment than if you had had wine and thus if Jesus didn't sin, how can I be be sinning.

Wine is part of the sabbath tradition. Now incase you didnt know drinking water back in the day came from wells. The water wasn't recommended for drinking as a regular. It was a community well which could leave one with sickness if drunk on regular bases.
Grape juice as we call it was the preferred drink.
Not all wine was fermented except for celebrations as in marriages.
But in sacred events, sabbaths , and such what we call grape juice was used. Non concentrate of course no preservatives added😅

Because Jesus drank a sip of wine to commemorate His atonement,
whereas you smoke a joint to get high.

The devil tricks many in to believing intoxication is not sinful behavior

It's one of his favorite and most successful snares and is frequently embraced by the greasy grace crowd.

My opinion only:
Smoking "weed" is not Christian. The excuse that it is for Medicinal purposes does not fly with me simply because there are many other products one can consume that provide the medicinal benefit from the ingredients in weed that help with various physical issues. People that smoke weed to so to get HIGH. To alter their mental state. I equate this with the Scripture:

Ephesians, Chapter 5:

18And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit;

Again, my opinion only........

But I don't want this topic to go Haywire it's a serious question but there are some pre-qualifiers that I'd like you to Define

1.Smoking cigarette tobacco is not a sin for example if one has a cigarette in the morning or perhaps after meal it is doing no more damage to a person's body than eating a steak and therefore claiming oh it's bad for you is a misnomer. To the point marijuana is considerably less damaging than a cigarette. If you are already going to claim that smoking cigarettes is a sin then I'm not actually interested in your response as I already know what that response is.

Currently many states allow medicinal use of marijuana and some recreational if we advance time let's say 25 years and we do make an assumption that marijuana is now recreational with similar guardrails that alcohol has.

Based on this premise would Church environments still claim that smoking weed is a sin.

The truth with anything including alcohol is everything should be in moderation as Paul states "everything is permissible but not all things are edifying".

And let me reiterate I'm not asking for anybody to tell me that it is currently a sin. And the assumption is that it is in moderation.

Im asking specifically, in the future when weed is legal recreationally will the church still think it's a sin.
From my experience I have see the issue a neither black or white.
It isn't a cold hard yes or no.

The problem with it is that it can become a selfish habit and people can become dependent on it.

When there is no medical reason and you are just using it for pleasure it is something that is not beneficial.

Like alcohol we are advised to avoid it and be sober so that we can think straight. Marijuana affects your mind and mood which can affect your ability to make right choices.

The out come of using it (selfish use) is not for the glory of God. It makes you lazy and I know first hand people that have become bi-polar from long term use. Some people become irritated and on edge when they are not high. So it becomes something they depend on to be normal. Like I said it isn't black and white we are all different. I see beneficial properties in the the cbd's.

The question that will answer this is....

Am I using this drug for the flesh, is it my flesh that drives me to use this or....

Am I walking in the Spirit and is it the holy Spirit leading me.

Rom 8:1 There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.

I like your answer I think the only thing that if I understand it correctly that I would take issue with is if I smoke it for pleasure because maybe I had a hard day at work and maybe I want to release in the anti-anxiety and maybe a little bit of laughter.

I'm not sure how pleasure would be considered not beneficial it's nice at the end of the day to have a release maybe to go watch a good movie or to take your family out to dinner just seems to me that it it's a potential option to take a break

Pleasure in and of itself I don't see as bad or even non-productive

...and smoking too, as I have been so informed.

It should be obvious to anybody with common sense that smoking is sinful.

God created our lungs to breath in air, not smoke.

The old time preachers used to say if God wanted you to smoke, He would have put a chimney on your back

Of course, it's all about you having pleasure right? God's will is not even being considered.

Keep walking after the pleasures of the flesh and see where you spend eternity.

That would be gluttony which is also sinful behavior because overeating is damaging to the body.

One needs to cut back on their eating.
well i see your point but i was asserting a perfectly normal (unsinful) amount of food.

It should be obvious to anybody with common sense that smoking is sinful.
I am not entirely sure about that. Paul said that all things are lawful, but not all things are profitable. Same goes for alcohol consumption. For the record though, I don't drink. I do smoke, however. Foolish thing to do I know.

I don't use drugs any longer however things that cause pleasure are not necessarily sinful. I could agree to the extent that Smoking may not be a good idea but I think it fails to be a sin in with respect from marijuana or cigarettes so long as it is not a constant just like if bite your tongue or something similar the body heals

God gave us the plant kingdom to use as we needed and on occasion when one finds himself smoking a cigarette or having a glass of wine or smoking a joint legaly of course, there is no sin.

Activities and objects that provide pleasure are not in the of themselves sinful. I can remember when people thought TV was a great Satan and truthfully it has become pretty close to that however it is a useful tool for entertainment news weather and other common things in our surroundings.

Watching an exciting movie within reason doesn't cause you to be in sin.

Pleasure doest not equate to sin. We have dopamine and serotonin in our brain and various things that we experience and consume affect the level of these pleasure such as skydiving riding the Rapids a roller coaster these things cause considerably more pleasure than smoking a joint.

There's no real reason we need to get up in an airplane and jump out people do it for the pure experience and the rush of adrenaline

I guess I should point out I'm not questioning whether it's a sin or not I'm asking you all the question it wasn't a debate to find out how what I should believe I don't believe it's a sin and there's nothing that I've seen or read to the contrary in the Bible only oblique allusions and inferences can be found.

I am not entirely sure about that.

You were not aware the God created our lungs to breath in air and not smoke?

Breathing smoke is perversion of what God created the lungs for.

Paul said that all things are lawful

Is molesting children lawful? What about smoking crack? God good with stuff like this?

I do smoke, however. Foolish thing to do I know.

See, the Holy Spirit has revealed to you that it's wrong and yet you keep choosing to do it.

Trying to get cancer is slow man. Really slow.

Why not quit? Christians have been bought with a price and are not their own unless of course they ignore the leading of the Lord and decide "I don't care what the Lord thinks, I'm going to smoke me some cigarettes!"

You did know it's a proven fact that smoking causes cancer so smoking is abusing the body right?

1 Corinthians 3:16,17
Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you?If any man destroys the temple of God, him shall God destroy; for the temple of God is holy, which temple ye are.

Smoking is in fact sinful behavior and God's grace does not cover willful sin.

Romans 6:1,2
What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound?
God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein?

Those that continue destroying their body are going to be shocked when they die and find themselves going south rather than north.

You're such an extremist and overly dramatic he didn't create them to inhale water either but water is good for us

No the information you have gathered has convinced you that it's wrong you're not convincing me of anything and as for the Holy Spirit I've already spoken to that which is the issue is between me and God not me and you I simply pose the question for discussion not to condemn me with that respect you are the Accuser so be careful where you tread
