So I called them and, after speaking with the building official for a few minutes, I had another call coming in on my cellphone, I thought that was odd. When I hung up with the building official and called them back they said "we just wanted to know where to mail the refund check". Apparently they knew they were about to catch some trouble. I got a partial refund for my "$96000 pole barn" permit. This isn't the only incident. When I had another building built they did the same thing and when called out on it, gave almost half of it back. It seems tax collectors, if given the chance to steal, are still as corrupt as old Zacchaeus.
