Luke 1:5-6 In the days of Herod, king of Judea, there was a priest named Zechariah, of the division of Abijah. And he had a wife from the daughters of Aaron, and her name was Elizabeth. 6 And they were both righteous before God, walking blamelessly in all the commandments and statutes of the Lord.

Isaiah 51:7 “Listen to me, you who know righteousness, the people in whose heart is my law; fear not the reproach of man, nor be dismayed at their revilings.

1 John 3:7 Little children, let no one deceive you. Whoever practices righteousness is righteous, as he is righteous.

Habakkuk 2:4 “Behold, his soul is puffed up; it is not upright within him, but the righteous shall live by his faith.

Works can be done for a variety of reasons, so the Bible can speak against being required to do works for incorrect reasons such as in order to earn our righteousness as the result without speaking against being required to do works for correct reasons such as in order to embody our faith (James 2:18). We can’t earn our righteousness even as the result of having perfect obedience to the Law of God because it was never given as a way of doing that in the first place (Romans 4:1-5), but rather the significance of our obedience to it is that it is the way to embody our faith, and it is by that faith alone apart from works done in order to earn it that we are declared righteous. In Romans 3:21-22, the only way to become righteous that is testified about in the Law and the Prophets is through faith in Christ for all who believe. Paul also affirmed in Romans 2:13 that only the doers of the law will be declared righteous, so there is a reason why our righteousness requires us to choose to be a doer of it other than in order to earn it as wage, namely faith insofar as the faith by which we are declared righteous apart from works also upholds the Law of God (Roman 3:28-31). The Law of Moses was given to describe the life of someone who is righteous as it describes the life of Christ, so it is what we get to experience being a doer of by being given the gift of righteousness through faith, which is why the righteous shall live by his faith.

Does the Mosaic Law describe the way that the righteous live as it describes the life of Christ?

No, it doesn't. The law only tells half the story. The law says murder is sin; Christ said hate is the same as murder. The law says adultery is sin; Christ said lust is the same as adultery. Righteousness is not in the law; the righteousness of Christ goes above and beyond the law. Therefore, we are no longer under law, but under Christ.

"For I say to you, that unless your righteousness exceeds the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, you will by no means enter the kingdom of heaven." Matthew 5:20

For as many as are of the works of the law are under the curse: for it is written, Cursed is every one that continueth not in all things which are written in the book of the law to do them. Galatians 3:10

No, it doesn't. The law only tells half the story.
Christ set a sinless example for us to follow of how to walk in obedience to the Law of Moses so how can you deny that it describes the life of Christ? Even if it were true that it only tells half the story, then it would still describe the life of Christ to that extent.

The law says murder is sin; Christ said hate is the same as murder. The law says adultery is sin; Christ said lust is the same as adultery. Righteousness is not in the law; the righteousness of Christ goes above and beyond the law. Therefore, we are no longer under law, but under Christ.

In Matthew 4, Jesus preceded a quote from what was written by saying "it is written....", but in Matthew 5 he preceded a quote from what the people had heard being said by saying "you have heard that it was said....", so his emphasis on the different form of communication is important. Jesus was not sinning in violation of Deuteronomy 4:2 by making changes to what was written, but rather he was fulfilling the law by correcting what the people had heard being said and by teaching how to correctly obey it as it was originally intended.

For example, we are commanded not to hate our brother in Leviticus 19:17, so Jesus was no teaching anything brand new in disagreement with what the Father had commanded. If we correctly understand what is being commanded by the 7th and 10th Commandments against committing adultery and coveting in our hearts, then we won't lust after a married woman in our hearts, so Jesus was not teaching anything that goes beyond the law. The reason why our righteousness need to exceed that of the Pharisees was because they were not correctly teaching how to obey the Law of God.

