That does not sound like baptism/being born again/sealed with the Holy Spirit of God, though... more like being destroyed
I agree...
Am talking about the fire John mentions ...The fire that will destroy , ...
Sorry if I have confused you , I thought some might believe that John talking about the fire meant speaking in tongues...
Hope you are well also @Magenta ...I should not really comment on such matters that I do not fully understand , but I thought I may stretch out on this one :giggle:......xox...

Good day, Rosemary! I hope you are well :)

I don't think I'd ever thought of it that way, as pertaining to the end.

At Pentecost, tongues of fire settled on those gathered in the upper room, when the Holy Spirit of God came:

They saw tongues like flames of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them.

Fire, too, is often used symbolically, in regards to separating the dross from gold.

Thinking about it now, that brings to mind our trials by fire, as it were, when/where we are:

placed under extreme pressure or stress as a means of testing one's ability and expected to learn or perform.

One of my conversion experiences was like that...
On the day of Pentecost, what happened was to the apostles which fulfilled the prophecy of Joel as well as what was said by John the Baptist, and consistent with what the Lord said to the apostles in Luke 24:49; to tarry in Jerusalem until they received power from on high. It was for them and them only. And it was by them that the miraculous gifts noted in 1 cor12:8-10 which included tongues, was passed on to others by the laying on of their hands. So, does it happen today? No.

The need for the various gifts which Paul equated to the human body was needed then, but not now. Why was there prophecy, because there was no written word to guide, and tongues to convince the nonbelievers, also because there was nothing else to do so. The various body memebers which had various gifts were necessary then. Not now. We have the bible and no longer need prophecy. The word is complete and it's the entire revelation.

The unity of the faith then is clear. It was due to the division they were already expierencing, i e.; I am of Apollos, or I am of Cephas, etc. The letter was to them to address their issues, not us and not based on some yet future event, so it must be looked at accordingly.
We no longer know in part as they did, hence the individual gifts, which were in part. We have the complete word of God and no longer need piece meal gifts.
Believers are told to worship God in spirit and in truth. (John 4:24) We worship God when we submit to having Him affect others through the use of our bodies (vocal cords, etc.) after He has taken up residence in us. Never forget God knows exactly what every single person is going through and what they need to hear and when it needs to be heard; this includes the person doing the praying in the spirit. Clearly God uses the bible to reveal things, but the bible doesn't address things such as everyday incidents/accidents that God can protect us from by prompting us to pray in the Spirit. Things placed in one's spirit though not known on a conscious level are there nonetheless. And, one thing is for sure we can trust that whatever God is communicating via our spirit is done to help us and/or others.

Pray that this sheds some light on the topic.

Concerning this subject, you have been proven to be a false witness by the Holy Spirit when you claim: "It was for them and them only."
This comes from a heart of unbelief.

Please seek Truthful understanding from the Lord Jesus Christ.

Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. This promise belongs to you and your children and to all who are far offto all whom the Lord our God will call to Himself.”
Acts 2:38-39

Sounds like spiritism.

Only if the Spirit decides you need that particular gift.
It is not for everyone.
Jesus received the fullness of the Spirit from John the Baptist, He imparted to the 12, they imparted to the 70, and on and on unto today, and those with the gift of Holy Spirit are imparting still today.
It is the same gift, there are not individual spiritual gifts, some are called to work more in one area than another, but they are not separate "gifts", they are all from the same holy spirit working in us and we each should be able to work in each area if He so calls us to.
best wishes

The Holy Spirit gifts are also 'imparted' without the laying on of hands.
Someone can be Baptized in the Holy Spirit just by hearing and receiving the Word = Acts chapter 10

Speaking in tongues is the actual spiritual communication between the renewed spirit of an individual and the Spirit of God. It's a direct line of communication where God imparts whatever He deems necessary, directly into our spirit, in order to fulfill His purpose. See post #138 for detailed information.
My recommendation to you is that you would simply answer the questions instead of subverting them through silence. If I were you, I would separate yourself from the majority of this group and enter into reasonable, rational, mature, and effective communication. Thus far, I have seen extremely little of it (in this thread).

I don't see anything wrong with your commenting on doctrines that you do not fully understand. I don't think that I fully understand any of them, so as I comment, I am always listening and hoping to find "something" that might help me to better understand. This is one of the reasons why I ask questions. :)

I like what you have offered, here.

Question: What does praying with Tongues grant us that the Interceding Spirit does not?

Romans 8:26-27 NIV - "In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans. And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for God's people in accordance with the will of God."

Is there a difference between an Interceding Spirit and speaking in Tongues? Or, is the speaking in Tongues the actual reflection of what it means to have an Interceding Spirit?

Please show some sort of scripture that tells us that IF we receive the Holy Spirit we WILL speak in tongues..... I'll wait.
I included the scriptures that provide this truth. The records meet the requirement necessary to establish one's understanding of the truth that the infilling of the Holy Ghost was evidenced by speaking in tongues. (2-3 witnesses) And those to whom this occurred encompassed all groups of humanity; Jews, Gentiles, Samaritans none were excluded. As such God revealed what He established was and would continue to be common to all. Everyone throughout history has been a descendant of one of these groups. And since the Lord is continuing to call their descendants the promise of receiving the gift of the Holy Ghost provides authentication that the experience did, and will continue to be the same until Jesus returns. (Acts 2:38-39)
