The Writing Is On The Wall (Or Is It?!) Let's Have a Very Controversial Conversation About Handwriting!

* Do you like or loathe your own handwriting? Why or why not? Do you still write things by hand, or has it pretty much gone the way of the dinosaur?

Guess I am a dinosaur
I like handwriting (and mostly think my writing is just okay, but then again, I wish I could write more pretty).. and it helps me to remember better, for example, a grocery list, if I write it by hand, then I happen to lose it somewhere.. I can pretty much recall items in it.

I never was a good handwriter at school, there were other girls who had the most beautiful hand writing.. so neat, round and even letters! I only wished to write like that.

I feel like children should at least be taught to handwrite! And I kind of like the idea of cursive to still be in schools. Now they are just taking extra courses for it, because the kids feel like it is cool to write in cursive.
Writing stuff by hand and old school books to learn from would calm kids, that is what I think..



Sometimes I also do have papers I am unable to tell what an earth I wrote there before.. hopefully nothing important


Signing documents by hand, if only I had a fancy style to write my name! I would like that..

My opinion?
There will be a prophetic hand writing an urgent message on the wall....

However, since the writing will be done in cursive nobody will be able to read it until they grab a Gen X person to read it to them.

I find typography interesting, like all the different fonts that you can find on your computer.
It used to be, you would use a lettering book and trace or copy the letters if you wanted your words to stand out.

When typing essays, university would specify it had to be in Times Roman, 12 pt with 1.5 spacing. You couldn't use, say Comic Sans or type it all in caps or bold.

When I printed my letters by hand, people used to say I had typewriter writing. lol.
My dad did have a typewriter and was still using it up to the time computers and printers became cheaper and accessible. We also called the electronic typewriters 'word processors' . This type of medium has now gone the way of the dodo.
You cannot buy typewriters nowadays or the ribbons for them

It would take me ages to type things on a typewriter as you had to press down on the keys hard and making the change to caps required almost like a gear shift. Also feeding the paper in, returning the carriage with the handle, and then making sure the spacing is correct. All these things are now automatically done on a computer.

Oh and they were NOISY. The clatter of the keys...if you ever seen the movie 9 to 5 and heard the song..the clacking of the keys is the sound made especially if you had long fingernails. Secretaries would be tested on how many WPM (words per minute) they could type.
Of course this would have been obvious to anyone who lived in that era, but for the young these days, it would have been completely foreign to them. And now I feel OLD.
Times have sure changed.

You have very clear and readable handwriting . I also had to learn cursive in school. In grades 5 and 6, we had a biology teacher who made us write a lot and at a way to quick pace. We all ended up with hand cramps, and it was difficult to keep up with the pace and form each letter properly. As a result, my cursive handwriting deteriorated and became hard to read. When I started 7th grade, we were allowed to drop the cursive, so I chose to develop a new more readable handwriting.
