Sunday worship is it tradition from catholicism shouldnt it be the sabbath ? I ask this only to see your biblical scriptural opinions God bless

It isn't Catholicism, it's following God's word in the New Testament. And many scriptural examples have been given in this post already. It's sad that people still try to live so biblically and don't understand principles set down by the Lord.

John 4:
20 Our fathers worshipped in this mountain; and ye say, that in Jerusalem is the place where men ought to worship. (On the Sabbath) 21Jesus saith unto her, Woman, believe me, the hour cometh, when ye shall NEITHER in this mountain, NOR yet at Jerusalem, WORSHIP the Father. (On the Sabbath) 22Ye worship ye know not what: we know what we worship: for salvation is of the Jews. 23But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him. 24God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.

John 5:16 For this reason the Jews were persecuting Jesus, because He was doing these things on the Sabbath. 17But He answered them, "My Father is working until now, and I Myself am working."

So to sum it up, you may worship, rest and also work, together or separately, on any moment in your time, and anywhere, before the moment of your appointment.

I have no desire whatsoever for an argument.......sorry you got that impression......I simply do not have any idea what the word/name you typed in another language is/means.......I took it to be another name for God/I Am.......and was asking if there was a difference............sorry.......but when someone posts in another language (not English) here, if everyone here isn't fluent in that language, it seem to me it would be confusing........how can we be blessed with reading Scripture if there is no understanding of the language it's posted in?

Why on earth would I ever argue about the wonderful message/promise that John 3:16 holds for mankind?

Scripture is very clear, that God blesses the Sabbath and that is Saturday. God is very orderly and exact. Look at the tide tables, how God orders the tides. Even the dates of Christ's death, burial, and resurrection was on the same day the Lord gave feasts for them to honor prophesying them. Christ was crucified on Passover and rose on First Fruits. The HS was given on Succout.

Even though the Sabbath was part of the ten commandments, God told Paul to tell everyone that the day they chose to worship was not the important thing. If God's children would obey in spirit, they could choose the day, so devout Christians can keep Sunday worship.

But when we truly love the Lord and want to follow Him the very best we can, it seems such a small thing to do to honor all of what God says! We are to be able to give our lives for God, wouldn't you think that following God's small direction in this would be worthwhile? When Christ lived with us, Christ certainly would never go to synagogue on the day of the sun!

He certainly would and I'm sure He certainly did for as the Father works, even till now, so does the Son.

Sunday’s History

This study will briefly reveal the origin of Sunday observance as well as how and when it was adopted into the Christian church.

Funk and Wagnalls Encyclopedia, New Edition says this about Sabbath;

"observances followed on the Sabbath are derived from Biblical injunctions.
Jews and Christians alike are instructed to rest and to refrain from certain types of work.
Strictness of Sabbath observance among Jews and Christians was characteristic of early times and of the Middle Ages (q.v.); among the orthodox it continues today. Most Christian churches have transferred to the first day of the week many features of the Sabbath."

Funk and Wagnalls Encyclopedia, New Edition says this about Sunday;

"first day of the week, derived from the Roman holiday dies solis, meaning sun's day, and observed by most Christians as a holy day in honor of the resurrection of Christ.
The Roman emperor Constantine 1st made dies solis an official, legal holiday.
Since the 4th century, ecclesiastical and civil legislation have limited work on Sunday, and Christians have traditionally attended religious services."
_______
_______

As one can see, the encyclopedia plainly states it was the churches who "transferred" (changed) the worship to the first day.
It was never instructed by God, Christ, the disciples or any of the prophets.
It also states that Christians are instructed by the Bible to keep the Sabbath.

The origin of Sunday worship stems from the same place as most holidays, paganism.
The pagan's worshipped their sun-god on this day, known to them as the venerable day of the sun.
The encyclopedia even says Christians didn't worship on Sunday until the fourth century.
They continued to keep Sabbath until it was made a law.
Over a thousand years later, (plenty of time for Christians to get used to and accept Sunday worship), the reform movement began.

It was at this time,(1500's), that these new Protestant churches took Sunday worship with them, when their founders left the Catholic church.
The original command to keep the Sabbath was replaced by men deciding to honor a pagan worship day and justifying it with the fact that Christ was raised on the first day.

