Luk 23:
44 And it was now about the sixth hour, and a darkness came over the whole land until the ninth hour, 45 the sun’s light failing: and the veil of the temple was rent in the midst.
Yes, it was black, though we are accustomed to calling it good Friday.
I don't recall anything about Black Friday when I lived in Manchester in the 1970's, not that I was much of a shopper then, rather a poor student. We did most of our shopping in small shops; green grocer for vegetables, butcher for meat, soft drinks at the News shop, iron mongers for hardware -- and I must not leave out the rag bone man from whom I bought a used doll house for a few bob.

The first time I had even heard of Black Friday was last year. This year it is everywhere I look/hear.

it's been a big thing here in the states for years and it gets bigger and bigger every year. it used to be only Friday, but now many of the sales start on Thursday, our thanksgiving holiday, night.

I understand why Black Friday was created but I think it is silly from a consumer perspective. Why get caught in the crazy madness when these types of sales are advertised & promoted throughout the year. Many stores are going out-of-business, relocating, clearing out old merchandise and etc. There are even better markdowns on the internet year round.

I hate all of the black friday stuff.....won't do it.....I hate all of the madness for shopping , period!
I am to the point to that i don't look forward to the holidays at all......our college town is full....FULL of shoppers going crazy starting on Thanksgiving day this year........it's getting really sad. Im ready to move to the middle of no where!

When you stop to consider that many UK buisnesses are owned by or have strong US ties, then its not as surprising to see Black Friday Sales appearing here. I went into town yesterday and did not see much evidence of Black Friday in force, a number of shops put a 20% off everything sign up, including Sports Direct, hardly the bargains that are associated in the USA with Back Friday. Asda seem to be the only ones who are going out 100%, but then they are owned by Walmart. Tesco I beleive put a few items out at 80% reduction, but going in store you would not even think there was any kind of sale going on. Other shops did not even bother, especailly a few privatly owned shops.
Traditional sale days in UK is over the Christmas and New Year, Many of our large stores still get people camping for days outside the shop to bag the bargain!
Your last year is my this year. What's Black Friday all about? I keep getting emails about everyone's Black Friday sales and its all over twitter at the moment. I must be honest, I have no idea what it is and I haven't bothered to google it.

The reason you saw no evidence was that all the "bargains" had been snapped-up by 10am. People were queuing during the early hours. Last year was a small deal, this year was huge!

Here in vt, some people got in trouble with the police for fighting over the Frozen movie dolls in the store..apparently there was only 1 left and they both wanted it..lol.. #crazy people need straitjackets..

So true...sad how it was thanksgiving and to be thankful and yet the very next day black Friday is when they run and grab at what they want....sad
