It was about a couple of weeks ago, when I started to realize that if I controlled what I said, I could control what I thought, and if I could control what I thought about, I would be less tempted to act on whatever thoughts breeze through my mind.

In a sense, our words build up and tear down. As Christians we have a responsibility to build up and bless the people in our lives. But even if in our own private conversations we are being selfish or crude or something it is still destructive. Its still not right if we do it in the privacy of our own houses, or among friends.

YES! VERY MUCH SOO! I live by myself and dont see much of people .So when I do, my bipolor disorder kicks in and ellovates my happy mood into euphoria. Then I start talking real fast and loud and my mouth just runs on and on. The term for this is called HYPER VERBAL. This is something new that just started with me. Im trying to pay attention when I talk and slow down. If I dont get this under control by the 11th when I see my doctor Im going to have to tell him. And if I tell him that means he may adjust my meds to make my happy feelings go away . I dont want that because its a naturel high of releif from my depression. This only happens when I see people I know and talk to them over the phone. You may want to ask me if I dont want the euphoria to go away why tell the doctor? Its like this, If I wont be honest with the doctor how is he going to treat me properly? I dont want to end up in a mentel ward in a staight jacket laughing like a fool. And when people are euphoric or in a happy manic mood they can do things that will end themselfs in jail. Like shoplifting and have black outs. Some manic bipolors end up on a sex bindgs. Im sure you can imagine all the problems this kind of behaior will bring. So my plan is to turn the extremely happy drama down and if I cant by the 11th my problem gos into the hands of my doctor.

Catwoman, at first I thought that was wonderful! I wish I could have that disorder myself for awhile because I am so quiet around other people that I am literally afraid to talk. I will sit there and try to convince myself to say something but it almost always fails. Did you read about the lithium orotate that I mentioned in another thread? I wouldn't recommend it if it sounded like a scam or just someone trying to sell something. I wish you could hear what he said about depression medications too. They work initially, but then they actually do more harm than good.

One thing I have been trying to do when I'm upset about something, which is usually when I'm least likely to guard my tongue, is to try and understand why a person did the thing they did or why a negative situation happened. I ask myself whether I played any part in it, even unknowingly. It has really helped to place my focus on understanding rather than running my mouth, reacting in anger and saying/doing things I know I will regret.

Catwoman, sounds like you are making tremendous headway in confronting your situation. Praise God :)

And, Gabe, I'm a very quiet person offline as well. I'm learning that this is okay and that I don't have to say anything just to be saying something just because other people expect me to. :)

My pastor is on me all the time saying that I need to talk more :)

I guess I have a gift of not wanting to say stuff.

Kind of off the topic, but this reminds me of someone I know who truly believes he has the 'spiritual gift of criticism'.

He will go to the Pastor after the sermon and tell him what was wrong with his sermon, and just generally tell people what's wrong with them, and he TRULY believes God has given him the gift of 'criticism'

It probably is a gift...just not from God :p

i am convinced mine just doesn't work. it seems to forget words halfway through....

Out of the mouth spews forth the contents of the heart. I think all of us can work in this area to one degree or another. It is the human condition.

:):) IT WOULD BE GREAT IF A TOOL WOULD BE DEVISED TO LIKE PUT IT ON A SNAP IT LIKE A MUZZEL. THERE WOULD BE A LOT LESS FIGHTING, JUDGING AND CRITISING. I KNOW THE LORD KNEW WHAT HE DID WHEN HE CREATED US. TO USE OUR WORDS AND THE TONGUE TO SPEAK KINDLY. THERE ARE TOOLS USED AGAINST US, NOT FROM OUR GOD, WHEN AGGITATED TO SAY SOMETHING NEGATIVE OR HURTFULL, SELF CONTROL IS ONE OF THE FRUITS. I DON'T THINK THE TONGUE IS THE PROBLEM HERE, IF ONE DIDN'T HAVE A TONGUE HE PROBABLY WOULD US ANOTHER MEANS OF COMMUNICATING HIS EMOTIONS, MAYBE PHYSICAL COMBAT. I THINK THE TONGUE IS A GIFT FROM GOD ALONG WITH THE OTHER BODY PARTS, I THINK THE PROBLEM IS ONE'S SPIRIT, LIKE A FLOWING RIVER, FROM THE HEART TO THE MIND FROM THE MIND TO THE MOUTH FROM THE MOUTH TO THE PERSON, LET'S BE KIND AND SWEET. LUV YA :p:p

I probably shouldn't't say something like this but, Katy's above thought spurs my green brains forward. :D

Let me tell you a story: I was in my pastor's college/singles group way back when, LOL, when I was 23 . And, that was a couple years and then I left group and came back at 27 and he was pastor then of cillege/singles group .

Anyway, and, sorry, julieannie, I am effectively derailing your fine thread, please place total blame on my green brains :D , anyway, as I was saying before I rudely interrupted myself, this singles pastor , same age as me exactly but we were never like buddy-buddy, became pastor of the entire 10,000 attendance (3 Sunday services) church when we were both 39. and thus is where I finally get to the 'gift of criticism.'

I always listened to sermons of this pastor this time back 4+ years ago now, and I have 'editor' in me from my work and ecucation background, so, I listened to one sermón , in particular, and, sent up afterward, and, said a way this pastor could have said the sermón more powerfully.

He loojed at me and said, 'Great, green, that would be good.' Can't recall specifically what I said but it was said in positivism and so I could tell of another pastor, too, that I came up to and both praised his message and at same time offered new way to say it and he laughed with me on it. (No, not at me).

So, we can use our tongues in positive ways to help others. There are many gifts out there , from peacemaker to exhorter to encourager to giver, etc. These are all gifts from the Holy Spirit freely given us, to each different gifts given, to glory Him, and, bless you, and we definitely use our TONGUE to sweeten people's lives in so using these God-given, Spirit gifts :)

So, use our tongues, I said, so , nah :p. , I am not derailing this yet another done, super-done, julieannie thread :D