For as many as are of the works of the law are under the curse: for it is written, Cursed is every one that continueth not in all things which are written in the book of the law to do them. Galatians 3:10
According to Deuteronomy 27-30, the way to be blessed is by relying on he Book of the Law while the way to be cursed is by not relying on it, so Galatians 3:10 should not be interpreted a quoting from that passage in order to support a point that is arguing the opposite of that passage. Rather, the fact that cursed is everyone who does not continue to do everything in the Book of the Law straightforwardly means that the way to avoid being cursed is by continuing to do everything in the Book of the Law, which is why all those who rely on works of the law instead come under that curse. God is trustworthy, therefore His instructions are also trustworthy (Psalm 19:7), so the way to rely on God is by obediently relying on His instructions and it would be contradictory to think that we should rely on God but not on His instructions. I'm not sure what that verse has to do when the issue of whether the Law of Moses describes the way that the righteous live as it describes the life of Christ.

And so, another post begins where one side that we need to emphasize this aspect of scripture and the other side says no, we need to emphasize that side. Satan must love such. All he has to do is whisper in a couple ears and let human nature take over because most people cannot distinguish a subtle twist to scripture and even fewer can recognize when a demon is playing holy spirit.

I believe that all of the Bible is true and that no part of Scripture should be interpreted in a way that contradicts or ignores other parts of Scripture. I think that a large part of the misunderstanding of what the Bible says about righteousness comes from the failure to distinguish between what it says about the way to become righteous and the way to live righteously. For example, a way to live righteously is by being a doer of charity, but no amount of charity will ever cause someone to become righteous as the result. Rather, the only way for someone to become righteous is through faith apart from being required to have first done enough righteous works in order to earn it as the result, but part of what it means to become righteous is to become a doer of charity.

No matter how you slice it, righteousness can't be attained through the law. You're fighting a losing battle.

"For I through the law died to the law that I might live to God. I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me. I do not set aside the grace of God; for if righteousness comes through the law, then Christ died in vain." Galatians 2:19-21

When the scripture “ Moses wrote of Jesus “ it’s not talking about the lee he gave to the children of Israel it’s talking about the prophetic things he said and did foretelling Christ . Like this

“I will raise them up a Prophet from among their brethren, like unto thee, and will put my words in his mouth; and he shall speak unto them all that I shall command him. And it shall come to pass, that whosoever will not hearken unto my words which he shall speak in my name, I will require it of him.”
‭‭Deuteronomy‬ ‭18:18-19‬ ‭KJV‬‬

He’s talking about Jesus

“For Moses truly said unto the fathers, A prophet shall the Lord your God raise up unto you of your brethren, like unto me; him shall ye hear in all things whatsoever he shall say unto you. And it shall come to pass, that every soul, which will not hear that prophet, shall be destroyed from among the people. Yea, and all the prophets from Samuel and those that follow after, as many as have spoken, have likewise foretold of these days. Unto you first God, having raised up his Son Jesus, sent him to bless you, in turning away every one of you from his iniquities.”
‭‭Acts‬ ‭3:22-24, 26‬ ‭KJV‬‬

“He that rejecteth me, and receiveth not my words, hath one that judgeth him: the word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day. For I have not spoken of myself; but the Father which sent me, he gave me a commandment, what I should say, and what I should speak. And I know that his commandment is life everlasting: whatsoever I speak therefore, even as the Father said unto me, so I speak.”

All the law can do is give you a knowledge of sin that's why it's there.

There is zero righteousness in the law.

All the law can do is give you a knowledge of sin that's why it's there.

There is zero righteousness in the law
it’s there to define and gove the knowledge of sin and also to impute every transgression upon the sinner holding them guilty before God without excuse

The righteousness is found in the gospel

“But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.”
‭‭Matthew‬ ‭6:33‬ ‭KJV‬‬

I said in the OP that we can earn our righteousness even as the result of having perfect obedience to the Law of God because it was never given as a way of doing that in the first place (Romans 4:1-5), so I completely agree that righteousness can't be attained as the result of obeying the Law of God, but rathe the issue that wanting to discuss in this thread is what describes the way that those are righteous live.

All the law can do is give you a knowledge of sin that's why it's there.

