Are you referring to World War II? (When I think of the "old days," I'm thinking of the 1700s or before that.)

aaaah.... welll, we didn't learn much about the history of Norway before WW2 sadly. We did have "Litteraturhistorie" (about itterature and authors) though and a bit about the vikings. I think the vikings traded with most countries, including Germany, the Netherlands, the Britannic isles and even places in Asia.
It was just the opposite for us. We didn't learn much about the world AFTER World War II. It was at the end of the books, and we never got to the end of the books.

History is fun. I had no interest in it as a young person, but later I read a lot of history books.

I find I have to write some things down if I want to remember them, and one needs to be selective of what they write down since one can only afford so much paper.

I write things in my calendar, of course. I have a sheet of paper for miscellaneous things I'll need to know all my life. I have "files" (manilla envelopes) that contain much information.
Then it becomes a problem of remembering where I keep all this information.
