What region.
The way you say it, it's like you are judging people for being poor. Poor people don't choose to be poor. They'd much rather be rich. But circumstances often don't allow them to be.

Honestly, this irritates me the way you judge people.

Actually it would be strange, if I made fun of poor folks, seeing as how I'm a poor folk myself. Very strange indeed, it would be.

Does anyone here knit or crochet. I do/did, but it would take me too long now cos of other things I have to do. You have to find the right pattern, and learn the stitches. I knit cardigans and jumpers cos need warm clothes. The yarn has to be real wool though. I wouldn't knit acrylics. I don't like wearing plastic.

Ok I have a lot to say about clothing! I guess because its something I need to wear everyday, and I can't just walk around naked in my living room like Alanis Morrisette.

They look cool. My sister gave me one but she didn't make it herself, they sell them in the shops now.
I've knitted little pussy cats and crocheted hats, and tiny vest for my Garfield. An easy project is just squares, knit and purl and then join them together to make a blanket. You can do that with friends, kind of like making a quilt.

I've done cable type stitch but not the complicated ones that are all over. I think they look great and good for winter. But they would be expensive to buy, even the yarn.

Knitting forces you to concentrate sure but if you doing an easy pattern it can be automatic. When I drop stitches or miss them I just unravel and start again.

I wasn't sure which forum to post this but since I frequent the Singles the most I thought would ask here.

OK Jesus or was it Paul, said with food and clothing we ought to be content. I think it was when he was saying in good times and bad, he learned the secret to living in Christ. And I recall James writing about how someone with rich clothing ought not to judge someone wearing rags, and make them sit apart (back row please).

The past two years of recession etc meant I hadn't bought new clothes at all. I just kept wearing my old ones, until now when I finally decided I ought to buy new clothes - and it's a new year and I need them. Many got worn out and well, in all seasons you need appropriate clothes to keep cool or warm or dry. I had not bought any new ones, and for some strange reason gave away a lot of clothes to charity because I wasn't wearing them, they didn't fit or whatever. So I ended up having NO black clothing for funerals, and had to buy a black dress and black shoes cos I literally had nothing.

Anyway I have rediscoverd the joys and perils of going clothes shopping. What about you? Another thing is - who still dress up for church? And if you are female, do you find that you still end up wearing your best on Sundays and that may be a dress or skirt, because jeans or trousers are just not feminine enough? Some churches are very traditional or strict on the dress code?

What about your going out clothes? If you want to go on dates and look nice? What do you wear? or at weddings?
What do you wear at home? Do you wear male clothes if you are male and female clothes if you are female or do you go for unisex clothing? How about uniforms?
Do you treat people different because of the clothes they are wearing?

i dress casually for church & certain restaurants. the more gourmet a restaurant is, the more i dress up. its work clothes at home. also dress casually for outings such as last weekend which was a visit to the n.y. state museum at the plaza in albany then dinner at red lobster which was quite fine, i was surprised. we wore hand-me-downs when kids. don't sew. i used to car3e about fashion, not anymore.

I still have the suit I wore when I graduated from high school, and it is in good condition and still fits perfectly. However, I would only wear it to a wedding, a funeral, or another formal occasion where not wearing a suit would seem inappropriate.

When I go to church, I usually wear a collared shirt and, if it is cold, a nice sweater over it, together with a pair of chinos. In Finland, it is not as common to dress up formally for church.

I have always been a casual dresser and never been interested in the latest fashion trends . The only time I used to dress up or wear make up was in my teens and twenties when I used to go to bars , casinos and clubs with my girlfriend's or on dates . Now I don't go anywhere socially except weddings and funerals and I wear makeup so rarely that when I do it feels weird to me and my friends and family all comment on it ; " ooooo r u wearing mascara ? " Or " why r u wearing lipstick !? " , all this makes me extremely self conscious so I don't wear any again for months and months . I have make up older than my step daughters and they range from 26-32 years as for clothes , I only buy things I really really like so I never stop liking them do that means , I have some very old clothes and I wear them until I realise they r starting to look a bit shabby . I've always been the same , even when I was young slim and attractive , many many moons ago .

I went shopping for a hoodie.
Why are the women's so tight and cropped? Can't wear anything underneath them.
I managed to find one in blue my size that was long enough in the arms and torso. Only $25.

My sister wanted me to buy a quality one, Superdry brand costing $160. I could have bought 6 hoodies for the price one. Plus the super dry hoodie only fit (even then sleeves were a bit tooo long) if it was a Mens XS.