Christians were given baptism as a symbol of the resurrection, we were never instructed to invent other symbols or acknowledge any day on its behalf, (Acts 1:22, 1Pet. 3:21).
This is something "man" has chosen to do with no authority from God.
We are definitely not told to adopt heathen worship days and call them Christian.

Let us now look at what different denominations have revealed about Sunday worship.

Baptist: Sunday Sabbath not in the scriptures.

"There was and is a commandment to keep holy the Sabbath day, but that Sabbath day was not on Sunday...It will be said, however, and with some show of truimph, that the Sabbath was transferred from the seventh to the first day of the week....where can the record of such a transaction be found?
Not in the New Testament.
Of course, I quite well know that Sunday did come into use in early Christian history as a religious day, as we learn from the Christian Fathers and other sources.
But what a pity that it comes branded with the mark of paganism, and christened with the name of a sun god, when adopted and sanctioned by the papal apostasy, and bequeathed as a sacred legacy to Protestantism!"
Dr. Edward Hiscox, author of The Baptist Manual

"There was never any formal or authoritative change from the Jewish seventh day Sabbath to the Christian first day observance"
William Owen Carver, The Lord's Day in One Day p.49

Roman Catholic: No such law in the bible.

"Nowhere in the Bible do we find that Christ or the apostles ordered that the Sabbath be changed from Saturday to Sunday.
We have the commandment of God, given to Moses, to keep holy the Sabbath day, that is, the seventh day of the week, Saturday.
Today, most Christians keep Sunday because it has been revealed to us by the [Roman] church outside the Bible."
Catholic Virginian, Oct. 3, 1947

Question: "Have you not any other way of proving that the Church has power to institute festivals of precept?"
Answer: "Had she not such power, she could not have done that in which all modern religionists agree with her - she could not have substituted the observance of Sunday, the first day of the week, for the observance of Saturday, the seventh day, a change for which there is no Scriptural authority."
Stephen Keenan, A Doctrinal Catechism 3rd ed. p. 174

Some theologians have held that God likewise directly determined the Sunday as the day of worship in the NEW LAW, that he himself has explicitly substituted sunday for the Sabbath. But this theory is entirely abandoned.
It is now commonly held that God simply gave His church the power to set aside whatever day or days she would deem suitable as holy days.
The church chose Sunday, the first day of the week, and in the course of time added other days as holy days."
John Laux, A Course in Religion for Catholic High Schools and Academies 1936, vol. 1 p. 51

Anglican/Episcopal: The Catholics changed it.

"We have made the change from the seventh day to the first day, from Saturday to Sunday, on the authority of the one holy Catholic Church."
Bishop Seymour, Why We Keep Sunday

Lutheran: They err in teaching Sunday Sabbath.

But they err in teaching that Sunday has taken the place of the Old Testament Sabbath and therefore must be kept as the seventh day had to be kept by the children of Israel.....These churches err in their teaching, for scripture has in no way ordained the first day of the week in place of the Sabbath. There is simply no law in the New Testament to that effect"
John Theodore Mueller, Sabbath or Sunday, pp.15, 16

"We have seen how gradually the impression of the Jewish Sabbath faded from the mind

of the Christian church, and how completely the newer thought underlying the observance of the first day too possession of the church.
We have seen that the Christian of the first three centuries never confused one with the other, but for a time celebrated both."
The Sunday Problem, a study book by the Lutheran Church (1923) p.36

"They [Roman Catholics] refer to the Sabath Day, as having been changed into the L-rd's Day, contrary to the Decalogue, as it seems.
Neither is there any example whereof they make more than concerning the changing of the Sabbath Day. Great, say they, is the power of the Church, since it has dispensed with one of the Ten commandments!"
Augsburg Confession of Faith, art. 28;written by Melanchthon and approved by Martin Luther, 1530; as published in The Book of Concord of the Evangelical Lutheran Church Henry Jacobs, editor (1911), p.63

Presbyterian: Sunday kept the Gentiles happy.

