However you feel about this, one thing is certain: There were no unbaptized Christians in the early church. No unbaptized Christians in the Bible.

Also did you notice how enthusiastic they all were about being baptized? They all had a good attitude going into to it and did it as soon as they could! I bet you the thief on the cross would have gotten baptized too if he had the opportunity.

Also Jesus Himself didn't have to be baptized but He did it anyway. And it must have meant so much for God the Father and the Holy Spirit for them to show up at His baptism!

Salvation issue aside, if it meant a lot to God for Jesus to be baptized, we should do it too.

The thief on the cross was forgiven and saved by the Lord while Jesus was yet alive, meaning it was done under the old testament; baptism wasn't needed or required for salvation until the death of Christ when the NT came into effect. Read Hebrews 9:15-17

I was talking about the enthusiasm to be baptized, not about whether baptism was required or not for salvation.

The Bible shows that people were very eager to get baptized whether it was before or after Jesus died.

I think people complicate it now and kill all the enthusiasm to do it with all these debates.

Water baptism is not a symbol but the moment of the remission of sins.

False religion turns the commands of God into options and suggestions.
False religion cannot distinguish between commands that result in salvation and commands that come after salvation. (Acts 10:43-47)

I understand but just thought I'd mention it since a lot of people have a misunderstanding of the thief on the cross issue and even use their misunderstanding in support of their flawed doctrines.

I was enthusiastic to be baptized as well, not because of it being an optional "symbol" but being the moment of the remission of sins!

He may have been baptized.

Jesus and His disciples were water baptizing for the remission of sins for years before His death.

John the Baptist was doing the same.

Yes, according to Acts 2:38.

If you are referring to the household of Cornelius, no.

You are making a rather large assumption if you are comparing what happened in Acts 2:38 to Acts 10:44-46 as the same.

You are simply trying to find a loophole in order to negate the clear prescriptive command of Peter to the descriptive recording of the event in the home of Cornelius.

Acts 10:44-46 does not negate Acts 2:38.

Nice try but this is not my first rodeo.
No, I am not.

If the thief was baptized, wouldn't that mean that he stopped stealing stuff and wouldn't be hanging on his cross next to Jesus?

You divert from the point. The point being, "Scripture reveals that Jesus is the one crucified to save man's soul. And being buried with Jesus in the likeness of His death upon obedience to baptism in His name is when one's personal sin is washed away. (Acts 22:19, Rom. 6:3-6, Col. 2:8-12)"

Water baptism doesn't in and of itself save, but all must be water baptized in the name of Jesus in order to be saved. Scripture further attests that everything we do in word and deed is to be done, NOT in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Ghost BUT, in the name that is above all names; the name of Jesus!

Try having prayers answered by making the petition in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Ghost.
Try casting out demons saying I do so in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Ghost.
Try praying for healing saying I do so in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Ghost.

Consider what the word reveals concerning the power imparted upon evoking the name of Jesus:
Jesus said, "And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it." John 14:13-14
Jesus said, "In that day you will no longer ask me anything. Very truly I tell you, my Father will give you whatever you ask in my name. Until now you have not asked for anything in my name. ASK AND YOU WILL RECEIVE, and your joy will be complete." John 16:23-24

Jesus said, "And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues;" Mark 16:17
"And the seventy returned again with joy, saying, Lord, even the devils are subject unto us through thy name." Luke 10:7

"Then Peter said, Silver and gold have I none; but such as I have give I thee: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth rise up and walk." Acts 3:6 6
"And his name through faith in his name hath made this man strong, whom ye see and know: yea, the faith which is by him hath given him this perfect soundness in the presence of you all." Acts 3:16

As Jesus said all authority has been given unto HIM go therefore and baptize IN THE NAME of the Father, Son and Holy Ghost. What's the NAME? The answer is crystal clear... Acts 2:4-41, 8:12-18, 10:43-48, 19:1-7, 22:16

No, I did not.

Nothing but the Blood of Jesus!

If water baptism washed away sins, then Jesus did not need to shed his blood, which is a requirement BY GOD for sin.

You're unbiblical.

Ephesians 1:1-7
Greeting
1 Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of God,
To the saints who are in Ephesus, and faithful in Christ Jesus:
2 Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
Redemption in Christ
3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ,
4 just as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before Him in love,
5 having predestined us to adoption as sons by Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the good pleasure of His will,
6 to the praise of the glory of His grace, by which He made us accepted in the Beloved.
7 In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace

Hebrews 9:12-15
12 Not with the blood of goats and calves, but with His own blood He entered the Most Holy Place once for all, having obtained eternal redemption.
13 For if the blood of bulls and goats and the ashes of a heifer, sprinkling the unclean, sanctifies for the purifying of the flesh,
14 how much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered Himself without spot to God, cleanse your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?
15 And for this reason He is the Mediator of the new covenant, by means of death, for the redemption of the transgressions under the first covenant, that those who are called may receive the promise of the eternal inheritance.

Matthew 26:28
28 For this is My blood of the new covenant, which is shed for many for the remission of sins.

False religion cannot distinguish between commands that result in salvation and commands that come after salvation. (Acts 10:43-47)
You sure about this?

Acts 2:38
Peter answered them, “All of you must turn to God and change the way you think and act, and each of you must be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ so that your sins will be forgiven. Then you will receive the Holy Spirit as a gift.

Sure sounds like a "command that results in salvation" to me.

Acts 10:43-47
All the prophets testify about him that everyone who believes in him receives forgiveness of sins through his name.”

While Peter was still speaking these words, the Holy Spirit came on all who heard the message. The circumcised believers who had come with Peter were astonished that the gift of the Holy Spirit had been poured out even on Gentiles. For they heard them speaking in tongues[a] and praising God.

Then Peter said, “Surely no one can stand in the way of their being baptized with water. They have received the Holy Spirit just as we have.”

Sure sounds like a descriptive account of an event and not prescriptive like Acts 2:38.

But if you want to tell people to just wait to until they start suddenly speaking in tongues to be baptized for the remission of sins...okay?

In other words there is no remission of sins in your pet passage.

Matthew 26:28
28 For this is My blood of the new covenant, which is shed for many for the remission of sins.
Are you implying that Matthew 26:28 negates the need for Acts 2:38?

OR

Are you implying that Matthew 26:28 is the power behind the remission of sins for those who obey Acts 2:38?

:giggle:

I mean we still sometimes slip up. But for the thief, to stop stealing would be doable I think because it's such a deliberate sin. Not on a continuous basis especially.

🚞

I think even though it's a deliberate and to stop a deliberate (all sin is deliberate) we need the Holy Spirit to work in us to overcome sin.

The thief called Jesus Lord.
He knew he was the only way to heaven because Jesus told him on the cross.
It can take time though, but always seek Jesus we can overcome.

A lot can happen in three years...a whole lot.

It is also possible that he was punished for pass crimes committed before he was baptized.

But the point is that we don't know if he was baptized for the remission of sins by Jesus and His disciples or John the Baptist and his disciples or not.

And anyone saying that they know is baloney.
