In honor of Zaoman's corageous blog posting about no-fap November, this is being posted on open forum to try and attract more men to the challenge, and to show others they aren't alone in striving for purity.

Some say it's a myth, some say it's a reality, but either way I have not found enough peer-reviewed scientific literature to completely back it up. However, it does seem to hold true. There is a documented 24 hour cycle where men produce the highest levels of testosterone in the morning (which explains a certain early morning phenomenon many men wake up to regularly). Also of interest, men produce the highest level of sex hormones in October (regardless of climate or hemisphere), so November is right during burn time fellow challenge participants. Another tidbit - according to that link, male testesterone levels oscillate as often as every 15-20 minutes!

But the 72 hour cycle theory varies. Some say 3 days, some say 5, but the theory is that if a man does not get release within that time frame, his body is going to compel him to seek it out (in some form or another). I have found this to be true. If you starve yourself in that manner, the first few days are going to be very difficult - several days in your body is going to start yelling at you that even the trees look attractive, go take care of this "problem" already. There may well even be physical discomfort.

This is because the male organs produce certain products which have a two week expiration date. These are actually produced daily. If they are not released, they will build up. More activity drives even more production. So with no activity, it's going to be a rough week or two.

The upshot? On the back side of whatever discomfort and frustration may arise, production will have slowed and it makes it much easier to control your thoughts and drives.

And no worries, there are two ways that the body deals with this unwanted product. One is that it is urinated out, and the other is known as a "nocturnal emission." The latter is very unlikely to happen if you've gotten your thought life in order and your dreams are as well contained as your waking moments are.

If you want to talk about this in more detail without offending the fairer sex (or young children), join us in the Men's Discussion Group. There you can use slang terms and more detail, and you'll have other brothers in Christ who are going through the same thing.

That documented 24 hour cycle isn't the case with me, and so I tend to think that it is an opinion based on looking for it, thus causing it to appear true.

Case in point: there was a fad about numerology. If I recall the number correctly, there was one about 1111. I forgot the significance of it, but it became a superstitious number which people were led astray in looking for it and thinking the superstition to be true.

I would discern that the body has not been crucified yet with the affections & lust thereof. After being turned on, I don't think it has been turned off yet if one goes through this 24 hour cycle.

I believe one has to bring the body ito submission with His help by turning it off whatever it is the provision for the flesh feeds it. Until then, the body is still conditioned to produce those results for which a man suffers a 24 hour cycle & other things of which I would assume that it is normal for a married man to suffer those things. See verse 28.

1 Corinthians 7:[SUP]27 [/SUP]Art thou bound unto a wife? seek not to be loosed. Art thou loosed from a wife? seek not a wife. [SUP]28 [/SUP]But and if thou marry, thou hast not sinned; and if a virgin marry, she hath not sinned. Nevertheless such shall have trouble in the flesh: but I spare you. [SUP]29 [/SUP]But this I say, brethren, the time is short: it remaineth, that both they that have wives be as though they had none; [SUP]30 [/SUP]And they that weep, as though they wept not; and they that rejoice, as though they rejoiced not; and they that buy, as though they possessed not; [SUP]31 [/SUP]And they that use this world, as not abusing it: for the fashion of this world passeth away. [SUP]32 [/SUP]But I would have you without carefulness. He that is unmarried careth for the things that belong to the Lord, how he may please the Lord: [SUP]33 [/SUP]But he that is married careth for the things that are of the world, how he may please his wife. [SUP]34 [/SUP]There is difference also between a wife and a virgin. The unmarried woman careth for the things of the Lord, that she may be holy both in body and in spirit: but she that is married careth for the things of the world, how she may please her husband. [SUP]35 [/SUP]And this I speak for your own profit; not that I may cast a snare upon you, but for that which is comely, and that ye may attend upon the Lord without distraction.

Now Paul was single, being a widower, when writing this and so he shares his personal struggle here so as to please the Lord.

1 Corinthians 9:[SUP]24 [/SUP]Know ye not that they which run in a race run all, but one receiveth the prize? So run, that ye may obtain. 25[SUP] [/SUP]And every man that striveth for the mastery is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a corruptible crown; but we an incorruptible. [SUP]26 [/SUP]I therefore so run, not as uncertainly; so fight I, not as one that beateth the air: [SUP]27 [/SUP]But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway.

Seeing how it is an ongoing thing to do, it is best to lean on Him on where our mind dwells.

Colossians 3:1If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God. [SUP]2 [/SUP]Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth. [SUP]3 [/SUP]For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God. [SUP]4 [/SUP]When Christ, who is our life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with him in glory. [SUP]5 [/SUP]Mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth; fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil concupiscence, and covetousness, which is idolatry: [SUP]6 [/SUP]For which things' sake the wrath of God cometh on the children of disobedience: [SUP]7 [/SUP]In the which ye also walked some time, when ye lived in them.
