Twice recently I have had very frightening experiences where an evil menacing entity has placed itself close to me. I sensed it during the time between wakefulness and sleep. The first time I cried out to Jesus Christ for help and it vanished instantly.
The second event was last night . I was afraid to sleep, so I stayed sitting up and I prayed fervently for Jesus's protection. I placed my Bible on my bedside. Eventually I lay down and switched off the light. A short while later I sensed it in the room, I quickly cried to Jesus. It did go away but I heard it as if some distance away. It was roaring, full of rage as if banging on some barrier to get at me. I prayed more and seconds later all was peaceful. I sat up, praying , thanking Jesus. I was able to sleep fine after that.
I know why this happened. In the past I have had similar experiences when I was vulnerable. In recent times I have become really unwell, so very depressed, gradually not valuing life to the point of actually considering suicide.
I am a fully baptized, believing Christian. Yet I have allowed negativity to overwhelm me. I have been festering over the pain others have inflicted on me emotionally over a long time. Allowing myself to resent and hate them. Going against the Bible and Jesus's teachings. This must have left me open to attack from evil, from the devil's demons. They will home in on a vulnerable soul. It IS the soul they want.
I have decided to mend my ways, no more depression. Start valuing the life God gave me. I have let my Bible study go, so I shall focus on it again and increase my prayer life. I just do not want to be afraid to go to sleep!
I sleep separately from my husband because he is a dreadful snorer. Since he is not a believer as I am, unfortunately, I am reluctant to tell him of these experiences because he could become very frightened and think we are being haunted. Only those who understand spiritual warfare can cope with this.
I have my faith and the power of Christ to call upon, that really is the only effective weapon against demons.
So I have written this post to ask for advice about prayers of protection, ask if anyone else has had such events and to warn atheist's that demonic entities are real and truly evil. They want our souls.
Hello, Mary.
In his temptation in the wilderness, Jesus was directly confronted and tempted by Satan himself (Matthew 4:1-11, Mark 1:12-13, Luke 4:1-13), so if anyone tells you that Christians will not be confronted or tempted by Satan or demons, then they are basically telling you that Christians are greater than Christ, and they do not know what they are talking about. If you read those accounts, then you will see that Jesus warded off Satan by quoting scripture to him, or by saying "It is written", or by wielding what the Bible calls "the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God" (Ephesians 6:17), and that is what we need to do when we are under any sort of Satanic or demonic attack as well. Furthermore, Luke's account of Jesus' Satanic temptation indicates that Satan only "departed from him (Jesus) for a season" (Luke 4:13), and this implies that this was not the only time when Satan directly confronted Jesus during his incarnation.
Jesus was also indirectly confronted by Satan when Peter tried to tell him that he did not need to suffer and die, and Jesus rebuked Satan, who was then influencing Peter, by saying "Get thee behind me, Satan" (Matthew 16:21-23, Mark 8:31-33).
Furthermore, a messenger of Satan (2 Corinthians 12:7) stirred up trouble for the Apostle Paul everywhere that he went, and Paul said that it buffeted him. Paul also spoke of how Satan hindered him (1 Thessalonians 2:18), and he warned of our spiritual battle against principalities, powers, rulers of darkness, and spiritual wickedness in high or heavenly places and our need to don our spiritual armor (Ephesians 6:10-17). Of course, none of this would be necessary unless we will be under Satanic or demonic attack at times.
That said, we can always stand victoriously against such attacks because of what Jesus has done for us, and because of who we are, positionally, in him.
Ephesians 1:15-2:7
"Wherefore I also, after I heard of your faith in the Lord Jesus, and love unto all the saints, cease not to give thanks for you, making mention of you in my prayers; That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him: The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints, and what is the exceeding greatness of his power to usward who believe, according to the working of his mighty power, which he wrought in Christ, when he raised him from the dead, and set him at his own right hand in the heavenly places, far above all principality, and power, and might, and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this world, but also in that which is to come: And hath put all things under his feet, and gave him to be the head over all things to the church, which is his body, the fulness of him that filleth all in all. And you hath he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins; Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience: Among whom also we all had our conversation in times past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind; and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others. But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us, even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved) and hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus: That in the ages to come he might shew the exceeding riches of his grace in his kindness toward us through Christ Jesus."
When Jesus was raised from the dead, he ascended back to the Father in heaven, and he is now seated at the Father's right hand in a place of authority or as one who is far above all principality, and power, and might, and dominion, or far above all demonic forces. Not only this, but when you got saved, God similarly quickened you, or made you alive via the new birth, and, spiritually and positionally speaking, you are now seated in heavenly places in Christ Jesus. In other words, because of who you are in Christ, you are as far above all demonic forces as Jesus Christ is.
This is reality, and Satan does not want you to come to this understanding. In fact, Paul had to pray for the saints at Ephesus that God would give them the spirit of wisdom and revelation that they might understand the things that we just read.
With such being the case, I would strongly advise you to pray to God for this type of wisdom and revelation by his Spirit. Whether you are presently aware of it or not, as a Christian, you have authority over demonic forces in Jesus' name because his is the name above every name that is named. Not only in this world, but also in the world which is to come.
The next time a demonic spirit comes near you, command it to leave in Jesus Christ's name, and it will obey you because of who you are in Christ.
