There are more connections between Islam and Judeo-Christian history. You are correct that Allah is from the same root as many ancient Hebrew names derived from. For the Hebrews "God" started off as EL which was a name for God across much of the early middle eastern cultures. In the earliest understanding, The God of Israel was a member of the Divine Council and was given Israel as His "inheritance." This occurs in the Song of Moses (Deuteronomy 32 especially in verse 9 and 4:19-20, Psalms 78:71 and 94:14), which describes the Most High (often read as Elyon) dividing the earth's nations and assigning them to various divine beings or sons of God land where only He was God. There were other versions that evolved from EL including:
  1. Elohim – God, Creator, Mighty One (Genesis 1:1)
  2. Ruach – Spirit of God (Genesis 1:2)
  3. Yahweh (YHWH) – I AM WHO I AM (Genesis 2:4, Exodus 3:14)
  4. El Elyon – God Most High (Genesis 14:18–20)
  5. Adonai – Lord, Master (Genesis 15:2)
  6. El Roi – The God Who Sees Me (Genesis 16:13)
  7. El Shaddai – God Almighty, All-Sufficient One (Genesis 17:1)
  8. El Olam – The Everlasting God (Genesis 21:33)
  9. Yahweh-Yireh (Jehovah-Jireh) – The LORD Will Provide (Genesis 22:14)
  10. The Mighty One of Jacob (Genesis 49:24)

Thus, the history for the many names of God is inherent in our Bible. Mohammad lived in a culture already largely monotheistic. Culturally, late antique Arabia was already deeply permeated by Judeo-Christian and indigenous monotheistic currents (hunafa) circulating through regional trade and cultural exchange. Culturally and theologically, Islam traces their history back to Ismael son of Abraham.

Correct....
"In the name of God" is what it actually says....if you are gonna translate don't do it half way...go all out.

And it's a blending of two languages and adding a third to do this.
