Parents, what do you tell your children when they ask 'how was I made'? Or 'where do babies come from'?

Do you remember what YOUR parents told you? Or did you find out for yourself? How old were you when you were told 'the facts of life'?

I am reminded of one Star Trek the next generation episode that featured two different colonies. One colony was of Irish descent, with all the stereotypes inherent. The other was a colony of clones. Only clones. They had been cloning themselves for hundreds of years. the Irish colonies had to be moved off planet because of a natural disaster, and the clones had reached the end of their genetic cloning lifespan. The more they made clones, the more ragged the copy of the copy of the copy of the copy of the genetic structure became. So they needed each other's help.

One of the clones asked one of the Irish how natural procreation even worked. The Irishman replied, "well, generally you put a girl and a guy together, and let them figure it out."

I just went back and checked, thanks to youtube. It has been decades since I saw that show, and I got it slightly wrong. I got the general gist though.

You answered my post that was about parents. So maybe I jumped to the conclusion that you were actually in a roundabout way trying to answer my question and not making a smart--- comment. I was humouring you.
 
Unless...your dad was Spock? Your parents were on the TV? TV was your nanny/babysitter?

Which one was it??

Ma'am, you are weird...

I was replying to the question "where do babies come from?" In a star trek episode one character says, "Ah, well, um, you put the young couple together... and you let nature take its course."

I'm not a parent, but coincidentally had two parents, so I can speak from the perspective of a child.

My Dad took us on drives each week. On the way back he stopped at Exxon to fill up the tank. They had a promotion and gave away a pair of animals (male and female) each week. I knew from that and the Bible reading from Mom in Sunday School class that they reproduce after their own kind. There had to be a mother and a father for the chicks to hatch.
I really enjoyed animals and dinosaurs. Genesis 6-9 was my favorite Bible passage. I remember Mom taught us about that too!
After so many tankfuls Dad bought the Ark. Those were the blessings that planted seeds of God's Word for ministry.

We had a beautiful bird sanctuary and occasionally found empty eggs., injured birds and animals.
We were Bird and Wildlife Rehabilitators.

As for bees, I played in the yard in bare feet. That was back when there were lots of Honey Bees that liked the flowers and Dandelions. What I learned about them was from Mom.
She knew more about them than the ER Drs at the hospital.
Every time I stepped on one, she would properly remove the stinger, kiss it: Then she applied a paste of water and sodium bicarbonate/baking soda.
That always made it better.

Yup, there were plenty of birds and bees to learn from.

Yea we had cats (who chased the birds) and bees weren't too obvious then as a child for fear of being stung. So I learned from the cats, as the next door neighbours cat kept getting pregnant. She had a lot of tomcats boyfriends.

I knew something similar happened with humans but they liked to mate in bed under the covers. Also on tv they sort of hinted at it. My parents never really said much, maybe they thought we (me and my siblings) were smart and could figure it out.

Why star trek. Did you not have parents?
 
Also when my aunties got married, we figured out later what happened when they got pregnant. I don't know how some parents can tell their children that babies come from a cabbage patch or stork or some such nonsense.

My mother was a nurse. She told us, based on our ages, what we needed to know. She progressed with our ages and by the time I was in sex ed I already knew what was being taught thanks to my Mother. Her mother didn't tell her anything, she didn't want that happening to us. And I'm thankful for that.

Did you just post on here to derail the thread? Its ok but its kinda weird you got your sex ed from Star Trek. How old were you when you found out from Star Trek?
Did your parents ask you to watch it as part of your sex ed, or you just found out yourself?
Or are you evading the question? again.