"Sunday being the first day of which the Gentiles solemnly adored that planet and called it Sunday, partly from its influence on that day especially, and partly in respect to its divine body (as they conceived it) the Christians thought fit to keep the same day and the same name of it, that they might not appear carelessly peevish, and by that means hinder the conversion of the Gentiles, and bring a greater prejudice that might be otherwise taken against the gospel"
T.M. Morer, Dialogues on the Lord's Day

Moody Bible Institute: "Sabbath was before Sinai"
"The Sabbath was binding in Eden, and it has been in force ever since.
This Fourth Commandment begins with the word 'remember,' showing that the Sabbath had already existed when [Yahweh] wrote the law on the tables of stone at Sinai.
How can men claim that this one commandment has been done away with when they admit that the other nine are still binding?”
D.L. Moody, Weighed and Wanting, p.47

Methodist: God/Christ did not abolish the moral law.

The moral law contained in the Ten Commandments, and enforced by the prophets, He [God] did not take away.
It was not the design of His coming to revoke any part of this.
This is a law which can never be broken...Every part of this law must remain in force upon all mankind and in all ages; as not depending either on time or place, or any other circumstances liable to change, but on the nature of man, and their unchangeable relation to each other."
John Wesley, Sermons on Several Occasions, Vol.1, No. 25

The term Sunday came from the sun god that was worshipped on that day. The Roman empire was filled with Pagan's who worshipped there sun god on "dies solis", a Roman holiday. We received all the names of the days of the week from the planets.

English - "Planet"
Monday - Moon
Tuesday - Mars
Wednesday - Mercury
Thursday - Jupiter
Friday - Venus
Saturday - Saturn
Sunday - (Sun)

English has retained the original planets in the names for Saturday, Sunday, and Monday. For the four other days, however, the names of Anglo-Saxon or Nordic gods have replaced the Roman gods that gave name to the planets. Thus, Tuesday is named after Tiw, Wednesday is named after Woden, Thursday is named after Thor, and Friday is named after Freya.

Just curious as to what the exact difference is?

Quote: "The verse Deut 5:15 doesn't say "Yeshua" it says הוָה."

From the Complete Jewish Bible…

…Deut. 5:vs13) You have six days to labor and do all yourwork,
14 but the seventh day is a Shabbat for ADONAI your God. On it youare not to do any kind of work - not you, your son or your daughter, not yourmale or female slave, not your ox, your donkey or any of your other livestock, and not the foreigner staying with you inside the gates to your property - sothat your male and female servants can rest just as you do. 15 You are to remember that you were aslave in the land of Egypt, and ADONAI your God brought you out from there witha strong hand and an outstretched arm. Therefore ADONAI your God has orderedyou to keep the day of Shabbat.

From the KJV…

…Deut 5:vs13) Six daysthou shalt labour, and do all thy work:
14 .) But theseventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do anywork, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, nor thy manservant, nor thymaidservant, nor thine ox, nor thine ass, nor any of thy cattle, nor thystranger that is within thy gates; that thy manservant and thy maidservant mayrest as well as thou.
15 .) Andremember that thou wast a servant in the land of Egypt, and that the LORD thyGod brought thee out thence through a mighty hand and by a stretched out arm:therefore the LORD thy God commanded thee to keep the sabbath day.

Do not all of these refer to the Lord God, the Great I Am?

This is interesting, the first time I've looked at the CJB.

In the KJV, (almost always) the LORD is YHVH, the Lord is ˀAdonay, and God is ˀElohiym. The best translation for the Hebrew word ˀAdonay is Lord or Master. So the CJB copies the technique from the KJV, but uses ADONAI instead of the LORD.

If you want to translate the Bible correctly, you really can't mix those 3 words because all three appear together in the same verse sometimes.

Psalm 38:15
For in thee, O LORD, do I hope: thou wilt hear, O Lord my God. (KJV)

KJV with transliteration looks like this:

Psalm 38:15 For in thee, O YHVH, do I hope: thou wilt hear, O ˀAdonay my ˀElohiym.

The CJB gets around this by capitalizing ADONAI where it says YHVH. I think this would be fine except that ˀAdonay is already a word in the OT, so if you don't know a little bit of Hebrew it's somewhat misleading.

Psalm 38:16 (15)
For it is in you, ADONAI, that I hope. / You will answer, Adonai my God.

Yes all those terms refer to God, but if we mix them then it hides information about the word of God, which I think is unhelpful in Bible translation.

