So how do I gain self confidence?

Do things that would ordinarily make you uncomfortable. i.e. talk to large groups of people...
There really is no set formula or plan...Just have to go out and do it.
 
Look at yourself in a mirror and say, "I am a gorgeous manly man." At least 10x mind you.

Well its really easy. Your mind is taking control of you. You think in your head that if i say hey to her then she is just going to slap me. Well trust me, its not going to happen. I delt with this problem about a year ago but now i talk to everyone in the school. I like to say this...its mind over matter. That means that in your head your thinking about t he bad things that will happen. But in reality, nothing is really going to happen. This is what you have to do...just talk to her. You guys will get to know eachother really good. Soon you wont even be nervous to talk to her. So then you can ask her out when you guys are comfortable together and then most likely you will be dating after that. I hope this works for you and just try it it wont let you down

You need to be happy with who you are and happy with you relationship with God, then the self confidence and girl will come after

Gaining self-confidence to get a girlfriend is like eating so you can take a dump. You've got it all backwards! You work on your self-confidence for YOU, to make you happier with who you are and a better person. It's when you've got your relationship straight with yourself, and with God, that the women you're looking for start to gravitate towards you.

Take that with a grain of salt though, as I'm still single. : /

I'm getting the feeling that you really really really want someone right now. Just wait patiently for it. If it's in God's plan to give you that special person, He will give it to you when the time is right. :)
