Psalm 118:22
The stone which the builders refused is become the head stone of the corner.

Here are some clues that speak of who the Stone is, who is become the headstone…..

Isaiah 28:16 “Therefore thus saith the Lord God, Behold, I lay in Zion for a foundation a stone, a tried stone, a precious corner stone, a sure foundation: he that believeth shall not make haste."

Notice below the same stone which the builders earlier rejected, the same stone is become the head stone of the corner.

Matthew 21:42

Jesus saith unto them, Did ye never read in the scriptures, The stone which the builders rejected, the same is become the head of the corner: this is the Lord's doing, and it is marvellous in our eyes?

Christ is the Rock/Stone who builds His Church…

Matthew 16:18
“And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.”

More confirmation…

Acts 4:10-11
“Be it known unto you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom ye crucified, whom God raised from the dead, even by him doth this man stand here before you whole. [SUP]11 [/SUP]This is the stone which was set at nought of you builders, which is become the head of the corner."

Ephesians 2:20
And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone;

1 Peter 2:6
Wherefore also it is contained in the scripture, Behold, I lay in Sion a chief corner stone, elect, precious: and he that believeth on him shall not be confounded.

1 Peter 2:7
Unto you therefore which believe he is precious: but unto them which be disobedient, the stone which the builders disallowed, the same is made the head of the corner,"

From Zech 4:7....

Who art thou, O great [SUP]H1419[/SUP] mountain? [SUP]H2022[/SUP] before [SUP]H6440[/SUP] Zerubbabel [SUP]H2216[/SUP] thou shalt become a plain: [SUP]H4334[/SUP] and he shall bring forth [SUP]H3318[/SUP] the headstone [SUP]H68[/SUP] [SUP]H7222[/SUP] thereof with shoutings, [SUP]H8663[/SUP] crying, Grace, [SUP]H2580[/SUP] grace [SUP]H2580[/SUP] unto it.

H68 stone…אֶבֶן ʼeben, eh'-ben; from the root of H1129 through the meaning to build; a stone:— carbuncle, mason, plummet, (chalk-, hail-, head-, sling-) stone(-ny), (divers) weight(-s).

H7222 definition means ….top, top most….from the root word H7218.

H7218 Word definition....רֹאשָׁה rôʼshâh, ro-shaw'; feminine of H7218; the head:—head(-stone).

The stone [SUP]H68[/SUP] which the builders [SUP]H1129[/SUP] refused [SUP]H3988[/SUP] is become the head [SUP]H7218[/SUP] stone of the corner. [SUP]H6438[/SUP]

This [SUP]G3778[/SUP] is [SUP]G2076[/SUP] the stone [SUP]G3037[/SUP] which [SUP]G3588[/SUP] was set at nought [SUP]G1848[/SUP] of [SUP]G5259[/SUP] you [SUP]G5216[/SUP] builders, [SUP]G3618[/SUP] which [SUP]G3588[/SUP] is become [SUP]G1096[/SUP] the head [SUP]G2776[/SUP] of [SUP]G1519[/SUP] the corner. [SUP]G1137[/SUP]

And [SUP]G1161[/SUP] he beheld [SUP]G1689[/SUP] them, [SUP]G846[/SUP] and said, [SUP]G2036[/SUP] What [SUP]G5101[/SUP] is [SUP]G2076[/SUP] this [SUP]G5124[/SUP] then [SUP]G3767[/SUP] that is written, [SUP]G1125[/SUP] The stone [SUP]G3037[/SUP] which [SUP]G3739[/SUP] the builders [SUP]G3618[/SUP] rejected, [SUP]G593[/SUP] the same [SUP]G3778[/SUP] is become [SUP]G1096[/SUP] the head [SUP]G2776[/SUP] of [SUP]G1519[/SUP] the corner? [SUP]G1137[/SUP]

And have ye [SUP]G314[/SUP] [SUP]G0[/SUP] not [SUP]G3761[/SUP] read [SUP]G314[/SUP] this [SUP]G5026[/SUP] scripture; [SUP]G1124[/SUP] The stone [SUP]G3037[/SUP] which [SUP]G3739[/SUP] the builders [SUP]G3618[/SUP] rejected [SUP]G593[/SUP] is [SUP]G3778[/SUP] [SUP]G1096[/SUP] become [SUP]G1519[/SUP] the head [SUP]G2776[/SUP] of the corner: [SUP]G1137[/SUP]

[SUP]G3788

[/SUP]
The KJV translates Strong's G2776 in the following manner: head (76x).

