One is not under the law because someone has taken the punishment not because the law is no more.

One is not under the Law because they are under Grace. They have come to the Lord Jesus Christ and He is growing the fruit of the Holy Spirit in them.

John 15:5 I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.

Galatians 5:22-23
[SUP]22 [/SUP]But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,
[SUP]23 [/SUP]Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.

You know, the better promises... In what the law was weak to perform...

Was God wrong in Leviticus 11?

You are telling me that you don't accept the revelation of the New Testament in the same way as you do that of the Old Testament? surely not?

Plenty of plausible clergy - for their own reasons - will tell you to keep under the law, and try to put you back under it.

Acts is an important, transitional book, and maybe a good read through it would mitigate your struggles on this issue.

Out of curiosity, when and where did God "cleanse" food that He had already said was "unclean" forever? (Leviticus 11)

Matthew 15:11 Not that which goeth into the mouth defileth a man; but that which cometh out of the mouth, this defileth a man.

Now don't be silly with your assumptions, brother.
1) I do not think any less of the New Testament or the book of Acts. Both are anointed by God
2) I have read the book of Acts many times.

My point is this: If God told His people in Leviticus 11 that certain animals were unclean, detestable and abhorrent, He is going to be consistent with what He says in Acts 10. So what's the resolution? Peter's vision had nothing to do with animals or food. God wasn't making food clean because that would contradict what he had already said was unclean, detestable and abhorrent. It was about people...

Acts 10:28 "And he said to them, “You yourselves know how unlawful it is for a man who is a Jew to associate with a foreigner or to visit him; and yet God has shown me that I should not call any man unholy or unclean."

Regardless, this thread is about the Sabbath, not diet. That should be a topic for a different thread.

But rest assured, I'm saved by grace just as much as you are, and am not under the law for salvation, just as much as you are not.

Matt

KohenMatt: Well, praise God! I'm sorry, but I just didn't understand some of your questions, evidently.

No worries, brother. This stuff can be confusing at times. And God knows I'm not always the best communicator.

Just ask my wife.;)

PS: KohenMatt: And althogh it was about other matters also, Acts 10.13 does relate to food: "Rise Peter, kill and eat'>

That's no biggie for me, it's not a salvation issue for me.

Personally, you won't catch me near seafood or pork. God described them right in Leviticus 11, they're detestable and abhorrent. The equivalent to eating cockroaches.

But to each their own.

Well, I'm not under the law, and Acts 10 assures me of it.

If you prefer not to eat pork, this is fine. For me this would be a cultural preference rather than a legal requirement.

It's also a health issue for me. Pork and shellfish are basically toilets, eating other animals' garbage.

Here is something for you to ponder:

Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil. 18For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled. 19Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.

Teaching men that in order to please God, what you need to do is disregard His Words, is as insane a thing as I have ever heard!

What I see a LOT...is God stalkers. They speak empty words and say they love God, in the same breath say ignore instructions from God. God stalkers are all talk, Furthermore...
To love YHVH is to:

  • follow Him,
  • fear Him,
  • keep His commandments,
  • listen to His voice,
  • serve Him and
  • cling to Him (Deut 13:4)
To love YHVH is not just an emotion, it is total devotion and obedience to Him. To love YHVH is to keep His commandments, all of them!

If you are not fighting those who honor the Sabbath, why do you continually post on the keeping sabbath thread! That is a contradiction. It is also contrary to what Messiah taught, and how He lived! Read your Bible.

Thank you for your interpretations, and how you see to be, love it and appreciate your thoughts on the subject, sorry you do not appreciate mine as well. To each their own, I am good between God and me, thanks to Son Amen!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The truth is, some can't stand others keeping the Sabbath - and you go as far as relating the keeping of Sabbath with sin?!
What did the Hebrews writer say of those who heard and rebelled in the wilderness? What did they hear and what were they rebel against? Why were they punished? According to Ezekiel 22:8 and Jeremiah 17:19-27, one of the reasons were the desecration of the Sabbath.
Yeshua says it's lawful to do good on the Sabbath. Does He mean His followers, if they have the choice, have the freedom to work on that day?
What does the word "work" mean to you? To me work is the opposite of rest. Rest is not work and work is not rest.

Have you not entered his rest? Heb, 3 and 4 pretty clear yet only God can reveal this truth to you
Why did they not enter his rest in the day of provocation?

Acts 11 ....

Show me where Peter said hooray, I can now eat anything. What was the lesson he learned? What conclusion was drawn from this?

