8 And Zacchaeus stood, and said unto the Lord: Behold, Lord, the half of my goods I give to the poor; and if I have taken any thing from any man by false accusation, I restore him fourfold.
I needed to build a pole barn. The building department asked on their questionnaire how much the building cost. It was $11000. But when they issued the permit, they put the value down as $96000. So I called them and, after speaking with the building official for a few minutes, I had another call coming in on my cellphone, I thought that was odd. When I hung up with the building official and called them back they said "we just wanted to know where to mail the refund check". Apparently they knew they were about to catch some trouble. I got a partial refund for my "$96000 pole barn" permit. This isn't the only incident. When I had another building built they did the same thing and when called out on it, gave almost half of it back. It seems tax collectors, if given the chance to steal, are still as corrupt as old Zacchaeus.