If taking the Bible literally, I would have been an abomination or something if I wore mens clothing. Or, did it mean, you just can't wear something already worn by a man if you are a woman? New doesn't count right? Or it that just things like underwear. Lord, I don't know anymore. Do you want me to look like a prostitute or a man? Cos those seem to be the only two options.

The other thing is...you can get chucked out of the supermarket if you wear your hoodie up in there.
Church I believe, has no such restrictions on hoodies.

Gang patches have been banned in my country. If you are caught wearing one, you need to pay a fine. But tattoos are fine.

These are such good points, Lanolin -- especially if anyone really is taking this part of Scripture literally.

I've been leaning more towards men's products myself. I think men's shaving cream is better quality and has a much better lather. I've been thinking of looking at men's hoodies and t-shirts for the looser fit as well.

I know women get a lot of flack for wearing immodest clothing, and I make no excuse for it, but really, the only options these days is, as you said, looking like "A Lady of the Night" -- or a potato sack.

That's all the fashion industry is offering.

I can understand padding your bra, but your shoulders? What burdens are we meant to carry on our shoulders that we needed shoulder pads???

I liked the florescent colours of the 80s though. Nowadays it's mandatory to wear those colours if you are on a construction site. In an office, not so. In church? I have no idea.

Aren't our bodies temples? Most of us are a work in progress.

I have an African church friend, as she's always got her Sunday Best outfit on in church, like pearls, heels, a hat, dress or skirt and blouse set, matching handbag all colour coordinated...and she looks great.
I try, but I don't always pull it off. Plus my feet just don't do heels. I can stand for maybe five minutes, and then have to take them off. Also I feel weird suddenly being a bit taller when I am in heels. Plus the clip-clop sound they make...

Back in the 80s when it was the fashion, I'd immediately cut the shoulder pads off my new tops as soon as I got them home from the mall. I'm not a linebacker!

I already have broad shoulders, I don't need to make them even broader. lol
They are good for carrying loads of heavy books, and shopping.

I can't wear strapless though. You need to have something there to hold it up, and I don't want accidental wardrobe malfunction.
Peplum...ha I don't think they were ever good. May as well wear a full skirt.

I wonder if bustles will come back...Could use some padding in that area, especially when sitting all day in a hard chair.

Hobble skirts were disastrous. This is why cheongsam have side splits. If you can't even walk while wearing something...what is the point?

I don't really dress up for Sunday.. maybe I am just a little bit more put together than normal.
I wear jeans (or in the summer linen trousers) and a nice shirt or a sweater, or a cardigan. I would like to were a nicer ones, a dress maybe, but I feel like then I would stand out.. Okay, there are few women who wear nice dresses, but I cannot seem to get myself to wear one to a regular Sunday service. Just a bit more festive ones it is a dress or straight black trousers and a nice shirt.

Jeans and a t-shirt most likely, in summer I can wear a summer dresses, or shorts and a tee.

Wedding?
For those I would put a nice dress.

Whatever I find, mostly sweatpants and a tee.

If I find a mens clothing to fit me, I'll wear it, it's only a clothing.. And for men they usually make them longer. Grr, mostly everything is too short in womens clothing! Thankfully nowadays there are jeans that you can choose the lenght. If only the dresses had the same option...

Those are clothes, so if I like it, I take it.

Only simple things, like longating sleeves for my coat.. of fixing some of my brothers clothes. I don' t make clothes.
For fashion, no. for something, it can be fashionable, or not, if I like it I wear it.

I went to a friends church on Thursday, and it was warm, so I just wore a bright pink maxi dress that was kind of tiered. It had straps that crossed at the back.
My friend wore a green top with puffed sleeves that had a ruffle on it, and a plain charcoal over the knee skirt. She wore a headscarf, and I thought maybe I should wear something over my hair and shoulders, but I didn't have anything, so I just borrowed her other scarf.

I can't remember what her husband wore, it would have been a shirt and pants lol

The only other female in the church (we went to a night service) wore a black maxi dress that was ruched in the bodice and a headscarf. She also had tattoos on her back.
I remember her husband was all in black as well plus wearing a moonboot as he'd injured his foot playing soccer.

The priest or Father as they call him, wore some sort of black embroidered robe, I think it's called a vestment.
The choristers or chanters wore white shirts and black dress pants.