Act 11:5 I was in the city of Joppa praying: and in a trance I saw a vision, A certain vessel descend, as it had been a great sheet, let down from heaven by four corners; and it came even to me:
Act 11:6 Upon the which when I had fastened mine eyes, I considered, and saw fourfooted beasts of the earth, and wild beasts, and creeping things, and fowls of the air.
Act 11:7 And I heard a voice saying unto me, Arise, Peter; slay and eat.
Act 11:8 But I said, Not so, Lord: for nothing common or unclean hath at any time entered into my mouth.
Act 11:9 But the voice answered me again from heaven, What God hath cleansed, that call not thou common.
Act 11:10 And this was done three times: and all were drawn up again into heaven.
Act 11:11 And, behold, immediately there were three men already come unto the house where I was, sent from Caesarea unto me.
Act 11:12 And the Spirit bade me go with them, nothing doubting. Moreover these six brethren accompanied me, and we entered into the man's house:
Act 11:13 And he shewed us how he had seen an angel in his house, which stood and said unto him, Send men to Joppa, and call for Simon, whose surname is Peter;
Act 11:14 Who shall tell thee words, whereby thou and all thy house shall be saved.
Act 11:15 And as I began to speak, the Holy Ghost fell on them, as on us at the beginning.
Act 11:16 Then remembered I the word of the Lord, how that he said, John indeed baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost.
Act 11:17 Forasmuch then as God gave them the like gift as he did unto us, who believed on the Lord Jesus Christ; what was I, that I could withstand God?
Act 11:18 When they heard these things, they held their peace, and glorified God, saying, Then hath God also to the Gentiles granted repentance unto life.

NOTHING is mentioned about what one may eat or not eat, but rather that those who had been considered "unclean" were now considered to be called of God to salvation.

What does Hebrews 7 say about a change in the Law?

Heb 7:1 For this Melchisedec, king of Salem, priest of the most high God, who met Abraham returning from the slaughter of the kings, and blessed him;
Heb 7:2 To whom also Abraham gave a tenth part of all; first being by interpretation King of righteousness, and after that also King of Salem, which is, King of peace;
Heb 7:3 Without father, without mother, without descent, having neither beginning of days, nor end of life; but made like unto the Son of God; abideth a priest continually.

Christ was Melchisidec and the High Priest prior to Abraham.

Heb 7:4 Now consider how great this man was, unto whom even the patriarch Abraham gave the tenth of the spoils.
Heb 7:5 And verily they that are of the sons of Levi, who receive the office of the priesthood, have a commandment to take tithes of the people according to the law, that is, of their brethren, though they come out of the loins of Abraham:

From Whom did Levi receive the Priesthood? (A rhetorical question by the way.)

Heb 7:6 But he whose descent is not counted from them received tithes of Abraham, and blessed him that had the promises.
Heb 7:7 And without all contradiction the less is blessed of the better.
Heb 7:8 And here men that die receive tithes; but there he receiveth them, of whom it is witnessed that he liveth.
Heb 7:9 And as I may so say, Levi also, who receiveth tithes, payed tithes in Abraham.

The subject is who carried out the office of Priest (who received tithes)?

Heb 7:10 For he was yet in the loins of his father, when Melchisedec met him.
Heb 7:11 If therefore perfection were by the Levitical priesthood, (for under it the people received the law,) what further need was there that another priest should rise after the order of Melchisedec, and not be called after the order of Aaron?

Were the Levites perfect?

Heb 7:27 Who needeth not daily, as those high priests, to offer up sacrifice, first for his own sins, and then for the people's: for this he did once, when he offered up himself.
Heb 7:28 For the law maketh men high priests which have infirmity; but the word of the oath, which was since the law, maketh the Son, who is consecrated for evermore.

Heb 7:12 For the priesthood being changed, there is made of necessity a change also of the law.

What Law needed changed if the Priesthood was changed? This one?

Exo 20:14 Thou shalt not commit adultery.

Of course not, the Law that made the sons of Levi, specifically the sons of Aaron the Priests.

Exo 28:1 And take thou unto thee Aaron thy brother, and his sons with him, from among the children of Israel, that he may minister unto me in the priest's office, even Aaron, Nadab and Abihu, Eleazar and Ithamar, Aaron's sons.

Heb 7:13 For he of whom these things are spoken pertaineth to another tribe, of which no man gave attendance at the altar.
Heb 7:14 For it is evident that our Lord sprang out of Juda; of which tribe Moses spake nothing concerning priesthood.

Christ was disqualified from the Aaronical Priesthood by DNA. He was not a Levite, He was a Jew.

Heb 7:15 And it is yet far more evident: for that after the similitude of Melchisedec there ariseth another priest,
Heb 7:16 Who is made, not after the law of a carnal commandment, but after the power of an endless life.

Not after a law that pertains to the flesh. What Law pertains to the flesh? We just read it…

Exo 28:1 And take thou unto thee Aaron thy brother, and his sons with him, from among the children of Israel, that he may minister unto me in the priest's office, even Aaron, Nadab and Abihu, Eleazar and Ithamar, Aaron's sons.

No one but a flesh and blood Levite and a direct descendant of Aaron could be a Priest.

