Could it be the graphics card? Do you have another monitor you cuold temporarily hookup to your pc? (that would be a way to check for sure)
Sooooo.. my friends are planning on visiting a fort where we have to travel around using zip-lines. I haven't even seen a picture of zip-lines because I fear I may pass out. Does anybody have any tips for someone who has the fear of heights, spinning & adventure rides?

We have another monitor, but it can't be hooked up to our current tower. :-( We had our functioning one since 2006 and the screen on it has had problems for a while. The power button under the screen stays green even when shutting the tower off.
Sooooo.. my friends are planning on visiting a fort where we have to travel around using zip-lines. I haven't even seen a picture of zip-lines because I fear I may pass out. Does anybody have any tips for someone who has the fear of heights, spinning & adventure rides?
feign illness? If that fails, umm make yourself puke so they really do believe you are sick? JK. But a little screaming on an adventure ride is permissible.

I am not sure feigning illness will work. It's part of a trip and one of them is a very close friend. She would call me out.
Screaming? I wouldn't be screaming. I would be praying for my dear life. Actually, I have already started praying about that activity. (No kidding!) Are there any tips on how to 'survive' it.

Story time? Story time.
A few years back, when I was pregnant with my son, my favorite thing to do was to drive down to the river, park the car, and get out and walk a ways before stopping to sit on the bank. I'd take a book or a crossword puzzle, or sometimes nothing at all, and just sit and soak up the sun and worry about becoming a brand new mommy.
I started this as soon as we moved here in early fall, and kept it up straight into winter, when the river was partly frozen over and the sun no longer seemed to put out any heat.
It was one of these winter days when I came across the bull elk.
I was in my car; a battered and bruised silver Buick whose only real value at that point was that there was plenty of space between the seat and the wheel for my enormous pregnant belly to fit. I had been creeping down the slick dirt road at a snail's pace, terrified that I'd lose control and find myself in the ditch, and was nearly to the bridge when I saw him standing there-
Massive. Majestic. Blocking the entire bridge with his body.
I inched the car forward until I thought if I got any closer, he'd bolt....but he didn't even seem to notice I was there.
He was hurt; one of his antlers was hanging off his head, attached by a strip of flesh and hair, and the tip of it scraped on the ground as he turned his head slowly side to side.
I was completely fascinated by this wounded creature. I watched as puffs of steam escaped from his nostrils, as he occasionally shifted a leg, as he eventually began to turn around and notice my presence.
I was far too close, I realized then- the front bumper was a mere fifteen feet or so away from where he stood, and while I'm certainly no expert on scared, seriously irritated animals, it was pretty obvious he didn't like me being there.
It was both horrible and enthralling to watch him, beginning to stamp his feet, taking a step closer to my car, preparing to defend himself even injured as he was. I had so many things passing through my mind in those few more seconds I dared to remain there...
The poor thing.
Danger!
Should I call someone to come out and do something for him?
Would they just shoot him instead?
I wonder if he won or lost the battle?
Will I be able to eat the elk in the freezer after this?
I should go.
I put the car in reverse and began to back up slowly, not wanting to startle him. He was still on high alert, and I didn't want to see what would happen if push came to shove. As I moved backward, he followed for several feet, until the pain of dragging his antler made him stop- I saw him twisting his head around, not understanding what was happening, but obviously trying to make it stop.
I felt guilty, leaving him there, but I turned the car around on the ice and headed home.
I don't know what caused me to think of this experience tonight, but I haven't been able to get it out of my head. I don't know what happened to him; my husband had called animal control after I told him about it, but I don't know if they came out or not, and if they did, what could they have done? Would they have shot him? Tranquilized him and removed the antler and sent him on his merry way?
It's bothering me that I don't know if he lived or died, and it's bothering me that it doesn't actually matter either way.

