Not long go I received a call inviting me to a "Reveal Party" for a distant relative. I expressed excitement, but also mentioned that I wasn't aware this person was in a relationship to have a child. (I was careful not to mention the dreaded "marriage" word.)

The icy cold response burned my ears and chilled my bones. This was not about a new baby, but was instead an adult sexual identity reveal party. The whole family was invited to come and celebrate this sacred escape. Gifts were welcome but optional.

I had no idea such a thing was even possible.

I keep falling further and further away......

According to tradition (I just made this up on the spot) such an occasion is the only place where a gift of this is considered vogue:
