Yes, the sign gifts were associated with an immature Christianity.

The unity of the faith is in the completed New Testament. The process of inspiration was still going on then and now is finished. The apostles passed and early churches set up.

And yes.. when Paul says desire to speak in tongues.. it is to the church of Corinth then. Not to us now.. unless there is nothing limiting its use, but there is with inspiration of the Scriptures finished.

A key thing though is getting these gifts defined rightly. From that point, then it is clearer what has happened to them.
You said: "Yes, the sign gifts were associated with an immature Christianity."

Are you smarter then the Holy Spirit or do you enjoy making things up???

According to your reasoning, the Holy Spirit administered His Holy Gifts to make us immature before God = quite the philosophical look you have upon Scripture.

Please explain how the Apostles were better off and far more spiritually mature before they were Baptized in the Holy Spirit.

This will be quite interesting.

I'm not against it, I'm for truth. If you want to babble nonsense be my guest.
Hey Brother, If you want Truth just kneel before the Word and receive/believe all HE has spoken thru the Holy Spirit.

PS - Stay away from those who make merchandise of the Scriptures

I know where truth is to be found and how to go about finding it. Thank you for your input though.

Agree.

Disagree.

In the church (meetings) not everyone speaks in tongues, but God wants all Christians to speak in tongues.

The unsaved can manifest those qualities. The unsaved cannot speak in tongues.
Weeell.. the fruits of the Spirit for a believer are different to the world. Faith hope and love supernaturally empowered by the Holy Spirit... patience that isn't about self enhancement or personal power, brotherly kindness that is centered in the local church (altho not limited to it) etc..

So "no need" for "Wisdom", "Knowledge", "Discerning of Spirits", "Physical Healing", "FAITH", or "Miracles" in 2022!!!

WHO KNEW!!!

Chuckle!!!
Who today is performing miracles, like raising the dead, or healing the lame. What knowledge today are we missing that the bible does not tell us which was not the case then? The faith that Stephen had as noted in Acts 6, full of faith and power and did great wonders and miracles, not the same as the typical faith we all have in Christ to save us. The discernment of spirits as did Peter discern in Acts 5, with Ananais and Sapphira, not the same. You are comparing apples and oranges.

Paul said this to the church at Corinth then.. so it applies to them in particular.

So then it comes to whether we still apply what is said to them .. to us now.

What has happened since then that would affect the sign gifts?

The apostles have died and their close associates.

God has finished inspiration of the Scriptures.

The early churches have been set up.

The sign gifts were tied to God's progressing revelation and associated with an immature Christianity.

Christianity has matured, and has a completed Word of God. There is no need for signs and wonders.

no worries. God does not force people to accept Christ and He does not force people to accept the spiritual gifts

you can sleep soundly

Look 1 Corinthians 13.. Paul and co.. knew in part, prophesied in part..

Paul also talks of maturing to go from a child to man.

The sign gifts were part of a stage of Christianity without the full inspiration of the Scriptures...therefore it was not matured in terms of having the full revelation of God's Word.

The apostles of course would be mature in the faith.. having died for their beliefs and having personal contact with Jesus. With the disciples they were walking with Jesus for years.

So it's not immaturity in faith.. but an immature stage of Christianity.

Sort of like having zealous and mighty warriors in a city.. but the city isn't finished and the tools to make the city haven't been put down yet.

Generally speaking, tongue talkers and Charismatics don't understand the scripture. They have a lot of head knowledge and can quote scriptures backwards and forwards but they don't have a true understanding of what it means or how to understand it. The reason for this is simple: they base their understanding of scripture on their experiences. That is, they have an experience and then look for scriptures to support their experience rather than truly understanding the scripture and then basing their experiences on truth. This leads to errors one after another.

right. and of course you never scrape the internet looking for negative things about tongues or other spiritual gifts people have said, so you can post them here.

you are doing exactly what those nasty charismatics do according to you

you look for evidence of people who are just like you so you can be convinced you are right

well as they say, even a broken clock is right twice a day

but for the record, people might be doing things wrong because of lack of teaching or wrong teaching, but the Bible most certainly does speak about the need for the gifts. those who say it does not, are in denial

Yes, the sign gifts were associated with an immature Christianity.
there is no evidence to support such a nonsensical statement

if you believe the church (believers) is mature, has no need of knowledge and is perfect, then you lack both wisdom and understanding to put it mildly

Thank You Brother for responding and i do see what you are stating here and even agree in some aspects.

Please answer the following as numbered so that i can follow your thoughts on this - thank you

1.) Were the Apostles more spiritually mature when they were walking 'face to Face' with the Lord Jesus? - Yes/No

2.) When and how did/does God determine that we graduate from the "immature stage of Christianity".

3.) When is/was the "city of mighty warriors" made complete whereby the "tools" are no longer needed.

Peace

i've only participated in 4 or 5 of these Threads about Speaking in Tongues. and each one i say the same thing, which this Pastor Max has now said, ask God for the Gift and be sincere about it and He will give it to you.
Only if the Spirit decides you need that particular gift.
It is not for everyone.

1. All who receive God's gift of the Holy Ghost speak in tongues. (Acts 2:3-4, 10:44, 19:6) Notice all are mentioned, no one was excluded from having the experience.
Please show some sort of scripture that tells us that IF we receive the Holy Spirit we WILL speak in tongues..... I'll wait.

So, you're saying that tongues are necessary? Would you elaborate on that for us? Thank you.

If Tongues are necessary, what am I missing? How am I incomplete? What do those who speak in Tongues have that I do not have?
Speaking in tongues is the actual spiritual communication between the renewed spirit of an individual and the Spirit of God. It's a direct line of communication where God imparts whatever He deems necessary, directly into our spirit, in order to fulfill His purpose. See post #138 for detailed information.

Good day, Rosemary! I hope you are well :)

I don't think I'd ever thought of it that way, as pertaining to the end.

At Pentecost, tongues of fire settled on those gathered in the upper room, when the Holy Spirit of God came:

They saw tongues like flames of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them.

Fire, too, is often used symbolically, in regards to separating the dross from gold.

Thinking about it now, that brings to mind our trials by fire, as it were, when/where we are:

placed under extreme pressure or stress as a means of testing one's ability and expected to learn or perform.

One of my conversion experiences was like that...
Matthew 3:12
His winnowing fork is in His hand to clear His threshing floor and to gather His wheat into the barn; but He will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire.”
This verse comes after , so I thought the fire John was speaking of was at the end of time...Thank you for replying......xox...

That does not sound like baptism/being born again/sealed with the Holy Spirit of God, though... more like being destroyed