CatHerder's day:
6:15 - alarm goes off
6:30 - back up alarm goes off. CatHerder gets up. Wakes up child, who wants to get up early to practice cello before school because she has a seating test in orchestra.
Coffee....oatmeal for breakfast....make lunches, play too long on CC and stupid facebook games while enjoying coffee. 7:00 - While making oatmeal, CatHerder sets the box on a greasy baking sheet, then supports the cylindrical box with his body while getting the box top off, rubbing the greasy box on his shirt in the process. It comes of okay with cold water. CatHerder decides that since his work will take him to a horse vet today, he will get dirty anyways and decides not to change.
8:00 - CatHerder and kidlet leave to take her to school. Should have left earlier because of rain. As we leave, neighbor lady who always seems to be yelling at her dog but isn't - she just has a big, booming, gruff voice and spoils that little mongrel to death, knocks on door and hands CatHerder a lemon cake. She evidently makes these for restaurants. She mentions how CatHerder is always going on about lemon cakes. CatHerder is pretty sure that he has never mentioned lemon cake to this woman ever, but graciously accepts the cake and makes plans to put this woman on his eggnog bread recipient list when he gets around to his holiday baking.
8:30 - On car ride to school, CatHerder receives his grade for the lunch (kind of a car ride tradition): B-. It would have easily been an A if there would have been a treat in the lunch. Kidlet says dad makes better sandwiches than mom because dad uses better cheese. CatHerder is beaming on the inside at this because he is petty.
8:45 - Drops of kidlet at school. No time to take her other books to mom's house before work. Tells kidlet that he will do so later. But much later, since he has a concert.
9:15 - Begins work day
10:30 - While at horse vet, receives a call. Recognizes the number, but picks up anyway. The blood donation people want CatHerder to donate again since apparently he has magic plasma which not only saves lives, but stops global warming, the chocolate shortage, and prevents large stray meteors from plummeting to Earth. CatHerder explains that he has several Nutcracker performances and other concerts until Christmas, but makes an appointment to give plasma the Saturday after Christmas. Besides, they have Fig Newtons.
3:00 - in office finishing a long overdue report. CatHerder finds out that the person who delayed the report due to having questionable data is getting fired. CatHerder had emailed the guy two weeks ago and also talked to him in person about it, trying to get him to fix things before the powers that be discovered he was slackin'. Guess he didn't care.
4:15 - left early to make the 6:00 call time for the concert. After three + years of drought, then 3-4 days of heavy rains, the drainage systems in town can't handle it and many streets (and some highways) are flooded. CatHerder fords to health food store for the healthy bread that taste like sawdust and some other healthy items that are, thankfully, tastier.
5:30 - still stuck in traffic. A canoe would be a better mode of travel with the flooded streets. Frustrated and bored, CatHerder checks messages to see if a friend had called back. Nope. But seeing the number from the blood people in the phone, CatHerder decides to amuse himself and stores the number, naming it "Vampires with Cookies!"
6:00 - arrive home. Should be at the performance venue at this time. Throws some leftover turkey in with some asparagus and pasta for dinner. Changes into tux. Checks CC briefly, makes a very short and hopefully witty post. Eats two bites of dinner. Rushes to concert.
6:30 - Still plenty of time before concert, but missed a few last minute rehearsal items. Though this isn't the ballet performance of Nutcracker that CatHerder has posted about before, this group is doing the suite, which is kind of excerpts from the ballet, a "best of," if you will. There is some dancing as well. This pre-concert rehearsal is the only time the orchestra and dancers would have together before the show.
7:30 - Concert. CatHerder nails Waltz of the Flowers in the suite, botches part of the intro to Fledermaus Overture, but otherwise, things went very well.
9:30 - takes books to kidlet
10:30 - home. Dinner (more than two bites this time). Some CC. Maybe catch up on a show. Relax.

I'm still evaluating my options. They are going to book the ride anyway, but I told them I wouldn't confirm until I am at the fort.

I actually did make eggnog once using a recipe that required cooking because the whole raw eggs things freaked me out.
