reneweddaybyday said: The word "wander" means to travel, to roam.

For some it means to wander and roam away from the Lord.

We should not be doing that
I never implied otherwise.

reneweddaybyday said: We are instructed to stand and withstand the wiles of the devil

JayWalker said: Jesus walked in victory never giving place to the devil so He was victorious over the devil's wiles and so should we be

reneweddaybyday said: And Ephesians 6 gives instruction that we are to stand and withstand.

Yes, abide IN Christ and not wander or roam away from Him.
to stand and withstand as instructed in Ephesians 6 is to abide in the Lord Jesus Christ. As we stand and withstand as instructed in Ephesians 6, we walk in victory never giving place to the devil.

Do you know what it is to be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might as instructed in Eph 6:10?

Ephesians 6:10 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.

to abide in the Lord as instructed in John 15 is to remain, rooted in Him, fully engrafted so that He shines forth as we hold out His fruit to others.

John 15:4-5 Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me. I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.

to be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might is to rely totally on God no matter what is going on around us ... easier said than done ... just sayin'

when we are strong in the Lord and in the power of His might, He works within so we are able to stand and withstand.

.

reneweddaybyday said: The word "wander" means to travel, to roam. We are just like those spoken of in Hebrews 11 ... we are pilgrims and we travel/roam/wander in this world as God leads us.

And Ephesians 6 gives instruction that we are to stand and withstand.

What is often forgotten is that as pilgrims we wander someplace that is not our home, rather our home is elsewhere, no matter how long we live in a specific area during our wanderings.
Yes ... Philippians 3:20 For our conversation is in heaven; from whence also we look for the Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ.

We are merely ambassadors in this world (2 Cor 5:20).

And we are called to stand and withstand, but we need to follow through. A soldier in battle might be told to hold their position and assured that the full weight of the rest of the army is behind them so they can withstand the enemy's attack, but that does not mean that any specific individual soldier will not run instead of standing,
In and of ourselves, we are incapable of standing and/or withstanding the wiles of the devil. He is a liar and a deceiver. The only One Who has ever defeated the devil is the Lord Jesus Christ ... and He is in us and we in Him. If and when we leave our abode in Him, we fall prey to our adversary. Thank God for His unspeakable Gift!

.

Do you know what it is to be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might as instructed in Eph 6:10?

Yes to abide IN Christ and not wander or roam away from Him and kicking the devil's back side.

Do you know what it means to submit yourself unto the Lord?

James 4:7
Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

... easier said than done ...

Sounds like you have a lot of growing and maturing to do

Proverbs 13:15
the way of transgressors is hard.

Walking with the Lord is easier than being a transgressor by a long shot.

I've been on both sides of that fence and I can testify walking with the Lord is far easier because I'm abiding IN Christ which gives me access to His strength, power, and ability

She won't be because they won't be allowed in to Heaven

Idolatry is one of the things the Lord says will cause people to not be allowed in to His Kingdom

But to your point, yes Mary would tell people to follow Jesus' instructions on prayer and point out Jesus and His Apostles never instructed anybody to pray to her.

None of which instructs anybody top pray to Marty
...what gets anyone to heaven is Jesus came in the flesh died on the cross for the worlds sin was buried rose the 3rd day the only way to the father. I guess some could be worshiping Mary as a god but... I don't know any that believe or teach she is a god. she was, human creature, not a divine being, and is not to be worshipped.

We just don't see creation as He created them... Not our kids that are lost mislead stuck in sin huh. So its easy to say.. your not getting in .. I am though woot! Just playing.. relax.

So I agree with one that said Can't Catholics be right about Jesus just wrong about Mary? IF they are not worshiping her as a god. Praying to her or some sleeping saint.. its off but. Do they believe in trust in rely on Jesus/Yeshua Christ as lord.

you think you "kick the devil's back side"?

Do you know what it means to submit yourself unto the Lord?

James 4:7
Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
the word "resist" in James 4:7 is the same Greek word used in Ephesians 6:13:

James 4:7 Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist [Greek anthistēmi] the devil, and he will flee from you.

Ephesians 6:13 Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand
[Greek antihistēmi] in the evil day, and having done all, to stand [Greek histēmi (root of antihistēmi)].

The Greek word "anti" transforms the word "histēmi" from "holding a firm position" into an action whereby the believer actively resists as we wrestle against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places (Eph 6:12).

IF they are praying to mary or contacting other dead peeps (those departed from this world) then they are practicing Idolatry so those doing such will not be in attendance at the Marriage Supper of the Lamb

you think you "kick the devil's back side"?

