Snakes in Worship Service Mark 16:18

When Satan tempted Jesus to cast Himself down from the pinnacle of the temple, Jesus said "
Luke 4:12

And Jesus answering said unto him, It is said, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God.


By handling snakes, these cooks are tempting God.

The cooks are handling poisonous snakes?? I hope none of them get bit, who will make dinner?

You have people in here rejecting that these things are going on because of bad bible versions - and worse than that - unsound doctrine, but millions in Africa are coming to Christ, 40% of who are doing it through dreams, visions or being spoken to directly by Jesus Christ. They ask Jesus to make Himself known to them and He does. One guy was told to travel some distance and wait in a specific place. He waited all day and was getting discouraged, and near the end of the day the guy showed up that Jesus had arranged for him to meet. It's mainly unsound eschatology that blinds Christians. It has far more influence on them then they imagine.

The person used to heal any is an instrument of Yahweh's will. No man has the ability to heal, though he may be called a healer. As for snakes being handled, this is not a command, it is a reassurance from Yahweh that as long as we are in Yeshua, He will be with us. There is no mystique to be added to the Gospel of Yeshua about snakes. The example of Paul during his shipwreck is the prime example of this in function. The entire Gospel is taught in the Word by our Savior, Himself. Trust Him; believe Him. Study His Word and learn of Him for His yoke is easy, His burden is light.

Remember neither fire or lions can harm a person if the Almighty God is for them.

Though i do not feel the urge to play with snakes to prove this..... for it is written and i believe.

If ever the Almighty God tells me to pick up a snake and it will not hurt me, then i would.

It might work on snakes ... but don't make the same mistake Batman did in thinking that it'd work on sharks too. One needs to be extra careful when slung on a rope ladder under a chopper scanning the ocean for bad guys. Only a stroke of good fortune (Robin remembered to bring along a can of Shark Repellent aerosol) helped avert a potential disaster. And for any kids reading this, never attempt to do what Batman's doing in this pic without written permission from your teenage babysitter.

We interpret scripture from scripture. Mark tells us that handling deadly snakes is a sign we are believers, the passage in the Acts shows us the practical application of this (ie accidently bitten or I suppose you could say, grabbing a snake crawling towards a sleeping child...which would be a loving act).
There's nothing to suggest Paul's thorn was sickness, more likely persecution (and, as the thorn turned up after Paul's trip to the third heaven, this isn't relevant to most of us).
It's dangerous to say that bits of the Bible shouldn't be there...this was what Bible criticism was based on. But I believe the Bible we have is there because God was proactive and made sure he gave us the scriptures he wanted us to have. Otherwise people pick and choose whatever scriptures they like ignoring anything that clashes with their world view.

Jesus is speaking to the eleven before Matthew was selected by lot to replace Judas. Interpretation is of the Holy Spirit; it is not something for anyone to assume, it is given. Again, Jesus is addressing the eleven of the twelve who were sent out by Him. Those who believe Him are protected by their faith. Also those who hear and believe the Word. This is not teaching people to tempt the Lord by playing with serpents.

The Little girl who's father was poisoning her would be an example of that verse because she did it not to prove herself...

I had a cassette in the car teaching on this psalm. I listened to it for about a week every time I drove and meditated on it. Two weeks later I was hit head on by a car that came over the brow of a hill on my side of the road. The Doctors said it was nothing short of a miracle that I survived.