God has
many titles in the OT, my favorite is LORD of Hosts. :)

Ps 24:10 Who is this King of glory? The LORD of hosts, he [is] the King of glory. Selah. (KJV)

Ps 24:10 Who is this King of glory? YHVH Tsaboth , he [is] the King of glory. Selah.

Matt 2:23-28 The sabbath is a sacred and Divine institution; a privilege and benefit, not a task and drudgery. God never designed it to be a burden to us, therefore we must not make it so to ourselves. The sabbath was instituted for the good of mankind, as living in society, having many wants and troubles, preparing for a state of happiness or misery. Man was not made for the sabbath, as if his keeping it could be of service to God, nor was he commanded to keep it outward observances to his real hurt. Every observance respecting it, is to be interpreted by the rule of mercy.

Pulpit Commentary

Verse 28. - Therefore the Son of man is Lord also of the sabbath. "The sabbath was made for man." It is the inferior institution, man being the higher, for whose sake the sabbath was appointed. But the Son of man is Lord of all men, and of all things that pertain to man's salvation; therefore he must of necessity be Lord even of the sabbath; so that when he sees fit he can relax or dispense with its obligations. It is true that for us Christians the first day of the week, the Lord's day, has taken the place of the ancient Jewish sabbath; BUT THE PRINCIPLE HERE LAID DOWN BY OUR LORD is applicable to the "first" day no less than to the "seventh;" and it teaches us that our own moral and religious advancement and that of our brethren IS THE OBJECT which we should all aim at in the manner of our observance of the Christian Sunday; while we strive to "STAND FAST IN THE LIBERTY wherewith Christ has made us free."

The 7th day Sabbath is the mark of Yahweh, that is whay satan has worked very hard to get people to think the Sabbath is not for them.

If you think the Sabbath is only for the Hebrew people and/or gentiles were grafted in during the NT you are Scriptually wrong:

Isayah 56:1-7, "This is what Yahweh says: Keep the judgments, and do justly; for My salvation is near, soon, to come, and My righteousness to be revealed. Blessed is the man who does this, and the son of man who lays hold on it; who keeps the Sabbaths without polluting; defiling, them; and keeps his hand from doing dany evil. Do not let the son of the Gentile, who has joined himself to Yahweh, speak, saying; Yahweh has utterly separated me from His people. Nor let the eunuch say; Behold, I am a dry tree. For this is what Yahweh says: To the eunuchs who keep My Sabbaths, and choose those things which eplease Me, and hold fast to My covenant: I will give to them, in My House, even within My walls, a place and a Name equal to that of sons and of daughters; I will give them the Name of The Everlasting: YAHWEH; which will not be cut off. Also the sons of the Gentile who join themselves to Yahweh, to serve Him, and to love the Name of Yahweh, to be His servants--everyone who keeps the Sabbaths without polluting; defiling, them and who holds fast to My covenant--I will bring them to My holy mountain, and make them joyful in My House of prayer..."

The Sabbath is a specific day blessed/sanctified day made for man, on the Seventh Day of creation and is the Lord's Day not Sunday as your commentary indicates. Also it is not the Jewish Sabbath. As you just wrote "it was made for man" over 2300 yrs before any Jew existed.

Yes, man is higher than the Sabbath. For without man to observe it the blessing is non existent. One could say it is like a sword, deadly and strong. But without a hand to yield it it has no power.

Well, atleast we all know you are a Seventh Day Adventist.

Let me ask you a question. Please be honest, ok?

How many false prophecies does it take for Ellen G White to be declared a false prophetess?

I mean, if she prophesied one thing and it did not come to pass, then she would be a false prophet, right?

There is only one sabbath day.

The Sabbath day was kept by the Way, and they worshiped on the day after.

So Saturday was kept holy, Sunday they gathered together and worshiped in someone's house.

There is certainly no scripture for a first day Sabbath.

From Adam the Sabbath DAY was on the seventh day.

God made it a holy DAY.

Christ is A SABBATH which means rest, and he is OUR REST/sabbath, but He is NOT the Sabbath Day. He is not A DAY.

