On that same train of thought, consider the following: why are we ok with ear piercings? And how many is too many? Why not other body parts? Is it wrong if no one else can see them, thus removing the "stumbling block" aspect? What about people who are already tattooed? Like redtent said, then why is make up okay? It's a mark on the skin, just not usually permanent. Where do we draw the line?

The above illustrates what happens when we are caught up in legalism. The biblical principle us to glorify God in your body. The application of that principle will vary based upon each persons walk with God, their culture, and many other influences.

So modern day tattoos are NOT MARKING YOURSELF? I wonder if Jesus would have taken a TATTOO... No! Then why would you? Why would you have INK in a PERFECT skin God made... Hey the new testiment says you ladies should not even wear jewelary, or braid your hair... And it is in Timothy for the WHOLE world....

How can you first go and question repenting from a tattoo as though it were impossible, likening it to the mark of the beast, THEN go and double speak saying, "not that a tattoo is permanent sin"? Just WHAT are you trying to say? This kind of cryptic double speak sends my Alarm bells ringing and this is my first time on this website!

Don't ever go get blood tests done Cobus. God forbid! And don't ever get a transfusion if you find yourself dying and in need of blood. No organ transplants for you either! Don't ever scrape your knee or get a nose bleed. We wouldn't want you to lose your soul.

For all who are reading...This is what you get when someone puts their own spin on the bible. Let me break down his points for you to see.

1.) Tattoos are like the mark of the Beast.
2.) Implies one cannot repent of a tattoo.
3.) Losing blood loses the soul.

Now I will answer the question. "Should Christians get tattoos?"

Answer: Ye shall not make any cuttings in your flesh for the dead, nor print any marks upon you: I am the LORD. Leviticus 19:28

One should also understand the context of this passage. These were Old Covenant Levitical laws given to the Jews. If you want to take them as currently binding then......

"Ye shall not eat any thing with the blood: neither shall ye use enchantment, nor observe times. Ye shall not round the corners of your heads, neither shalt thou mar the corners of thy beard." Leviticus 19:26-28

And while your at it get circumcised and make burnt offerings wear tzitzits and keep the Sabbath!

Now I hope I have not offended anyone weak in spirit or faith here. To fully answer the question "should Christians get tattoos." I'd encourage you to look to the New Covenant which we are now under. Which came into effect once Jesus had died on the cross and fulfilled the law. Look into what this means and how to apply it in light of the Entire law of Moses being "DONE AWAY WITH." Yep I said it and I'm VERY well equipped to defend it.

Before anyone puts words into my mouth and say I'm an advocate for tattoos, I personally wouldn't do it. But do see what the New Covenant says regarding matters such as this.

Suge I say what I say.... Like the mark of the beast, you will carry a tattoo for a very long time, I know they are VERY hard to remove. So it is a pretty permanent thin you take on. Maybe that will help with the discision for a youngster to remember BEFORE he says yes to a tattoo... and It will DEFENATELY help with the discision when 666 is presented....

Some people that looks like comic books can OBVIOUSLY repent from ALL their sins... they will get NEW UNTATTOOED BODIES FOR THEIR REWARD.... HOW GREAT IS OUR GOD,,,, WOW! So if HE gives you a untattooed Body to live with him, why colour this one in with ink?

So your three points... I imply NOTHING... All I am sayong is: a tattoo is pretty permanent. And so is the 666 to trade, my suggestion do not get tattooed, and my VERY strong suggestion is.... Specially with the one 666 that you will need for trading... It is NOT excluded that it might be a tattoo. That is why I leave the possibility open that the mark might be tattoed on.

Where in the Bible does it say one CANNOT repent from a tattoo.. so you miss the pot on that one as welll. I will not say something that is not in the Bible. I did once, a few hours ago and I suppose that gun will be held against my head forever. Vain talk. This is NO VAIN talk... Do not get tattoed, specially if it means 666, or anything Satanic... Some tattoos really say some AWEFULL stuff... That was what I meant...

God said nothing that goes into your mouth makes you impure, but what goes out... Imagine having a tattoo that says.... Satan is my LORD! WOW! how hard and how deep will that man hurt when he knows JESUS is the one that loves him... I bet that tattooed man will give a powerful witness to how the LORD SAVED HIM... Losin blood is losing the soul... When Caind mudered his brother God said .... The voice of thy brothers blood cryeth unto me... that was the verse that I remembered of spilling blood unnessacary... So DO NOT SPILL BLOOD, not even by getting tattoed.

