So strange

Emotions are strange things.

I came crazy close to losing the dog I've had since I was about 11....that bothered me more than almost any death I've dealt with this far in life. I'd never dreamed a person could get so happy over a nasty...stinky...limping ...starving dog showing up. lol.

I have had hundreds of people die in my life. Wife, children, parents, grandparents, friends, enemies, acquaintances, strangers, fellow soldiers, worker friends, patients in my care..... and the list could go on and on.

But the only deaths that have really torn me apart are the little animals that I have lost, especially this last dog I had to have put to sleep last year.

Most of the time I don't care too much that I seem to lack empathy for all the world. But, sometimes this really perplexes me.

I think I can understand it because I have lost both people and Pets. Animals in particular Dogs and Cats are in some ways like small children. They are innocent and to a great extent dependent on us for their survival. Compared to us they live relatively short lives and live for the present not seeming to have any concept of death. We form a bond with them and experience grief when they die. With people at least with Adults it is different in as far as they know that death is inevitable and to a certain extent can prepare for it, and cope with it. Those who are Christian have the hope of seeing their love ones again but with animals we have no real guarantee of that being the case. We can only hope that we will see them again one day.

i don't think i ever came back after losing children. all the other losses seem a little more bearable now.
and i don't understand these zest for life people.

but last year, when my 20 yo cat died... well, i still miss her, and am currently teary.

lol...coming from you I'll take that as a compliment and pretend you actually know me enough to state that.

I really know very little other than....God's capable of doing a lot.

About a year ago I thought I knew a lot. Then God went...NOPE. And turned pretty much everything in life upside down. The tossing isn't over but the one thing I've learned is this- Jonah wasn't a happy man about anything really. Running never fully works and it never leaves you feeling great and I think God rarely just changes His mind. I'd rather end life like Paul....who cares what I know as long as I know Jesus....and what He can do.