Of course! You aren't whippin up on the devil when he tries to invade your life? That would explain a lot.

Go read the Gospels and observe what Jesus did to the devil when the old devil tried to attack Jesus trying to get Him to sin.

Jesus took God's Word and beat the devil senseless! Jesus was using the Sword of the Spirit which is our offensive weapon and we are to follow Jesus and do what He does.

So was I, but apparently you are a little short on knowing HOW to rely totally on God

Glad for you that you have achieved the status of doing that 24/7/365.

You haven't? It's known as abiding IN Christ walking in the Spirit not the flesh.

Sounds like you need to up your game and get with the program over there!

It's far past time to get serious with being a full time Christian it is not?

I am a mere mortal

I am a supernatural man because I've been born again and filled with the Spirit of Jesus Christ.

I used to be a mere mortal back when I was a sinner living in rebellion against the Lord.

I feel sorry for you mere mortals

"It is written" was the example the Lord Jesus Christ left for us to follow. Good enough for Him ... good enough for me.

JayWalker said:

One of the most effective "offensive weapons" ... which is also the most underutilized imo ... is prayer.

Have you ever noticed that in the record where we are told to put on the whole armor of God we are instructed to pray always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints ? have you taken note of that JayWalker???

Have you noticed all the times Jesus would go off by Himself to commune with the Father? what a great example for us.

Yes and did you notice the Sword of the Spirit is our offensive weapon?

That is confessing and declaring God's Word and standing on what God says expecting God to watch over His Word to perform it in the face of the devil.

Yes there is a time for prayer but this does not mean we ask God to get the devil off of us, no Jesus said one of the signs that would follow believers is in His Name they would cast out devils. - Mark 16:17-18

We are joint heirs with Jesus and have the authority to speak in His Name.

Have you noticed all the times Jesus would go off by Himself to commune with the Father? what a great example for us.

Yeah that was after He ran the devil off.

Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God

Yes, God's Word is the Mighty Hand of God so being a doer of the Word is being humble.

I am a mere mortal who recognizes that there are times when I am distracted and I sometimes fall short. God is gracious and is always there when I realize I have fallen short

Why don't you stop then?

Why keep doing what causes trouble?

1 Corinthians 10:12 Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall.

Yes which is why take heed, so I don't fall.

Yes, triumph in Christ ... so glad for you that you are never, ever, for even one moment drawn away

Too bad for you that you apparently fall away from the Lord frequently.

You know what not to do, so why do you keep doing what you know not to do?

Ephesians 6:17-18 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God: Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints

in prayer, we acknowledge that in and of ourselves we are unable to overcome the wiles of the devil ... prayer brings us into alignment with God's will and shifts our focus to the power of God ... away from the circumstance we find ourselves in.

I believe prayer is needful in every circumstance ... whether good or not so good ... whether huge or not so significant. Bringing God into our life situations makes life so enjoyable. Who doesn't need God's peace, God's love, God's joy in whatever is going on?

In the immediate context of 1 Peter 5, the mighty hand of God speaks of God's power by which He resists the proud and gives grace to the humble. Other examples of God's mighty hand can be found in Scripture.

Being a doer of the Word is being obedient ... those who love the Lord will keep His commandments (John 14:21).

again ... glad to you that you are never, ever, for even one moment drawn away.

1 John 1:8-10

8 If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.

9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

10 If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.

.

So when we read the Bible, when we read scripture, we are reading the “mind of Christ”, spoken and taught by God the Holy Spirit. When we read scripture, we are reading the words of the Holy Spirit. He is talking to us. He has written this for and to us. THE HOLY SPIRIT SPEAKS TO Us THROUGH SCRIPTURE.
We are in every sense, dependent on the word. Yet, we have our pool of instructors that help us not to stray. Some I think, too far. Luther once commenting on 2 Pet. 1:20 handing many, the apparent justification of refusing open study, ", , the Holy Spirit must interpret, or it must remain uninterpreted”.

I told you ... I abide in the Lord Jesus Christ, stand and withstand firm in faith against the wiles of the devil.

IF that is true, then you whippin up on the devil when he tries to invade your life!

Good for you man!

Yes, we take the sword of the Spirit which is the word of God and pray always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit:

I see so you don't actually do what Jesus did which was speak God's Word directly to the devil and demand the devil to get out of His sight (get behind me was not an invitation for satan to follow Jesus around walking behind Him - no, that means "get out of my sight")

Sounds like all you are doing is praying to God about the devil which is not doing what Jesus said to do:
Mark 16:17
these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall THEY cast out devils

We have the same authority Jesus did and does over the devil and all demons under him.