There is zero righteousness in the law.
Sin is what is contrary to God's character traits, so the Law of God can't just teach us how to refrain from doing what unrighteousness without also teaching us how to do what is righteous by contrast. For example, the Law of God reveals that it is righteous to be a doer of charity, but no amount of charity will cause someone to become righteous as the result, rather the only way to become righteous is through faith, and part of what it means to become righteous is to become a doer of charity.

“Now we know that what things soever the law saith, it saith to them who are under the law: that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty before God. Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin.”

The only way to attain righteousness and the other character traits of God is through faith, but the way that someone who has attained the character traits lives is in obedience to the Law of Moses in accordance with with the example of the way that the Son lived, who is the radiance of God's glory and the exact likeness of His character (Hebrews 1:3).

“For as many as are of the works of the law are under the curse: for it is written, Cursed is every one that continueth not in all things which are written in the book of the law to do them.

Jesus is God's Word made flesh, so Moses wrote about him because he embodied what Moses wrote setting a sinless example for us to follow of how to walk in obedience to it, which is why it leads us to him. The reason that God's Word leads us to God's Word made flesh is not so that we can then reject God's Word and go back to being doers of what it reveals to be wickedness. In Acts 3:25-26, Jesus came as the promised seed not to curse us by freeing us to become doers of what the God's Word reveals to be wickedness but to bless us by turning us from it (Acts 3:25-26).

‭‭John‬ ‭12:48-50‬ ‭KJV‬‬
Likewise, in John 14:23-24, Jesus said that if we love him, then we will obey his teachings, if we don't love him, then we will not obey his teachings, and that his teachings were not his own but that of the Father, so he was in complete agreement with the commands that the Father has taught and did not teach his own set of laws in disagreement with what He has taught.

Following Torah, often mistranslated as "law", even in the Greek due to misunderstandings, was never meant to be a path to righteousness. It was rather teachings, the proper understanding of the term, to show people their shortcomings, just as Paul states. But such does not mean that Torah should be ignored, its value as teachings, actually a form of grace, still stands in post-resurrection Grace and is ignored at one's peril.

"Torah" means "instruction", though instructions that we are obliged to follow are laws. I agree that the Torah was never given as a way to become righteous as the result of our obedience, but rather it was given to describe the way that a righteous person lives as it describes the life of Christ.

If I were to teach someone what it means to be courageous, then I could give them a number of examples of people doing courageous works from which they could abstract a principle of courageousness. However, they are not required to have first done enough courageous works in order to become courageous as the result, but rather the only way for them to become courageous is by believing they they ought to be courageous apart from those works and by becoming courageous they are becoming a doer of courageous works in accordance with the examples that I gave them. The examples were not given as a way of becoming courageous but to describe the way that a courageous person lives and the same is true for righteousness and every other character trait.

Righteousness and unrighteousness are two sides of the same coin, so the Torah can't reveal our unrighteousness without also teaching us how to live righteously by contrast. If the Torah did not teach us how to embody the trait of righteousness, then it could not accurately be described as righteous (Romans 7:12).

“Sin is what is contrary to God's character traits and the Law of Moses was given in order to teach us how to embody God's character traits,”

thats what your saying , this is what an apostle of Jesus taught

“Now we know that what things soever the law saith, it saith to them who are under the law: that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty before God.

Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight
:

for by the law is the knowledge of sin.”
‭‭Romans‬ ‭3:19-20‬ ‭KJV‬‬

You’re missing an important factor regarding the law and why it’s contrary paul touches on it right here

“Wherefore then serveth the law? It was added because of transgressions, till the seed should come to whom the promise was made; and it was ordained by angels in the hand of a mediator.

