The early church met on the Lord's Day or Sunday. They would share a meal, pray and study the bible.
Wondering why modern church gatherings do not follow Paul's example all the way. i.e. share a meal, pray, study the scriptures - until midnight?
By the way, it's on the first, not on the first day if you read Greek. So the meeting might very well started after dusk on a Saturday. So Paul probably left on the Sunday morning.

You're missing his point. He asked a rhetorical question that answers itself. Paul said the gentiles not having GOD's law were obedient to GOD's law. That can only mean one thing - obedience has nothing to do with the letter, but everything to do with faith and love from the heart.

I do not believe I did miss the point because he referred to the letter in that question.

Again these gentiles obeyed God from the heart. How did they honor the sabbath?

Paul would clarify this point below:

Romans 14:[SUP]4 [/SUP]Who art thou that judgest another man's servant? to his own master he standeth or falleth. Yea, he shall be holden up: for God is able to make him stand. [SUP]5 [/SUP]One man esteemeth one day above another: another esteemeth every day alike. Let every man be fully persuaded in his own mind. [SUP]6 [/SUP]He that regardeth the day, regardeth it unto the Lord; and he that regardeth not the day, to the Lord he doth not regard it. He that eateth, eateth to the Lord, for he giveth God thanks; and he that eateth not, to the Lord he eateth not, and giveth God thanks. [SUP]7 [/SUP]For none of us liveth to himself, and no man dieth to himself. [SUP]8 [/SUP]For whether we live, we live unto the Lord; and whether we die, we die unto the Lord: whether we live therefore, or die, we are the Lord's.

You are hitting the nail on he head , just keep driving that hammer home

Wouldn't waste my time. When you give me a real answer I will present the sinners prayer to you. Not one minute earlier

If you say this is the sinners prayer well i strongly believe that anyone who says this below are fooled and lost because this is not biblical

[SIZE=+1]WOULD YOU LIKE TO BE SAVED?[/SIZE]
Pray this prayer, and mean it with all your heart.

Lord Jesus, I know that I am a sinner, and unless you save me I am lost forever. I thank you for dying for me at Calvary. I come to you now, Lord the best way I know how, and ask you to save me. I now receive you as my Savior. In Jesus Christ Name, Amen.

As Enow states, it is then we are not to buy or sell

This has been incrementally taking place for many years. The majority of mankind wears a number by the force of law in order to buy and sell. But this is for a different discussion.

I got tired of the wrangling and the strange ideas presented in this post and left it. Last I heard God was telling us to throw out words of God because they belonged to Moses sort of thing. And Paul got rid of the silly idea of God giving us a Sabbath because Christ made rest in Him, or some such. Also, when God told us to obey in spirit and truth, what God meant was to throw out all law unless it was in your heart. You also were to toss it out based on that the basis of all law is love, and on that basis you toss out law.

Did any of these issues get settled?

If you are too caught up in your emotions to see the answers posted welll thats your problem .

But I know you will not find the sinners prayer in the bible .

Yes or no? I gave you a clear yes or no answer and that is all I ask of you. By the way, I am not at all caught up in emotions. do not interpret my insistence as an emotional response. That is simply not the case.

I am going to spend the evening with my wife. I will check in later to see if you have stepped up to the plate and given me a simple answer. That would be yes or no.

here is the question again in case you have forgotten "are you saved by good works"?

Blessings

We cannot serve two masters.

Christ says:
Mark 7:7 - Howbeit in vain do they worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men.

Chirst also says:
Matthew 5:17 - ¶ Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil.

Matthew 5:18 - For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.

The Apostle Paul said:
Do we then make void the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all.

For He that said: Do not commit adultery, said also: Do not kill. Now if thou commit no adultery, yet if thou kill, thou art become a transgressor of the law. - James 2:10-11.

James 2:10 For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all.

James 2:11 For he that said, Do not commit adultery, said also, Do not kill. Now if thou commit no adultery, yet if thou kill, thou art become a transgressor of the law.

The Revalator said:
And hereby we do know that we know Him, if we keep His Commandments. He that saith, I know Him, and keepeth not His Commandments, is a liar and the truth is not in him. - 1 John 2:3-4

1 John 2:3 ¶ And hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments.

1 John 2:4 He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.

SIN AND THE PERFECT LAW

Since sin is so destructive both here and hereafter, what is the Bible's definition of sin?

