I just typed a pretty heavy post, so I need a little levity. :) So, tell me. What's the goofiest thing you own that you can't imagine giving away?

For me, it's my invisible dog leash. Or maybe my big white fluffy bird string puppet. Or maybe my...
 
okay, dont tell anybody but I still have my junior/senior High School Lit. Portfolio. You never know when you will need a commentary on Crime and Punishment.

Growing up, my mom had a 3-foot-long wooden fork and spoon hanging on the wall...always wondered about that.

On a related note...I love Google...and Sophia Loren.

For me, I would imagine that I couldn't imagine giving away my rainbow-colored socks. They're awesome, as they've got all the little slots for all the little piggies to keep them separate and warm...and they've even got smiley faces on each one.

Honestly, I don't like 'stuff', so other than my ever-growing tool collection, most of everything I have gets given away after a time. If I don't use it, I don't need it. I'm extremely practical...to a fault. Probably the only thing I can think of that others would want me to throw away is my Carhardt coat. It's a couple thousand years old, ripped, shredded, and just generally nasty, but it's mine, and it's the warmest thing I've ever owned.

Do we need to take up a collection to get you a new one? A love offering of sorts? We do want you to be warm, but we also do not want you to appear homeless. ;) :P
 
I have to agree with Nuke Pooch a bit about a comfy, reliable piece of clothing.

When button-fly jeans were popular many eons ago, I bought two pair and wore them constantly for about 8 years. I was ready to cry when I finally realized I HAD to get rid of them... seeing as they had so many worn spots that wearing them in public anymore might have gotten me arrested. (I hate buying the "distressed" jeans you see everywhere now... I like to be a brand-spanking-new pair and "distress" them myself... through constant wear.)

I'm not much of a shopper and almost have a bit of an anxiety attack when I realize my trusty favorites no longer keep me all the way covered. (What can I say! I'm loyal and into long-term relationships!!! I don't like the thought of replacement!)

I appreciate that, but often enough I appear homeless anyways, even when I don't wear the coat. People who know a bit about me often think that I'm one step from living in a refrigerator box under a freeway overpass because I don't own a TV, don't often go out to eat, don't turn the furnace on, sometimes drive beater cars, etc...they don't understand that I read voraciously instead of watching TV, I prefer to cook my own meals, I love the cold, and there's nothing that is more fun than abusing a beater car.

So, if it's okay, I'll still have my scruffy beard, wear my raggedy coat, and sit in my cold apartment reading a book or twelve while I'm waiting for my crock pot to finish, um, crocking. It is the life I love. Simple and quiet.

A long time ago, I knew a guy who actually got paid for distressing clothing. He would get free leather jackets, etc from a custom leather shop here in Michigan and then commence to beating/scratching/scarfing them up. He'd then take them back to the store, get paid (I think it was only $20 or so, if memory serves), and get more jackets/pants/belts/etc to abuse.
 
An egg my brother took from the refrigerator eleven years ago and put out in the yard and said. " Hey Holly, Look a duck left one of its eggs!'' So of course i run out there and he has the great suggestion of putting it under a heat lamp until the egg hatches. For daaaaaaays i just stared at it waiting for it to hatch, until FINALLY after a month and the egg starts to stink do i catch on to his little game! He thought it was hilarious, but no so much when i threw the egg at him.

Anyways, i picked up the shell from the egg put it in a box and have kept it ever since.

I absolutely LOVE this story/post!!!! Sibs are wonderful! I once had this tiny drawing my brother drew back when we were little and I told him I was going to keep it forever. He proceded to tell me "there ain't noooooo way you'r (I) was going to keep that slip of stupid paper for more than a month!" Soooo I bet him five bucks (we were farm kids, five dollars was alot of money! ahhaha) that I would still have it in five years!



My purse got stolen three years into the bet, and I was more heartbroken about losing that darn drawing than I was the twenty dollars in my purse! (I was still too young to have my drivers licence or carry anything else very valuable.........)

Oh yeah..and that WOULD have been the goofiest thing I'd have not been able to imagine letting go.....I guess now it would be the little green faced monster pin my (same) brother made out of yarn for me............

I think this is practical, but some may think it is goofie. Personally, I love my Hulk hands...I don't endorse violence, but sometimes.....:D
 
I think the one thing I couldn't bear to lose or give away is my best friends hoodie. We were going to see some friends of his up in Montana for the weekend and I'd forgotten my jacket. How was I supposed to know it was gonna be 40 degrees somewhere inthe world in MAY?? I was flying from where I live in Texas where it was going to be 80+ degrees that day, so a jacket was the furthest thing from my mindat 4:30 in the morning on the way to the airport. We meed up in SD, and I'm standing there freezing. He looks at me like I'm an idiot and hands me his spare jacket. It was all warm and comfortable and it smelled like him, so needless to say, I accepted it eagerly. It brought back memories of the day he baught it and the good times we had. It's all ratty and stained now and it's not as warm as it used to be, but I still love it. He still teases me about it 3 years later.

Thats such a sweet story. The egg story on the other hand, was not very sweet lol.

I think I've gotten rid of everything I said I'd never get rid of. Do I win something?! Huh??! Huh!!??