Now a mediator is not a mediator of one,

but God is one.”
‭‭Galatians‬ ‭3:19-

Let’s look at the ordination of angels over the law that Paul’s touching on
this angel and his unforgiving dispostion was ordaining the law representing and bearing the name of the lord. So this particular dospostion shapes the law of Moses

“Behold, I send an Angel before thee, to keep thee in the way, and to bring thee into the place which I have prepared. Beware of him, and obey his voice, provoke him not; for he will not pardon your transgressions: for my name is in him. But if thou shalt indeed obey his voice,

and do all that I speak; then I will be an enemy unto thine enemies, and an adversary unto thine adversaries.”
‭‭Exodus‬ ‭23:20-22‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Whereas the gospel and Jesus Christ the Lord himself , that’s the opposite or “contrary “ function he promises to pardon our transgressions so you would never see Jesus teach this in the gospel for instance

“And while the children of Israel were in the wilderness, they found a man that gathered sticks upon the sabbath day. And the LORD said unto Moses, The man shall be surely put to death: all the congregation shall stone him with stones without the camp. And all the congregation brought him without the camp, and stoned him with stones, and he died; as the LORD commanded Moses.”
‭‭Numbers‬ ‭15:32,

remember who’s bearing the name of the lord here though and his disposition

“Beware of him, and obey his voice, provoke him not; for he will not pardon your transgressions:
for my name is in him“

And so you see how you have the contrary thing that Jesus would never command Christian’s to do. They were taught “ have no pity on the transgressor they must be held to account by the others show no mercy to the sinners “

Can you imagine Jesus teaching us Christian’s this regarding a young woman who has been found to have had pre marital sex ?

“But if this thing be true, and the tokens of virginity be not found for the damsel: then they shall bring out the damsel to the door of her father's house, and the men of her city shall stone her with stones that she die: because she hath wrought folly in Israel, to play the whore in her father's house: so shalt thou put evil away from among you.”
‭‭Deuteronomy‬ ‭22:20-21‬ ‭KJV‬‬

I hope your seeing my point the law is of God , it doesn’t serve the same purpose for mankind as the gospel they aren’t the same , they aren’t different forms of each other they are two different covenants for two different purposes they be brings man to guilt before god giving them the knowledge of sin and giver own sinfulness.

the other comes to that sinner who’s now aware they are a guilty sinner and have fallen short and need a savior . To redeem them from the power of sin over them , to give them a new start with a new and better living way to worship and belong to God and be given much better promises than they ever were under the law

It’s simple to just compare the things Moses taught with the things Jesus taught his disciples . What you find is that they are very contrary. The reason is pretty well explained in Paul’s writings and the book of acts and of course one needs to read the events surrounding the law that oauo is discussing like the ordination of angels and disposition the law was given by and through

“Which of the prophets have not your fathers persecuted? and they have slain them which shewed before of the coming of the Just One; of whom ye have been now the betrayers and murderers: who have received the law by the disposition of angels, ( he will not pardon ) and have not kept it.”
‭‭Acts‬ ‭7:51, 53‬ ‭KJV‬‬

It’s a different word because of the disposition one testament is made to make mankind aware of thier sin …the other is to offer repentance and remission of sins and to create people in the image of Jesus Christ his son

It has great value as all scripture does because it witnesses and foretells of Jesus Christ and his kingdom like the prophets do.

“And when they had appointed him a day, there came many to him into his lodging; to whom he expounded and testified the kingdom of God, persuading them concerning Jesus, both out of the law of Moses, and out of the prophets, from morning till evening.”
‭‭Acts‬ ‭28:23‬ ‭KJV‬‬

“Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me.”
‭‭John‬ ‭5:39‬ ‭KJV‬‬

“And he said unto them, These are the words which I spake unto you, while I was yet with you, that all things must be fulfilled, which were written in the law of Moses, and in the prophets, and in the psalms, concerning me.”
‭‭Luke‬ ‭24:44‬ ‭KJV‬‬

The law of Moses has a prophetic element pertaining to Jesus christ like a witness

“But now the righteousness of God without the law is manifested,

being witnessed by the law and the prophets;”
‭‭Romans‬ ‭3:21‬ ‭

But his righteousness , is found in the gospel

“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek. For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith.”
‭‭Romans‬ ‭1:16-17‬ ‭KJV‬‬

However the law is not of faith and cannot justify , redeem , save a soul or make sinners righteous

“But that no man is justified by the law in the sight of God, it is evident: for, The just shall live by faith. And the law is not of faith: but, The man that doeth them shall live in them.”
‭‭Galatians‬ ‭3:11-12‬ ‭KJV‬‬
