We sometime forget one of the greatest gifts God gave man; our ability to pray:
In pray we acknowledge God’s existence
We do not burst into prayer to a rock or a tree or to any idol, but consciously or unconsciously, we identify the creator. We instinctively reach out to the one who holds the world in his palm and sustains existence with the power of his word. We do not question his limits and we do not doubt his reach.
In prayer we acknowledge God’s nature
We accept without question God’s ability to hear our hearts petitions, and His willingness consider our cries.
In prayer we glorify/exalt God
Going to God in prayer is our praise offered in its most sincere form. God wants us to come to him, our willing obedience is his joy.
In prayer we embrace Christ’s sacrifice
Without even considering the boldness of our actions, we acknowledge our direct and unencumbered access to the All Powerful, knowing we will be heard and accepted by his blood.
Prayer is an act of personal humility
In prayer we acknowledge our weakness. We fall to our knees, sometimes physically but always spiritually, with bowed head going to God in our helpless need.
In prayer we affirm our relationship to God
In one simple act we recognize God and his sovereignty over us. There is no pretense in our relationship to Him when we are on our spiritual knees. He is Lord and we are fully dependent.
In prayer we enter into the presence of God
For a few moments our physical lives fade away and we are totally focused on him alone. We speak directly to him and listen for his voice.
In prayer we seek God’s will externally
We seek God’s will and ask for his intervention in the physical world through prayer.
In prayer we seek God’s will internally
Always included in our requests for physical intervention is a fervent prayer for our spiritual discernment.
In prayer we become isolated from the physical world
There is no physical hunger or thirst in prayer. For a few moments we are protected from temptation and evil.
In prayer we connect with the spiritual realm
Rarely other than in prayer, are we even aware of the reality outside of our immediate senses. In prayer we become connected to our existence in its fullest extent.
Prayer quiets us and calms our soul
When we rise up, we are comforted and reassured. We may have knelt in need but arise renewed.
In prayer we are changed
Many times, we are convicted in prayer and arise with a renewed spirit to address our concerns directly. Arising from prayer we have a different view, and oft a new mission assignment.
“O what a privilege to carry everything to God in prayer!”
