Chuck and Nancy are showing no sign of blinking in the Mexican wall standoff.

According to the BBC there are a few ways the government shutdown will end.

President Donald Trump's standoff with Democrats over a border wall has dragged the US into the longest-ever government shutdown. Both sides appear to be dug in, so how might it end?

Mr Trump continues to call the border a national security crisis while Democrats say he is holding America hostage over an exaggerated threat.
As the nation waits for Washington to move forward, here are a few ways the situation could evolve.

The BBC's Anthony Zurcher also chips in with his thoughts and his probability rating.

This time around, however, the Democrats have shown hardly a crack in their resistance. Mr Schumer and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi have stood almost literally arm-in-arm in their opposition to Mr Trump's demands.

I wonder why, is it reality the immorality of a wall:unsure:

Said to my husband the other day - it's situations like this that cause civil wars.

It looks like there’s a large number of politicians aiming to discredit the Western world.

The President wants to build a wall, while he simultaneously is casting an ugly shadow of doubt about NATO.

Both scenarios are now weakening America. Who benefits from that? America? Europe? Australia and New Zealand?

No!

So who is?

Mexican wall standoff
seeing that he campaigned on Mexico paying for this thing, isn't he now demanding billions of dollars from the wrong government?
it's no wonder our congress is stonewalling him. it's like handing a bill to someone for something you said was going to be a gift.

well, when your entire campaign is a vitriolic 'us vs them' thing, and 'them' is literally your neighbors..
for about 10 years now the entire party-political landscape has been broadcasting the narrative that half of the country is the mortal enemy of the other half.

I think the Right wing christians in the US play a large role in the vitriol, and the non christians don't want the right wing "theocratic" ideology ruling over them.

The only solution is a partition like what happened in India with the Islamics forming Pakistan.

Christistan and Demia. They could come up with a free trade agreement Chrifta BigSmile.gif

Under President Obama's watch they both were very much for the wall. The truth is, they are both against whatever Trump proposes regardless of what it is because he is a Republican.

Exactly,
Interesting that they supported and talked about it, but never acted on it, do they benefit from the illegal immigrants somehow.

A lot of them have relatives in the states that are eligible to vote. It is a potential huge voting block. I don't believe most Democrats actually care about the concerns of illegal aliens but only as a means to stay in power and exercise power.

Mexico is paying for the wall through Trump's new trade agreements. The new Mexican president is a lot like Trump. Negotiations between us will have Mexico covering the wall.

The shutdown isn't really about the wall but getting the left to expose themselves completely as anti American. Then the trials will start. GITMO and the generals are ready and waiting.

Not too mention the move to hold out long enough to authorize a RIF. All those "non-essential" positions will qualify for furloughs. All the left-wing, Obama politicized agencies can now be gutted, or outright removed and transformed. EPA, IRS, DHS, USDA....

Ever wonder why those are the agencies that got shut down and not the others?

not really, these are the same people who actually supported a wall in 2013......

In 2013, all Senate Democrats and most House Democrats backed comprehensive immigration reform legislation, the so-called Gang of Eight bill. It included $46 billion for border security and around $8 billion to repair or reinforce barriers along the 700 miles of the border as required under the Secure Fence Act.

Do you really think the fact that Trump stated Mexico would pay is why the Dems are so entrenched, that does not really make sense.

Maybe the Dems thought it through and figure the wall is old tech,

Then it could be just tit for tat opposition to anything GOP, just like the GOP opposed just about everything Pres. Obama wanted to implement and what he did get done the GOP is just trashing as fast as it can.

And when people get hungry enough without pay and half are against half....civil war the hard way to make changes fighting against each other.