Bible usage....1. the head, both of men and often of animals.
2 metaph. anything supreme, chief, prominent
3. of persons, master lord: of a husband in relation to his wife
4. of Christ: the Lord of the husband and of the Church
5. of things: the corner stone

Compare G2776....

For [SUP]G3754[/SUP] the husband [SUP]G435[/SUP] is [SUP]G2076[/SUP] the head [SUP]G2776[/SUP] of the wife, [SUP]G1135[/SUP] even [SUP]G2532[/SUP] as [SUP]G5613[/SUP] Christ [SUP]G5547[/SUP] is the head [SUP]G2776[/SUP] of the church: [SUP]G1577[/SUP] and [SUP]G2532[/SUP] he [SUP]G846[/SUP] is [SUP]G2076[/SUP] the saviour [SUP]G4990[/SUP] of the body. [SUP]G4983[/SUP]

But [SUP]G1161[/SUP] speaking the truth [SUP]G226[/SUP] in [SUP]G1722[/SUP] love, [SUP]G26[/SUP] may grow up [SUP]G837[/SUP] into [SUP]G1519[/SUP] him [SUP]G846[/SUP] in all things, [SUP]G3956[/SUP] which [SUP]G3739[/SUP] is [SUP]G2076[/SUP] the head, [SUP]G2776[/SUP] even Christ: [SUP]G5547[/SUP]
Let's also look at the context of the stone that is being spoken of and laid.....

Zechariah 3:8-9 “Hear now, O Joshua the high priest, thou, and thy fellows that sit before thee: for they are men wondered at: for, behold, I will bring forth my servant the Branch. [SUP]9 [/SUP]For behold the stone that I have laid before Joshua; upon one stone shall be seven eyes: behold, I will engrave the graving thereof, saith the Lord of hosts, and I will remove the iniquity of that land in one day."

Now to Zechariah 4:7-10 [SUP]“[/SUP]Who art thou, O great mountain? before Zerubbabel thou shalt become a plain: and he shall bring forth the headstone (H68+H7222) thereof with shoutings, crying, Grace, grace unto it.[SUP]8 [/SUP]Moreover the word of the Lord came unto me, saying,[SUP]9 [/SUP]The hands of Zerubbabel have laid the foundation of this house; his hands shall also finish it; and thou shalt know that the Lord of hosts hath sent me unto you.[SUP]10 [/SUP]For who hath despised the day of small things? for they shall rejoice, and shall see the plummet (H68 same as headstone above) in the hand of Zerubbabel with those seven; they are the eyes of the Lord, which run to and fro through the whole earth."

More confirmation who that foundation stone of the Lords house is, with the 7 eyes....

Revelation 5:6
And I beheld, and, lo, in the midst of the throne and of the four beasts, and in the midst of the elders, stood a Lamb as it had been slain, having seven horns and seven eyes, which are the seven Spirits of God sent forth into all the earth."

More context of whom the Lord refers to as His servant the BRANCH...

Zechariah 3:8-9 “Hear now, O Joshua the high priest, thou, and thy fellows that sit before thee: for they are men wondered at: for, behold, I will bring forth my servant the Branch.[SUP]9 [/SUP]For behold the stone that I have laid before Joshua; upon one stone shall be seven eyes: behold, I will engrave the graving thereof, saith the Lord of hosts, and I will remove the iniquity of that land in one day."

Zechariah 6:12-13
[SUP]12 [/SUP]And speak unto him, saying, Thus speaketh the Lord of hosts, saying, Behold the man whose name is The Branch; and he shall grow up out of his place, and he shall build the temple of the Lord:
[SUP]13 [/SUP]Even he shall build the temple of the Lord; and he shall bear the glory, and shall sit and rule upon his throne; and he shall be a priest upon his throne: and the counsel of peace shall be between them both."

