On a couple of other Threads, I spoke about the carnal and spiritual believers, and what Paul taught about them. As I was thinking further on these.......and reading Colossians, I realized that in several places Paul expanded or clarified his thoughts about these two. In the 3rd Chapter, Paul speaks of what believers SHOULD be focused on.......and new believers...who are yet carnal and not able to feast on the meat of the Word should focus on to grow and mature to become spiritual believers......
1) If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God.
2) Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.
3) For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God.
4) When Christ,
who is our life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with him in glory.
By setting our "affections" on heavenly things, we turn away from earthly desires and, in that way, grow stronger spiritually in my opinion. We grow and mature and come to feast on the depth of His Word.
I thought about there being two people inside of me. The carnal believer and the spiritual believer, and these two are struggling to be the most important person in my life walk with Christ.
Which will win out? THE ONE I FEED!
If I spend my time focusing on and desiring earthly things, the carnal believer will be the strongest influence on my life walk, and my views of His Word will be from that view. The earthly view.
If I spend my time focusing on things from above, where Christ is, then the spiritual believer will become the strongest influence on my life.......and the stronger it becomes, the more I will mature in my life walk with Christ......
Feeding the spiritual would seem to be immersing myself in His Word, walking obedient to His will for me, and striving to life a Christ like life.
We all have a choice as to which we will feed...........