Romans 8:17
if we are children of God, we are also joint-heirs with Christ.

Notice what the Lord said through Paul's prayer:

Ephesians 1:18-21
The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints,
And what is the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believe, according to the working of his mighty power,
Which he wrought in Christ, when he raised him from the dead, and set him at his own right hand in the heavenly places,
Far above all principality, and power, and might, and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this world, but also in that which is to come

Those who are IN Christ have His Power and are above the devil in authority in the New Covenant as members of the Body of Christ.

I believe prayer is needful in every circumstance ... whether good or not so good ... whether huge or not so significant. Bringing God into our life situations makes life so enjoyable. Who doesn't need God's peace, God's love, God's joy in whatever is going on?

Psalm 16:11 Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore.

Sadly you aren't confessing and declaring God's Word and standing on what God says expecting God to watch over His Word to perform it in the face of the devil.

You lack understanding on HOW to use the Sword of the Spirit against your adversary the devil.

Not always ...

Your claim is Jesus did not run the devil off???

That's sounds like the fake "jesus" taught by man made carnal minded religion.

That's a different "jesus" and another "gospel"

God's Word is God's instruction to mankind.

you have never, ever, not even one time, fallen in your walk with the Lord?

Back in the day, sure... but not any more.

Why would I want to lay down and let the devil slap me around like he did Job?

That's just being slow.

If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.

1 John 1:8 is speaking of sin that is on our record, otherwise John 1:9 would be a lie

Ever read the rest of God's Word on this topic? You really need to get up to speed man and accept the whole counsel of God!

1 John 3:8
He that committeth sin is of the devil

John 8:34
Whosoever committeth sin is the servant of sin.

1 John 3:9
Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God.

1 John 3:7
Little children, let no man deceive you: he that DOES righteousness is righteous, even as he is righteous.

1 John 3:6
Whosoever abideth in him sinneth not: whosoever sinneth hath not seen him, neither known him.

1 John 5:18
We know that whosoever is born of God sinneth not; but he that is begotten of God keepeth himself, and that wicked one toucheth him not.

1 Corinthians 15:34
Awake to righteousness, and sin not; for some have not the knowledge of God: I speak this to your shame.

1 John 2:1
My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not.

1 John 1:7
But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus His Son cleanses us from all sin.

Galatians 5:16
Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh.

2 Peter 1:4
Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.

2 Peter 2:14,15
Having eyes full of adultery, and that cannot cease from sin; beguiling unstable souls: an heart they have exercised with covetous practices; cursed children:
Which have forsaken the right way, and are gone astray, following the way of Balaam the son of Bosor, who loved the wages of unrighteousness;

Romans 6:1,2
What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound?
God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein?

Romans 11:22
Behold therefore the goodness and severity of God: on them which fell, severity; but toward thee, goodness, if thou continue in his goodness: otherwise thou also shalt be cut off.

Romans 8:1
There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.

Romans 8:6
For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.

Romans 8:13,14
For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live.
For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.

2 Timothy 2:21
If a man therefore purge himself from these, he shall be a vessel unto honor, sanctified, and meet for the master's use, and prepared unto every good work.

Luther once commenting on 2 Pet. 1:20 handing many, the apparent justification of refusing open study, ", , the Holy Spirit must interpret, or it must remain uninterpreted”.

Was that before or after he got drunk?
You did know he was a known drunkard didn't you?

Speaking for myself, I'm not getting my spiritual inspiration from a drunkard like Martin Luther or from a murderer like John Calvin.

I think I'll just stick with follow Jesus. (y)

The devil tries to distract me from living in God's presence ... and, as I have indicated, there are times when I have been drawn away. But God is faithful to watch over me and bring me back to Him.

sigh ... that is not my claim ... that is your misrepresentation of what I stated.

Here's the discussion:

JayWalker said: Yeah that was after He ran the devil off.

You claimed Jesus would go off by Himself to commune with the Father "after He ran the devil off". I merely pointed out that sometimes Jesus went off by Himself without having "run the devil off". Jesus would go off to have some alone time with His Father away from the fray.

That's sounds like the fake "jesus" taught by man made carnal minded religion.

That's a different "jesus" and another "gospel"
your misrepresentation of what I said and then running off on a tangent of your own making is getting somewhat tiresome.