More scriptural confirmation on who the BRANCH is that is to build the Temple of the Lord.

Jeremiah 23:5-6
[SUP]5 [/SUP]Behold, the days come, saith the Lord, that I will raise unto David a righteous Branch, and a King shall reign and prosper, and shall execute judgment and justice in the earth.
[SUP]6 [/SUP]In his days Judah shall be saved, and Israel shall dwell safely: and this is his name whereby he shall be called, The Lord Our Righteousness."

Jeremiah 33:14-16[SUP]14 [/SUP]Behold, the days come, saith the Lord, that I will perform that good thing which I have promised unto the house of Israel and to the house of Judah.
[SUP]15 [/SUP]In those days, and at that time, will I cause the Branch of righteousness to grow up unto David; and he shall execute judgment and righteousness in the land.[SUP]16 [/SUP]In those days shall Judah be saved, and Jerusalem shall dwell safely: and this is the name wherewith she shall be called, The Lord our righteousness.

Revelation 3:12
Him that overcometh will I make a pillar in the temple of my God, and he shall go no more out: and I will write upon him the name of my God, and the name of the city of my God, which is new Jerusalem, which cometh down out of heaven from my God: and I will write upon him my new name.

Revelation 2:17
“He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the hidden manna, and will give him a white stone, and in the stone a new name written, which no man knoweth saving he that receiveth it.”

Concerning His glory…..

Revelation 4:3
“And he that sat was to look upon like a jasper and a sardine stone: and there was a rainbow round about the throne, in sight like unto an emerald.”
Revelation 21:11 “Having the glory of God: and her light was like unto a stone most precious, even like a jasper stone, clear as crystal;”
Revelation 21:19 “And the foundations of the wall of the city were garnished with all manner of precious stones. The first foundation was jasper; the second, sapphire; the third, a chalcedony; the fourth, an emerald;”

Isaiah 8:14 “And he shall be for a sanctuary; but for a stone of stumbling and for a rock of offence to both the houses of Israel, for a gin and for a snare to the inhabitants of Jerusalem.”

1 Peter 2:7-8 “
Unto you therefore which believe he is precious: but unto them which be disobedient, the stone which the builders disallowed, the same is made the head of the corner,[SUP]8 [/SUP]And a stone of stumbling, and a rock of offence, even to them which stumble at the word, being disobedient: whereunto also they were appointed.”

A living stone…
1 Peter 2:1-5 “ Wherefore laying aside all malice, and all guile, and hypocrisies, and envies, and all evil speakings,[SUP]2 [/SUP]As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby:[SUP]3 [/SUP]If so be ye have tasted that the Lord is gracious.[SUP]4 [/SUP]To whom coming, as unto a living stone, disallowed indeed of men, but chosen of God, and precious,[SUP]5 [/SUP]Ye also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, an holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ.”

Amos 9:11-12 “
In that day will I raise up the tabernacle of David that is fallen, and close up the breaches thereof; and I will raise up his ruins, and I will build it as in the days of old:[SUP]12 [/SUP]That they may possess the remnant of Edom, and of all the heathen, which are called by my name, saith the Lord that doeth this.

Acts 15:14-17 “
Simeon hath declared how God at the first did visit the Gentiles, to take out of them a people for his name.[SUP]15 [/SUP]And to this agree the words of the prophets; as it is written,[SUP]16 [/SUP]After this I will return, and will build again the tabernacle of David, which is fallen down; and I will build again the ruins thereof, and I will set it up:[SUP]17 [/SUP]That the residue of men might seek after the Lord, and all the Gentiles, upon whom my name is called, saith the Lord, who doeth all these things.”

The Word of God is that Rock.....

1 Corinthians 10:4 “And did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ.”

The KJV translates Strong's G2776 in the following manner: head (76x).

Bible usage....1. the head, both of men and often of animals.
2 metaph. anything supreme, chief, prominent
3. of persons, master lord: of a husband in relation to his wife
4. of Christ: the Lord of the husband and of the Church
5. of things: the corner stone

Continued next....

epohesians 1:21-223 "FAR ABOVE all principality, and power, and might, and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this world, but also in that which is to come: 22And hath put all things under his feet, and gave him to be the head over all things to the church,23Which is his body, the fulness of him that filleth all in all."

