Because he condoned the persecution of Jews. Read his treatise, "On Christ-killers". Plus he didn't reform, he protested.

Yeah, he tried some reforming, but the church of his day was kinda "unreformable"...
so he had to take his ball and play somewhere else.

I guess when nobody wants to be reformed, protesting works out ok.

It's funny, you do realize some of the people I listed post date or are contemporary to Martin Luther.

That's AWESOME!

If they were so selfless and Godly...
I'm surprised they didn't give Martin Luther a hand!

: )

Why? Why do they unilaterally only have a form of Godliness?
They do this openly before our eyes under the cover of doctrine of men.
[h=3]Romans 1:20-26[/h]King James Version (KJV)

[SUP]20 [/SUP]For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:
[SUP]21 [/SUP]Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened.
[SUP]22 [/SUP]Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools,
[SUP]23 [/SUP]And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things.
[SUP]24 [/SUP]Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves:
[SUP]25 [/SUP]Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen.
[SUP]26 [/SUP]For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature:

[h=3]2 Timothy 3:1-6[/h]King James Version (KJV)

3 This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come.
[SUP]2 [/SUP]For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy,
[SUP]3 [/SUP]Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good,
[SUP]4 [/SUP]Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God;
[SUP]5 [/SUP]Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.

[SUP]6 [/SUP]For of this sort are they which creep into houses, and lead captive silly women laden with sins, led away with divers lusts,

I'm flummoxed, I really am. I've been to quite a few churches in my life but only one of them would I call even mildly non-biblical in nature (they believed you had to speak tongues to be saved). Certainly the churches varied from tired, almost dead, traditional country churches to more vibrant rural, suburban and city churches (some traditional, most not). Then again, I live in Australia and our churches are probably a little different.

Instead of derailing the topic myself, to the OP, I understand your pain. A friend of mine is becoming a pastor and he's afraid that He might not be accepted by his denomination do to some biblical beliefs.

You think the church of his day was un-reformable then, I agree. That situation was minor. Paul says our war is not with flesh and blood, but with principalities and powers in high places. So what is he talking about? Seminaries, Bible colleges, Bible schools. Jesus explains it like this: "The student is like his teacher. They are both alike." Lk. 6:40 Every graduate from these schools is a false teacher.

I'm jealous you live in Australia, :) like I said it really seemed like I was there for during their worst moments. I hope so anyway.

Many years ago when I lived in Cedar Creek, Texas I was driving back from town and traffic was stopped because there had been a fatal accident, a student driver and his dad had pulled out in front of a school bus in the fog and both the father and son died instantly. Traffic wasn't moving so I pulled in to the store to wait. There was a pastor of a church I had attended there with their family. He was just talking to them. 10-15 minutes later a news van showed up and immediately he made a large circle to pray for the cameras. It amazes me.

That's huge generalization on your part. That said, they do need to start teaching biblical creation and the historical-grammatical approach rather than theistic evolution and the historical-critical method to studying the Bible.

I think a lot of churches are messed up because a lot of Bible Schools and Seminaries are messed up.

But you think EVERY STUDENT from EVERY SCHOOL is a false teacher???

Martin Luther also did some excellent reforming...

you seem to have left him off the list.

You don't understand. The Protestant reformation started by Martin Luther occurred in America around the 1500's or so. We all know for an undeniable fact that neither Christ nor the Apostles originated from the Americas.

That being said, how can you be sure that the lutheran church founded by Martin Luther is under Christ's words: "The gates of Hell shall not prevail against it." ?

Immaculate conception, Baptism, and the Doctrine of the Cross has been largely unchallenged until Mr. Luther started his rebellion. If anything, he wasn't actually serving Christ; he just started a span of mass confusion and contempt among Catholic Christians and non-Catholic Christians.

Martian Luther is a prime example of this bible verse: "Can a divided house stand? Would a divided kingdom not collapse?"

By our own human weakness, we sawed off the united body of Christ which has been intended to be close to all of us, bringing each body part into our respective denominations. We're similar to the Israelites during the times of the books of Judges, Kings, and Chronicles.

 And it's so freaking stupid.

Hell, even the Atheists are confused, and we can't blame them.

Haha! What? That is... I don't. Martin Luther was a great man of God. Flawed, absolutely but one who followed Christ.

Why? Why do they unilaterally only have a form of Godliness?

well it's not unilateral. there are godly people, and right teaching, and a real presence and working of the Spirit out there.

i know one thing though - you will not have the knowledge or understanding of the scriptures that you should have to become mature in Christ by simply listening to a sermon once or twice a week. and you will not develop a strong prayer life, servants heart, meekness and humility or wisdom in grace simply by going to a chapel service once or twice a week.
anyone depending on a pastor/minister/teacher to grow them in the faith is going to be malnourished.

if you do not read, and pray and seek God apart from organized religion, how will you even know if the man behind the pulpit is teaching the truth? people are destroyed for lack of knowledge.
and there are a lot of people who will say "i'm a Christian" who cannot say "i have read the Bible at least once" or "i read from the Bible regularly."

that is a problem!

Listen, let's leave the Protestant vs Catholic debate out. My point of those who seek God's justice can be construed into starting an argument that will derail this conversation. Let's not derail it.
