The apostles probably expected Jesus back during their lifetimes, and EVERY "Season of refreshing" (Like we had back in '66-'78) refreshes interest in the end of the age. One thing's sure, it's closer now than it was yesterday.
I'm still waiting on the "Mature Church of Ephesians" (Eph 4:11-16) as a major sign.

The US has a very big problem, and aging population with growing debt and Social Security and many pension funds about to become insolvent.
A pandemic that kills the elderly solves that problem.
China also has a problem. You need a birth rate of 2.1 to maintain a stable population. The birth rate in the cities is 0.7. Over the next 50 years China will lose the population of two USA's. As a result they will have an aging population that will dwarf anything we have ever seen, including Japan.
However, a pandemic that kills the elderly solves that problem.
Now obviously no one would assume that anyone would make a pandemic, so naturally it would have been better had this latest pandemic not been made in a bioweapons lab and also if the vaccine had actually been effective and not resulted in AIDS causing even more people to die.

What do you think happens in a hospital when you pack it full of people with a deadly contagious disease? Yes, things look bad now, but soon (a year or two at the most) China will have solved the problem of the elderly and also of all these sick people while at the same time creating jobs at the crematorium and cemetery.
SS has been "Going to become insolvent" in a couple of years for as long as I remember.

Technically they are right. But the funds for SS have always gone into the general fund, not an individual account because of the way the constitution deals with taxation.
It's a political distinction used to create fear and garner votes.
Birth rates are incredibly low. 2.1 births per woman would be replacement. They are around 0.07 per woman. Population is down 850,000 from last year as a result.
Ad to this the death rate is now the highest it has ever been.
From 1980 to about 2010 China had a one child policy. As a result the Chinese aborted girl babies at a much higher rate than boy babies. By 2010 they realized they had a problem and did away with the one child policy but even so the birth rate is still far below replacement level.
Now imagine for a minute that the claims of the vaccine sterilizing women is true. If all those women have been sterilized the birth rate could fall off a cliff.
We saw what happened when an entire generation was wiped out in Africa due to the AIDS epidemic. This will be devastating to the country.