4. of Christ: the Lord of the husband and of the Church

ephesians 5:31-33 "For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall be joined unto his wife, and they two shall be one flesh. 32This is a great mystery: but I speak concerning CHRIST AND THE CHURCH. 33Nevertheless let every one of you in particular so love his wife even as himself; and the wife see that she reverence her husband."

good post

So many full chapter teachings just mowed over and buried under stones...

The very first verse psalm 118, verse 22 is part of the whole song..

1Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good;
his love endures forever.
2Let Israel say:
“His love endures forever.”
3Let the house of Aaron say:
“His love endures forever.”
4Let those who fear the Lord say:
“His love endures forever.”
5When hard pressed, I cried to the Lord;
he brought me into a spacious place.
6The Lord is with me; I will not be afraid.
What can mere mortals do to me?
7The Lord is with me; he is my helper.
I look in triumph on my enemies.
8It is better to take refuge in the Lord
than to trust in humans.
9It is better to take refuge in the Lord
than to trust in princes.
10All the nations surrounded me,
but in the name of the Lord I cut them down.
11They surrounded me on every side,
but in the name of the Lord I cut them down.
12They swarmed around me like bees,
but they were consumed as quickly as burning thorns;
in the name of the Lord I cut them down.
13I was pushed back and about to fall,
but the Lord helped me.
14The Lord is my strength and my defensea ;
he has become my salvation.
15Shouts of joy and victory
resound in the tents of the righteous:
“The Lord’s right hand has done mighty things!
16The Lord’s right hand is lifted high;
the Lord’s right hand has done mighty things!”
17I will not die but live,
and will proclaim what the Lord has done.
18The Lord has chastened me severely,
but he has not given me over to death.
19Open for me the gates of the righteous;
I will enter and give thanks to the Lord.
20This is the gate of the Lord
through which the righteous may enter.
21I will give you thanks, for you answered me;
you have become my salvation.
22The stone the builders rejected
has become the cornerstone;
23the Lord has done this,
and it is marvelous in our eyes.
24The Lord has done it this very day;
let us rejoice today and be glad.
25Lord, save us!
Lord, grant us success!
26Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.
From the house of the Lord we bless you.b
27The Lord is God,
and he has made his light shine on us.
With boughs in hand, join in the festal procession
upc to the horns of the altar.
28You are my God, and I will praise you;
you are my God, and I will exalt you.
29Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good;
his love endures forever.

Here is something that might get some wheels turning for those who can receive it.

Jesus said in John 2:19 "Jesus answered and said unto them, Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up." referring to His Body.

But we also know by scripture that we are also considered the Body of Christ. 1 Corinthians 12:27 "Now ye are the body of Christ, and members in particular. Just as we are like living stones built up to construct a spiritual house. 1 Peter 2:5 Ye also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, an holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ.”

So not only do I believe Jesus was referring to his own physical body being raised up, but also to His spiritual Body, or Temple that would also be rebuilt and then raised back up in 3 spiritual days upon completion.

Like this sign of time here…..

Hosea 6:2 “After two days will he revive us: in the third day he will raise us up, and we shall live in his sight.”

Again notice the wording of raise up…Amos 9:11 “In that day will I raise up the tabernacle of David that is fallen, and close up the breaches thereof; and I will raise up his ruins, and I will build it as in the days of old:”

And this is the same language used concerning the resurrection….

John 6:39 “And this is the Father's will which hath sent me, that of all which he hath given me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up again at the last day.”

And we know construction of this spiritual Temple made of living stones started long ago with the foundation Rock (Chief corner stone) of this Heavenly Temple built by God, and not man. But I believe we are to come to the full measure and stature of the man in order to be made perfect, like Jesus said on the third day in Luke 13:32.

Notice the mention of being made perfect and being made a perfect man, which is coming to the full measure and stature of Christ.

Hebrews 11:40 “
God having provided some better thing for us, that they without us should not be made perfect.”