There were umpteen billion different Sabbath days, weeks, months, even years that the Jews kept track of. Those were called Sabbaths, but they were NOT a one of them, THE SABBATH DAY. However, some of them fell on a Sabbath Day, or covered over it. Example a Sabbath month could have as many as five Sabbath days in it. But the Sabbath day would not be considered whichever sabbath they were celebrating.

Trying to put labels on people and into some little box still I see. I don't read her writings so I wouldn't know what she said. Why is it so hard for you to use scripture to make a point instead of being so worried what church I may attend.

You a 53yr old Christian man insulting other Christians and refusing to have a mature reasonable conversation using scripture.

I hope the real Dan shows up and wants to sharpen swords in a civil manner instead of bashing other when you disagree.

Acts 20:7
And upon the first day of the week, when the disciples came together to break bread, Paul preached unto them, ready to depart on the morrow, and continued his speech until midnight.

Let’s remember, in the Bible, a day begins after the sun goes down. This means, the first day has two parts….the first part is the evening, or what we call Saturday night. The second part is the daytime, or what we now call Sunday day.

Considering the author begins this story by identifying the day in question as; “the first day of the week”, there is no reason to assume that this event continues until the middle of the night of a different day. Therefore, the breaking bread and preaching occurred on the evening part of the first day, this would mean this event began sometime shortly after the Sabbath’s sundown, and ended at sunup on the first day, (Acts 20:11).

Would Paul have walked nineteen miles from Traos to Assos on the morning of the first day if it had been the new traditional worship day? Would he have also sent the rest of the disciples by boat while he walked? Their behavior during the daytime part of the first day shows no evidence of new honored day or a new worship day.

It should also be noted that while Paul was preaching, and breaking bread on the evening of the first day, his traveling companions were not resting or holding a religious meeting. Instead, they embarked on a 50-60 mile sailing trip to the city of Assos.

If one reads Acts 20 through to v.6, one can see, that the author Luke, referred to “them” and
“they”, when he was not present. He likewise referred to “we” and “us”, when he was present. Therefore, Luke and the group he sailed with were not part of the gathering the night before, because during the entire telling of the story he refers to those present as, “the disciples”, “they” and “them”, (v.7, 8). Then in next portion of Luke’s narrative, he clearly includes himself, (“we” and “us”), as part of the group that left by boat ahead of Paul, (Acts 20:13-14).

It could be argued that Luke and his group did not attend that meeting and stay up all night, because they may have gone to private quarters and slept. In other words, they may have simply left the next morning as Paul did. However, Luke and his co-travelers story picks up in v.13, from precisely where it left off in v.6. Thus accounting for Luke’s third person narrative in v.7-12, and strongly implying that their trip had indeed began the night before while Paul was preaching.

Now, on to the claims that the breaking of bread and preaching proves a communion service was held. Interestingly, communion was given as a memorial to the death of Jesus, (1Cor. 11:24-26). Jesus told his disciples, “I will not anymore eat thereof until it be fulfilled in the Kingdom of God”, (Luke 22:16). Yet, on the day he was resurrected he is walking with two disciples, and later “as He sat at meat with them, He took bread and blessed it, and broke and gave it to them”, (Luke 24:30). Again, in Mat. 14:19 we see that Christ broke bread to feed the multitudes.

It tells us in Acts 2:46 that they went to the temple and broke bread from house to house "daily", and it also shows Paul breaking bread for a meal with unconverted sailors that he was shipwrecked with, (Acts 27:35). Yet, in these other accounts of breaking bread, there is no mention of communion or any significance given to the day which it occurred. Therefore, "breaking bread" was simply a term of eating and fellowship and was never exclusively associated with communion, or a specific day.

The final conviction that some have with this passage is that Paul was preaching on this day. There are dozens of instances of the gospel being taught and preached on non-specific days as well as daily. One example is in Mark 2:1-2 another is Luke 19:47-20:1 where it clearly indicates that Christ himself taught and preached daily. Clearly this does not support the idea that this preaching proves anything, about the first day.

The likely scenario is, that Paul and his disciples had remained together until the Sabbath ended. Luke and his fellow travelers boarded a boat so they could meet Paul, the next day, in Assos. Meanwhile, Paul stayed with the locals and they met for a meal in which he spoke to them until sun-up. He then journeyed on foot to Assos and met Luke and the others there.