Answer: "Whosoever committeth sin TRANSGRESSETH also THE LAW: for SIN IS the TRANSGRESSION OF THE LAW." 1 John 3:4. "All unrighteousness is sin..." 1 John 5:17.

How so we gain knowledge of sin? Answer: --- By THE LAW is the knowledge of sin." Rom. 3:20. "...I had known not sin, but BY the law:..." Rom. 7:7. My dear reader, please note that these New Testament scriptures plainly teach that SIN is the transgression (breaking) of "The Law" – and of sin." It is by THE LAW – a certain, particular law, that man is given a knowledge of sin, because sin is the transgression of that one law. Since sin is the transgression of one particular law, our next question is "What law?"

Paul answers, "I had not known sin, but by the law: for I had not known lust, except the law said, "Thou shalt not covet," Rom. 7:7. Here we have a quotation from the law that defines sin in New Testament times. Paul wanted the Roman brethren to know positively the identity of this ONE LAW that defines sin in the gospel age.

This is clearly a quotation from the Ten Commandments. Read Exodus 20:17. According to Paul's quotation, we must conclude that the Ten Commandments are THE LAW that gives knowledge of sin, and that sin is the transgression of the Ten Commandments in New Testament times.

Jesus taught that we must, "DO and TEACH" the commandments in this law. Matt. 5:19-20. Under his teachings, a man who looks at a woman to lust after her is GUILTY of violating the Seventh Commandment of the LAW of God found in Exodus 20:1-17. Hatred in the heart makes us GUILTY of MURDER, transgressing the SIXTH precept. Read Matt. 5:19-27. 1 John 3:15. "If thou wilt enter into life KEEP the Commandments," was Jesus' command to the rich young man of Matt. 19: 16-23. Jesus quotes several precepts to identify the law. He put His finger on the ONE precept that condemned the young man when He told him to sell his property and give it to the poor. He was violating the FIRST precept, "Thou shalt have no other gods before me," He loved his money more than God.

James, another New Testament writer wrote, "Whosoever shall keep the WHOLE LAW, and yet OFFEND in ONE point, he is GUILTY OF ALL." James 2:10-12. Here again quoting the Ten Commandments identifies "The law". This same LAW is called, "The law of liberty." Verse 12 "The perfect law of liberty." James 1: 23-25. This perfect law as taught by Christ, gives knowledge of sin and the GOSPEL gives the remedy

Instead of throwing up walls of text, why don't you simply answer timberdoodle's question with a yes or a no - "are you saved by good works"?

And now a message from our Sponsor:

Galatians 5:[SUP]13 [/SUP]For, brethren, ye have been called unto liberty; only use not liberty for an occasion to the flesh, but by love serve one another. [SUP]14 [/SUP]For all the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this; Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. [SUP]15 [/SUP]But if ye bite and devour one another, take heed that ye be not consumed one of another. [SUP]16 [/SUP]This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh.

2 Timothy 2:[SUP]24 [/SUP]And the servant of the Lord must not strive; but be gentle unto all men, apt to teach, patient, [SUP]25 [/SUP]In meekness instructing those that oppose themselves; if God peradventure will give them repentance to the acknowledging of the truth; [SUP]26 [/SUP]And that they may recover themselves out of the snare of the devil, who are taken captive by him at his will.

John 21:[SUP]15 [/SUP]So when they had dined, Jesus saith to Simon Peter, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me more than these? He saith unto him, Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I love thee. He saith unto him, Feed my lambs. [SUP]16 [/SUP]He saith to him again the second time, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me? He saith unto him, Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I love thee. He saith unto him, Feed my sheep. [SUP]17 [/SUP]He saith unto him the third time, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me? Peter was grieved because he said unto him the third time, Lovest thou me? And he said unto him, Lord, thou knowest all things; thou knowest that I love thee. Jesus saith unto him, Feed my sheep.

Matthew 25:[SUP]40 [/SUP]And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.

Instead of throwing up walls of text, why don't you simply answer timberdoodle's question with a yes or a no - "are you saved by good works"?

Thank you! It would seem as if a simple answer would be a good way to further the discussion but he or she isn't interested.

I guess this discussion (if that is what you would call it) is over.

Thank you for your time

This is a dishonest characteristic that I've noticed among (what I call) law-cultists when asked a pointed question. They equivocate, avoid, distract, obfuscate, you name it; but they will not answer directly questions that expose their true beliefs.

You are very correct. I just kick the dust off my feet and move on. Then I meet Christians like you and that makes for a blessed journey. Thank you for serving Jesus
