just splash some paint on a piece of paper and call it "abstract"

only the really enlighten will understand... kind of like only the really wise will see the Emperor's new clothes.

I need to go right ahead and get this off my chest and hopefully I will get some encouragement, comfort and advise. I've been reading up on apologetics lately because I nearly gave up on the faith in September since I didn't know of any logical reasons to believe that God and Jesus existed. Then I found apologetics and have been studying it almost every day learning a ton of stuff. It's pretty cool and totally brought me back into the faith. However one of the things that logic has that personal experience and clear movements of God don't is that logical arguments can be debated and possibly falsified. Well I recently got into an online argument with an atheist and just yesterday he posted a lengthly response to my argument and honestly, I think most of the stuff he has said is way out of my sphere. I don't know for the life of me how to respond. I asked another person on the site to help me out but if I don't get any help I'm going to have to tell the atheist that hey, I don't know what to say. You're way out of my league. I hate to do that because I don't want to make Christianity look foolish again. I don't know what to say to this guy and it kinda scares me. If I can't prove the arguments for God that I've come to regard as true under the criticism of others, how can I really know that they are true? That would put me back in the square that I was in back in September. And this bothers me. My faith is what my whole life revolves around. If I can't keep sturdy in my faith then what good is this world? What good is this world if it comes to nought? Let us eat drink and party today, because tomorrow we will die. What good is life if there is no purpose? I was an atheist once, but at the time I didn't think about ultimate purpose and destiny. Now that I have, I can't see wanting to even be alive if there is no God, no immortality, no objective purpose to my life. I mean really. What would that leave me? 80 years on this earth, then I die, rot in the earth, and everything I labored for will come to nothing. That's a really freaking great way to look at things, no? I can't believe statement so simple as "The universe began to exist" can be challenged and disproven. Really? How can you argue with things like that? Meh I suppose I do deserve this. I've had a suspicion that I was priding myself on my intellectual prowess perhaps a bit too much. Well this shows just how uneducated I really still am. I don't know enough answers to really be an effective apologist. You know I'm really afraid to look in the thread that this person was talking to me in. There have been times recently when while I was going about my day, I would wonder and worry what this guy has replied with. I'm questioning now, whether this is really my thing, whether right now in life I should be trying to debate with nonbelievers. I can't make anyone believe in God. I can only show them the reasons. It just bothers me that somehow the simple reasons could be so easily uprooted. There is more I wish to say but time constraints prevent me.

Give me some padded walls because I sure could use them right now.

Some atheists actually do have a religion, they just fail to realize it: They worship man. And that of course would make the thought of God quite scary.

If they do not wish to see God, they will not see him. Don't let it put you down. If you shared the word of God you have done your part.
It is up to God to make the seed grow.

So now I am starting off from scratch with apologetics. Subscribed to William Lane Craig's "Defenders" podcast which teaches apologetics. Seems to do so from the bottom up. I guess that's how I should have done it in the first place. I'm not as smart as I thought.

Please Help Is Christianity more logical than atheism........? - Page 2

That's where I jump in. The person representing the atheist side is Rainn. My username is Youssarian.
I'm not as smart as I thought.
Okay, I see you threw in the towel already... I got there too late. I did consider making an account on that site, there are a few things I'd mention if I was part of the discussion, but it looks like it's over already.

And by the way, not one of us humans are as smart as we think we are. ;)

You mustn't bring shoes into the padded room, its like bringing a drink into a ball pit or cats into a room with rocking chairs.

it's hard to bounce a bouncy ball in a padded room. Trust me, I've tried.

No its easy watch *throws a beach ball at Astrids head* bounces! :O Oh no I think she's mad... good thing I'm in a padded room... x)
