They already tax money a dozen different ways. When they add GST in the USA it won't replace another tax, it'll just be a new tax added on to the rest.
Because I live in Auckland, the rates here are dearer than anywhere else in NZ, and we have more road taxes, like there's a congestion tax, and I there's hardly any free parking in town.

Some taxes do get taken away, like there used to be one for owning a tv, but now everything is free to air on nz channels unless you want to pay for satellite tv.

The rich know how to avoid tax legally. They can afford accountants who know how to work the system. There are exceptions. Elon Musk paid $10 billion in taxes one year, even though who does not take a salary from Tesla and did not get paid for his stint with Mr Trump's regime. There are other billionaires who could follow his example.

Jesus told us to pay taxes. I used to try and minimise my tax by inflating my legitimate expenses. Wrong. I was convicted and stopped doing it. If we honour God by doing things His way, we will be blessed.
Wasn't it the owner of Barbie tried to do that and she got sentenced to prison?
Not sure if she went or just paid the fine.
But she wasn't allowed to own her own company after that.

Cheating on your taxes is probably the number one white collar crime.

Its like bruh, don't do that. Just because you have a cushy job, doesn't give you the right to not fund what will help the country. via taxes. Or whatever should be free for anyone who lives in it, or for some reason or other, can't work (too young, old, or disabled) or find a nice job like yours.

You know stuff like hospitals, schools, good roads, clean air and water, parks and libraries.

I don't cheat on taxes, but I endeavor to not pay a single cent more than necessary. The govmint takes way to much from folks and then spend it so, so poorly.
I think one of the great offenses they perpetrate tax wise is in taxing Social Security.

It should not be allowed. Social Security is derived in tax payer accounts through the FICA tax when employed. It was taken as a tax first.

And then they tax the tax.

The rich get richer. The poor help make that so.

There is a difference between tax minimisation, which is legal, and avoidance which is not. Some schemes take advantage of loopholes in the laws. I don't know about Barbie. I do know that a former PM of Australia has assets in offshore accounts where he pays little or no tax. He was in business before entering politics. It's legal. Is it ethical? That I can't say.

100% agree.

it is wrong to " double tax" anything...

I'm seriously looking into seeing if I can file paperwork so to identify myself as a tax exempt religious entity.
501c3.

Autodeism! God self. Self God. When indwelt by Holy Spirit God,and after the Supreme Court long ago ruled in Detmer v.Landon , a person's religion is whatever they say it is,that leads them to live their life by its tenets, paraphrasing there, why not?

Paycheck is a gift to the (me) church.
Tax exempt. My home and property belong to the church.Me. Tax exempt.

If it worked,I'd send letters to Musk,Trump, Bezos, and others asking if they'd like to donate so to have a tax write off.✍️ 🤣

Worth it!

Um ok

Some things can only happen in America. Eg church of Scientology. I am pretty sure that one is just made up.

You can look it up what the Barbie company (Mattel) did. They over inflated their profits and hid their losses by falsifying their reports.

In the Barbie movie it was claimed they had tax evasion issues but that was just a joke apparently.

At least the worker's portion is taxed as income when they also tax it as SS. I agree, it is a great offense to tax social security. Also, The elderly who scrimped and saved can end up in a much higher than average tax bracket due to their saving all of their lives, while those who did not plan for their last years tend to have little or no tax liability. Unearned income for seniors should be taxed in a low tax bracket if it is taxed at all.

Just heard in news today Auckland may have congestion charges to go into the city.

But I won't be paying cos I don't need to go into the city if I don't have to. Nothing there to do or see anyway that I haven't already done. Eg work, study, shopping

Its because we can't afford 'world class' public transport system. Debt is going to be on the grandchildren to pay, if we have any. Maybe the volcanoes will all blow up by then

I'm such a doom and gloomer.

Further insult arrives when the elderly on SS can't make ends meet on that pitance,so they get a job. If they work more hours than allowed, they lose money from that SS payment. And,when they're employed FICA is deducted again.

grrr

No wonder Jesus had a dim view of tax collectors. But at least the one he did encounter changed and paid everyone back what he stole/kept for himself. An honest tax collector!

The FICA tax was applied through a referendum vote by the people.

I'm told it was sold to voters,a patent lie, that the FICA monies withheld would accrue in a private savings account, with interest. So that after working for many years, the final balance at retirement would be huge. And,we would receive a portion of that money every month. Which is why they labeled it as providing us social security.

They lied!

On top of that, being it is our money,if married.and your spouse dies, you don't inherit their SS. In fact you only get a hundred and some dollars as a burial allowance.

Our government is corrupt to its marrow.

Income tax and property tax are the shackles of indentured servitude.

It's evil.