Heb 7:17 For he testifieth, Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec.
Heb 7:18 For there is verily a disannulling of the commandment going before for the weakness and unprofitableness thereof.

What Commandment? This one?

Deu 6:5 And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might.

No, again, we are speaking of this one…

Exo 28:1 And take thou unto thee Aaron thy brother, and his sons with him, from among the children of Israel, that he may minister unto me in the priest's office, even Aaron, Nadab and Abihu, Eleazar and Ithamar, Aaron's sons.

Heb 7:19 For the law made nothing perfect, but the bringing in of a better hope did; by the which we draw nigh unto God.
Heb 7:20 And inasmuch as not without an oath he was made priest:
Heb 7:21 (For those priests were made without an oath; but this with an oath by him that said unto him, The Lord sware and will not repent, Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec:)
Heb 7:22 By so much was Jesus made a surety of a better testament.
Heb 7:23 And they truly were many priests, because they were not suffered to continue by reason of death:
Heb 7:24 But this man, because he continueth ever, hath an unchangeable priesthood.
Heb 7:25 Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them.
Heb 7:26 For such an high priest became us, who is holy, harmless, undefiled, separate from sinners, and made higher than the heavens;
Heb 7:27 Who needeth not daily, as those high priests, to offer up sacrifice, first for his own sins, and then for the people's: for this he did once, when he offered up himself.

Again, these fleshly Priests were no more sinless than you or I. They were not perfect…

Heb 7:11 If therefore perfection were by the Levitical priesthood, (for under it the people received the law,) what further need was there that another priest should rise after the order of Melchisedec, and not be called after the order of Aaron?

Heb 7:28 For the law maketh men high priests which have infirmity; but the word of the oath, which was since the law, maketh the Son, who is consecrated for evermore.

So here we see that the Law of Ex 28 that determines who the Priests could be, had to be changed…

Heb 7:12 For the priesthood being changed, there is made of necessity a change also of the law.

Why?

Heb 7:13 For he of whom these things are spoken pertaineth to another tribe, of which no man gave attendance at the altar.
Heb 7:14 For it is evident that our Lord sprang out of Juda; of which tribe Moses spake nothing concerning priesthood.

Jesus Christ was not a direct descendant of Aaron of the tribe of Levi, so the Law was changed BACK to a Mechisidec Priesthood.

Which excludes the law, that has been used for self gain toooo many times?
The original agreement from God to Abraham, by Faith, (belief) in God we are counted as righteous, not in and of ourselves ever, b y Faith, we react and do as God leads not Law.

PS: KohenMatt: And althogh it was about other matters also, Acts 10.13 does relate to food: "Rise Peter, kill and eat'>

And did Peter rise and kill and eat?

Act 10:13 And there came a voice to him, Rise, Peter; kill, and eat.
Act 10:14 But Peter said, Not so, Lord; for I have never eaten any thing that is common or unclean. Act 10:15 And the voice spake unto him again the second time, What God hath cleansed, that call not thou common.
Act 10:16 This was done thrice: and the vessel was received up again into heaven.
Act 10:17 Now while Peter doubted in himself what this vision which he had seen should mean, behold, the men which were sent from Cornelius had made enquiry for Simon's house, and stood before the gate,
Act 10:18 And called, and asked whether Simon, which was surnamed Peter, were lodged there.
Act 10:19 While Peter thought on the vision, the Spirit said unto him, Behold, three men seek thee.

Hence the three times with the vision.

Act 10:20 Arise therefore, and get thee down, and go with them, doubting nothing: for I have sent them.
Act 10:21 Then Peter went down to the men which were sent unto him from Cornelius; and said, Behold, I am he whom ye seek: what is the cause wherefore ye are come?
Act 10:22 And they said, Cornelius the centurion, a just man, and one that feareth God, and of good report among all the nation of the Jews, was warned from God by an holy angel to send for thee into his house, and to hear words of thee.

Act 10:28 And he said unto them, Ye know how that it is an unlawful thing for a man that is a Jew to keep company, or come unto one of another nation; but God hath shewed me that I should not call any man common or unclean.

So, free to murder or commit adultery? Of free from the death penalty that disobedience to the Law brings.

Tell me Gramps, if someone breaks into your home tonight, has his way with your wife, steals all your stuff and beats you to a bloody pulp, will you say "that's just fine, we are not under the Law"?

You seem to me to have a great twist on words look over here Shinny, keeping one's mind off of the finished work of the Lord.
Did Christ do it all for us all or not, seeing how no one could ever be perfect in and of themselves ever?
You seem to focus on sin issues bringing them up for the mind to focus on whether one sins or not and this causes one to:
Whether you know this or not here is truth:
Galatians 6:8 For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting.

Under trying to obey law perfectly shows one they are under the curse being still in unredeemed flesh, and in need to be alive in Spirit and truth
