I used to like to modify lyrics of songs, to more reflect reality. My favorite isn't for posting here, but it's fun to soak some pop songs in truth. Most of what they're really singing about is Spinal Tap, crossed with the Chicken Ranch.

Thats funny man. I totally do that too....it can get a little racy for some. LOL I think it's a defense mechanism in me....haha.

That's just it. God is not unreliable. We are. It's not appropriate to lay any of that on God.

It's kinda like people gathering around in a prayer circle for someone who is terminally ill and saying they died because the people praying didn;t have enough "faith". As if God would put someone's life on your "faith" or lack thereof.

Or that He doesn't get it, sort of dense that way: if we'd only more clearly expressed we didn't prefer disaster.
 
I'm gonna get a little flak for saying this but I don't think we get what we pray for but that which we earn. If we plant good seeds....we reap good crops.....if we plant bad seed we reap bad crops..

My personal take on is that yes....God does give generously to us.....but our feet still gotta move. If you wanna good job you gotta go to college and learn how to do it first.

In terms of marriage, you could be Solomon, but that may not make the other person wise. Neither is being wise assurance of avoiding bad circumstances, that you never even foresee. Nor is wisdom now assurance of remaining wise. But, again, God doesn't make robots. It's not an appropriate prayer, to ask God to, in essence, make sure the person you marry tows the line, or yourself, in perpetuity, or slay one of you, whatever. You have to both tow the line, fastidiously, or there will be trouble. There are zero guarantees in marriage. It will always be taking a chance, an element of blind faith. Again, not even God will force obedience, and you're even talking about a lifetime of obedience, moving forward. It's like asking God, "Make my flesh life, in a corrupt world, perfect." Nice prayer, but probably not a very good one. Better to ask Him to help you cope, with the evils of the day!

I agree, and so does the Bible,

Galatians 6:7 Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.

Being a Christian and forgiven doesn't mean there are no consequences. Look at David. The Lord forgave him, but what sorrow down the road.
 
God isn't some magic santa clause in the sky. The truth of the matter is that "man plans his way and God guides his steps". We are the gardner of our lives and we plant, cultivate and harvest what we sow.

Man...those consequences suck! Thank the Lord Jesus that HE loves me and disciplines me when I go astray.


Yesterday my step son was complaining because he got ISS for something he didn't do. Interestingly when it all washed out he was not guilty of what he was accused of but still has to do ISS. He was pitching a fit about it and I said....dude...think about it this way....that thing you got away with that you didn't get in trouble for...just think of this as payment for that.

In terms of the overall environment, what's driving the nightly news, God has little to do with this world. (This is not saying He isn't doing much.) The mess we're in, up to our ears, is brought to you by our sponsor, the world, the flesh and the devil. We're largely just reeling out a longer rope to hang ourselves with, to the man, if God doesn't intervene before then.

He knows what He is doing....we just need to hang onto Jesus cuz it's gonna get bumpy.

Hate may be a little strong, but there was, assuredly, no regard for her, foremost in his mind. Suppose that could be a sort of hate, an absence of love. Never mind...
 
I realized we derailed slightly but maybe not all that much in terms of how passive men are. I've often wondered why Adam didn;t stand up for Eve. When you read the passage it's almost as if he was watching Sports Night on ESPN going...yes honey...whatever you want...hey will you grab me a beer?