As a former messianic I know and understand why you believe what you believe. I'd encourage you to read the gospel however. Learn to distinguish between the Old and New covenants. I also know that no amount of scriptural proof will convince you of anything. I put up walls when I was a messianic, as not to allow anyone to take me off what I considered to be the straight and narrow. This post isn't necessarily for you, but to cause those who are being drawn in your direction to really study this out first. I believe it to be very dangerous.

1.) Jesus came as a JEW and taught to the JEWS. He himself was UNDER THE LAW and had to FULFILL the law perfectly.

2.) Jesus could not teach contrary to the law while he was yet alive. For him to do so would have been sin.

3.) The new testament did not come into effect until Jesus death on the cross. Heb 9:16-18 (read further than that for more context.)

4.) New covenant was made not according to the old. Jer 31:31, Heb 8-10 (Read ALL of Hebrews.)

5.) Law of Moses "done away with", "nailed to cross," "old and ready to wax away." Acts 15:5, 15:24, Col 2:14, Heb 8:13, 2 cor, 3:11 (so many more...Just Read the entire N.T.)

Now often what I see Messianics/Adventists etc. do is categorize Gods law into 3 parts. Ceremonial, Mosaic, and Moral laws. This conveniently gives them the ability to do away with PARTS of the law, while keeping others. I would ask them to provide me with an example out of the O.T. where God separates his laws into categories outside of the body of the law of Moses. Gods law is one law and we can prove this with scripture.

(Heb 8:13) In that he saith, A new covenant, he hath made the FIRST old. Now that which decayeth and waxeth old is ready to vanish away.

So what is this first covenant described by the book of Hebrews as "decaying", "waxing old" and "ready to vanish away"?

(Heb 9:18) Whereupon neither the first testament was dedicated without blood.
(Heb 9:19) For when Moses had spoken every precept to all the people according to the law, he took the blood of calves and of goats, with water, and scarlet wool, and hyssop, and sprinkled both the book, and all the people,
(Heb 9:20) Saying, This is the blood of the testament which God hath enjoined unto you.

Hebrews 9:20 is making reference to Exodus 24:8 which is the confirming of the FIRST Covenant, otherwise known as the "Law of Moses." So what makes up the law of Moses? Just go back to Exodus 20 and read from there all the way up to Exodus 24:9

As you can see. It lumps so called Moral, Mosaic, and Ceremonial laws all together and in no particular order all throughout those chapters, as ALL being part of the First Covenant. Which according to the gospel is now decaying, waxing old and ready to vanish away. The new covenant being made "NOT ACCORDING TO" the old. etc. etc. etc.

Another popular verse among messianic and Adventist groups is.... "For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled."

They often seem to miss the gravity of the word "till" in "till all be fulfilled." Jesus fulfilled the law by living a perfect life according to the law. He died on the cross thus putting into effect the New Covenant. The gospel is SO clear on issues concerning the Old vs New covenants it still amazing me how I fell into that snare and how others continue to fall into it as well. It is often easier to be legalistic than it is to understand things like walking in the spirit, grace, "not I that sin but sin that is in me." "dead to sin." and what it means to NOT BE UNDER THE LAW etc.

Usually after this they begin to ask biased questions such as; "Does that mean thou shalt not kill has no application anymore?" Or "Is it now ok to commit adultery?"

Paul actually answers you in (Rom 6:15)

"What then? shall we sin, because we are not under the law, but under grace? God forbid."

I would encourage you to read all of Romans for the full context.

So how is it we can apply the new covenant vs the old?
(Gal 5:22) But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,
(Gal 5:23) Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.

Messianics spend a lot of time rediscovering their Hebrew roots. This usually puts them deep into the pages of the O.T. It is easy to read the O.T. in the present tense in which much of it is written. But let's not forget that we have the gospel of Jesus Christ. The New Covenant made not according to the old. Learn how to deal with that rather than not understanding it and going back under the law.


(Jas 2:8) If ye fulfil the royal law according to the scripture, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself, ye do well:
(Jas 2:9) But if ye have respect to persons, ye commit sin, and are convinced of the law as transgressors.
(Jas 2:10) For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all.

Salvation is a personal relationship between a man and God............personal, not open to judgment by other men.......personal, between them and God......God said "This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, saith the Lord, I will put my laws into their hearts, and in their minds will I write them;"

God has tattooed our minds with His Law.......

The words of a person is the person... people show with words what is important for them.... I see that what people say, they live... If they talk fleshly stuff, they live fleshly. If they talk JESUS they live JESUS!

Some say things they do not believe, then that also becomes very evident soon. Many say GOD IS GOOD, but they actually show how GOOD their BANK ACCOUNT IS... When they say GOD IS GOOD, look at them.... like the rich man said to Jesus .... GOOD MASTER.... He did NOT mean God is Good, that is why Jesus repremanded him immediately...