Ephesians 4:11-13 “
And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers;[SUP]12 [/SUP]For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ:[SUP]13 [/SUP]Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ:”

Paul also shows this growing process to maturity of the Holy Temple here…

Ephesians 2:19-22 “
Now therefore ye are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellow citizens with the saints, and of the household of God;[SUP]20 [/SUP]And are built upon the foundationof the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone;[SUP]21 [/SUP]In whom all the building fitly framed together groweth unto an holy temple in the Lord:[SUP]22 [/SUP]In whom ye also are builded together for an habitation of God through the Spirit.”

So that might make one look at the measurements of the heavenly Temple a little differently. :)

Question - In the verse below is that stone a headstone as in a cap stone at the top of building or is it the Head as in the chief, the main, the greatest or the "head" of all corner stones of a building? Remember, a corner stone is laid in the foundation of a building.

Psalm 118:22
The stone which the builders refused is become the head stone of the corner

1 Corinthians 3:

9 For we are labourers together with God: ye are God's husbandry, ye are God's building.

10 According to the grace of God which is given unto me, as a wise masterbuilder, I have laid the foundation, and another buildeth thereon. But let every man take heed how he buildeth thereupon.

11 For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ.

Nothing greater than to be a laborer together with God!

And, in agreement ... our Lord Jesus Christ is the foundation and the chief corner as stated in Isaiah 28:16 (Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD, Behold, I lay in Zion for a foundation a stone, a tried stone, a precious corner stone, a sure foundation: he that believeth shall not make haste).

"He that believeth shall not make haste" means that those who believe in our Lord Jesus Christ shall not be confused in the difficult situations of life.

Paul also shows this growing process to maturity of the Holy Temple here…

And look what is written in Ephesians 3:

8 Unto me, who am less than the least of all saints, is this grace given, that I should preach among the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ;

9 And to make all men see what is the fellowship of the mystery, which from the beginning of the world hath been hid in God, who created all things by Jesus Christ:

10 To the intent that now unto the principalities and powers in heavenly places might be known by the church the manifold wisdom of God,

11 According to the eternal purpose which he purposed in Christ Jesus our Lord:

This "church" (body of our Lord Jesus Christ) reveals unto principalities and powers in heavenly places that absolutely wonderful, perfect, amazing manifold wisdom of God.

If only we could come to the point where we realize our calling in the Lord Jesus Christ and walk worthy of the call ... not just one or two believers here and there, but the whole body of Christ. How amazing that would be :cool:

From the OP.....

I thought you were trying to say Jesus is the headstone. Like headstone is a title for Him.

Great post good point ive been pressing context for a little like here when the word stone is used differently in psalm 118 the athur is speaking about himself as a stone.. a rock and stone differ a rock is raw material heavy hard to move in solid place a stone comes from rock that has been shaped molded smoothed by human hands or natural means for use in various ways, like a building corner stone for example

God - cornerstone
Jesus - chief cornerstone
Holy spirit - cornerstone
Soul - living stone cornerstone

Can you hear me now? :)
I hear ya loud and clear. You can't see that Jesus is the head ---------------------------------"stone of the corner".
Not the "headstone" ------------------------------------------- of the corner.

john 11;25-27 "Jesus said unto her, I AM the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were DEAD, yet shall he live: 26And whosoever LIVETH and believeth in me shall never die. Believest thou this? 27She saith unto him, Yea, Lord: I believe that thou art the CHRIST, the Son of God, which should come into the world."

matthew 27:50-54 "Jesus, when he had cried again with a loud voice, yielded up the ghost. 51And, behold, the veil of the temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom; and the earth did quake, and the rocks rent; 52And the graves were opened; and many bodies of the saints which slept arose, 53And came out of the graves after his resurrection, and went into the holy city, and appeared unto many. 54Now when the centurion, and they that were with him, watching Jesus, saw the earthquake, and those things that were done, they feared greatly, saying, Truly this was the Son of God."

This seems odd all the fuss that the word stone is use in the same meaning anywhere its mentioned.. a stone builder differs from a stone thrower

What do you think, is Jesus the head "corner stone" or is he the "headstone" of the corner?