I did mean it in a non-personal way.

You are the one claiming the gulf between Hell and Abraham's bosom is not literal. You took the story of Lazarus and turned it into allegory. Which is contrary to the teachings of every denomination I have ever stepped into. It's contrary to the teachings of the church fathers. It is a new teaching that started in the mid 1800's. In fact there was an explosion in false teachings during that time which now seems to be continuing in you.

I can only hope and pray that the scales fall from your eyes and the Holy Spirit gives you truth.

God rested on the last day of the creation account and blessed it, why? because He had created all he planed to do and rested from creating more, thus He rested. Are are still the this creation day, God is still resting, but will once again create a renewed heavens and earth when He comes again. This will be the 8th day of creation and the final day in with will last for eternity. Man was not mandated to rest on this day in the Genesis account of creation, only God rested and bless His creation.

The mandate of 7th day rest was instituted by God for the Israelites, for rest and worship, when God wrote the 10 commandments. I believe this points to Christ in that in Christ we receive our true rest, read Hebrews 4. Thus, if you are in Christ, you are resting and keeping the sabbath, on every day, not just one day. Thus the 7th day Jewish sabbath was a type and shadow of rest we have in Christ Colossians 2:16-17. However, I think it a good pattern to follow by taking off 1 day to rest your body, but not necessarily a requirement (crap happens you know, and Jesus explained that-Luke 14:5 )

Jesus meant the sabbath to be a blessing for man, but some men has turned into a curse for other men. Jesus is Lord over the sabbath. Christ righteous has been imputed to me (Philippians 3:9, 2 Corinthians 5:21, Galatians 2:6, Romans 4:3, 5:17 and much much more...). Then in Christ I am righteous, and this I believe makes me Lord over the sabbath as well, the key prase, "IN CHRIST", Matthew 12.

There are several biblical accounts shown where early apostles and disciples gathered on the 1st day of the week to fellowship, already list in previous posts. There are several biblical accounts of Paul going into synagogues to convert Jews to Christ, to preach to them, I can't think of a better place to do that!, can you?, they were already gathered in one place.

Sunday is the day I worship because the resurrection of Christ is pivotal point of our Christian faith, it hinges on it. Without the resurrection our faith is vain - 1 Corinthians 15:14, Second, I am seen to the Father, in Christ, as already in the kingdom of God, I am a citizen of Heaven (Ephesians 1:3, 2:6, Colossians 2:12). In the new heaven and earth there is neither day (sun) nor night (moon), Christ is our light(Revelation 21:23)..

Last, we are not to make this an issue, as to the day, Romans 14.

Thank you and God bless.

Well this every denomination thing you say I have not been able to confirm. Have you ever been to a big city library? If you get a chance please go and find books that list and describe parables. Even in a mid sized city you should be able to find a few published scholars there. I have never been in a library that had a book on parables that didn't include the rich man and lazarus. Not a single one.

The reason being is that every person who makes it their job to learn all about parables all come to the same conclusion. It is indeed a parable. We are talking about people from every denomination and time period that has done the research all convinced of the same thing. It is not uncommon at all to find a church that claims it is literal. But published scholars.

Even online commentaries most cases there it is, all walks of life and faiths the majority always have it listed. Even ole wiki has it listed. The must all be in a cult.

If you had read the study you may have noticed, that Christ never talked to the pharisees except in parable. That is right there in the Bible. Even the Bible disagrees with you. I didn't write the Bible and I am pretty sure the author was not in a cult.

Please in the future please take the time to read my whole study before you start calling names. the answer on the issue whether it is a parable was there the entire time.

Like I mentioned earlier, it does not matter if you call it a story or a parable. The fact remains that it is about two people who die and then after death go to a place called Sheol in Hebrew and Hades in Greek. The rich man goes to a place of shear torment while Lazarus goes to a place of rest and comfort.

Nothing suggest this is allegory as you claim to fit in with SDA theology. You claim, "Ew look, a great gulf? This means it is something we can not cross, cross means Jesus so this is about our sins being forgiven and the price of tea in China." You are the one who is knitting this to other unrelated concepts and declaring victory.

I hope you see the truth someday, but for now you won't accept anything that doesn't agree with you. Only the Holy Spirit can show you the truth.
