Regardless what happens in church the outside world would probably consider it foolishness and a waste of time.
The preacher forgot to come in early and turn the A/C on, poor girl.
Anyhow, what's your opinions on singles meetings as a church program?
On one hand Christians by have a place to meet other Christians, but on the other it's not really the purpose of the church.
Someone shouldn't go to church for the purpose of meeting someone else, but for the purpose of worshipping God. But the church should care because that is the start of families- which God instituted. But there's a fine line- they should encourage looking for a godly mate, and having the traits of a godly mate, but not play matchmaker for two specific people to get to together.
Because making them feel like they should over-rides chemistry- which causes the love that bonds a marriage. You don't want them to marry out of a sense of duty. But what if someone goes to all these premarital classes and never gets married- isn't that setting them up for heartache?
They tried to start a singles group in a congregation I once attended. So I agreed to join, even though there was a guy in it I really did not like. It started with only three of us, but I thought maybe other congregations would join in, and maybe I'll meet someone.
So I was sitting down to dinner, with our super small singles group, and that guy I didn't like took my hand from across the table, and started to stroke it. I pulled my hand back, but he held it tightly and wouldn't let me go. I firmly said "Stop!" and pried my hand away. That was it for me and singles groups.
Rapest and stalkers are probably good reasons not to have singles meetings too.
I don't abvocate slaping at church functions, it would've been understandable if you did. Lol.
That's a false logic. By that logic socialization of any kind should be avoided. Even online. Someone could just as easily become a victim of a stalker in social media by someone they've never spoken to. Or there are cases of someone being stalked by a person they haven't spoken to in 10 years.
This is using a fear based tactic to back up your belief, even though there are many other, more common, sources that have a much greater chance of meeting such a person. Wisdom does not go hand in hand with fear. People should be able, and expected, to live their lives without second guessing their every move due to fear.
I'm just looking at the risk that may go along with with singles meeting. I'm not imposing my believe that singles meetings are improper.
Now if I were a sexual predator I would look for single women that might live alone meeting in an environment where I could be trusted easily by saying I'm a Christian.
But still, rapest and staklers aren't the main concern about singles meetings in a church.
I met my wife in church. A church I was visiting for the first time. We sat outside that church on a picnic table and talked till midnight that very first night. We married a year and a half later.
And, I was not a Christian when we met.
When I was younger meeting somebody could be that exiting and special. It seems like that does not exist any more in todays world.