JayWalker said:
1 John 1:8 is speaking of sin that is on our record, otherwise John 1:9 would be a lie
the word "confess" in vs 9 is translated from the Greek word homologeó which means to say the same thing.

the word "sins" is translated from the Greek word hamartia which means to miss the mark.

to say the same thing about sin that God says about sin does not mean that 1 John 1:9 "would be a lie" when the Holy Spirit searches our heart and brings to our attention that we have missed the mark.

oops ... sorry ... I forgot ... you never, ever ... even for one moment ... miss the mark. Let me rephrase ...

to say the same thing about sin that God says about sin does not mean that 1 John 1:9 "would be a lie" when the Holy Spirit searches our my heart and brings to our my attention that we I have missed the mark.

.

When Eph 6:10-18 tells me to be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might, put on the whole armor of God, stand and withstand in the evil day, praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit ... that is doing what God tells me to do.

But you aren't mentioning HOW to run the devil off.

you have no clue concerning this issue, notwithstanding your insistence to the contrary.

I run the devil off and don't allow him to remain in my life.

I have this authority based on God's Word.

I merely pointed out that sometimes Jesus went off by Himself without having "run the devil off"

That's where you are wrong.

Jesus is certainly not going to allow the devil to be messing with Him during is fellowship with the Father.

your misrepresentation of what I said and then running off on a tangent of your own making is getting somewhat tiresome.

Maybe you need to rest up and tap a nap.

to say the same thing about sin that God says about sin does not mean that 1 John 1:9 "would be a lie" when the Holy Spirit searches our heart and brings to our attention that we have missed the mark.

When one confesses and repents of their sin, 1 John 1:9 says they are cleansed of ALL unrighteousness.

You seem to be saying that is not true claiming we all still have sin.

You can't have it both ways, either you believe 1 John 1:9 or you don't.

you think the devil had any influence to mess with the Lord Jesus Christ during His communion with the Father? satan wouldn't even bother with that ... there was no one there satan could influence to disrupt the communion.

So you just live with devils in your life allowing them to have their way with you?

That's slow right there. Really really slow.

no you don't.

Jesus said one of the signs that follow them that believe is in His Name they cast out devils - Mark 16:17-18

God taught me in my Bible to submit myself to Him and resist the devil and the old devil would leave! - James 4:7

Some among us must be using the sissy "queen james version"

I'm joint heir with Christ Jesus Romans 8:17 so I have the legal right to cast the devil out of mu business.

Glad you are able to never find yourself distracted or fall short.

You should get in to God's Word and up your game!

You can't do that by letting the devil hang around in your life.

you think the devil had any influence to mess with the Lord Jesus Christ during His communion with the Father? satan wouldn't even bother with that ... there was no one there satan could influence to disrupt the communion.

Which is why I said Jesus is certainly not going to allow the devil to be messing with Him during is fellowship with the Father.

The reason the devil couldn't mess with Jesus when He was having fellowship with the father is because Jesus decided to not allow the devil to mess with Him, that's why.

Jesus exercised authority over the devil and ran Him off, which is where I learned it from.

God's provision for me is more than adequate to deal with the devil's nonsense.

appears you "live with devils in your life" if you have to "cast out devils" and "resist the devil" so much.

and just a heads up for your edification ... here is what Jesus told His disciples:

Luke 10:19-20

19 Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you.

20 Notwithstanding in this rejoice not, that the spirits are subject unto you; but rather rejoice, because your names are written in heaven.

don't rejoice that you can cast out devils ... rejoice because your name is written in heaven ... I'll go with what Jesus says.

more of your clueless banality concerning matters of which you are completely ignorant.

you say Jesus had to "run the devil off" when He went off to pray and commune with His Father.

I say the devil wouldn't even bother as neither the Lord Jesus Christ nor the Father could be influenced by the devil. The devil only goes after the low hanging fruit ... probably why you have to keep "casting out devils" all the time.

reneweddaybyday said: you think you "kick the devil's back side"?

I follow the instructions in God's Word ... abide in the Lord Jesus Christ, stand and withstand firm in faith against the wiles of the devil.

"It is written" was the example the Lord Jesus Christ left for us to follow. Good enough for Him ... good enough for me.

1 Peter 5:6-7

6 Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time:

7 Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.

reneweddaybyday said: When I said "easier said than done", I was referring to the fact that we are "to rely totally on God no matter what is going on around us".

so happy you "rely totally on God" 24/7/365.

I am a mere mortal who recognizes that there are times when I am distracted and I sometimes fall short. God is gracious and is always there when I realize I have fallen short ... His arms are open to hold me close to His heart and apply His healing balm ...

reneweddaybyday said: Glad for you that you have achieved the status of doing that 24/7/365.
