As someone who has dealt with mental illness for pretty much my entire adult life. Does anyone know of anything on thought disorders and how to improve the health of someone with a thought disorder, such as bipolar disorder?

Yes. Bipolar Disorder is classified as a Mood Disorder. This will affect your thoughts. If you haven't already seen a psychiatrist or mental health professional, it may be a good start so you can receive the correct diagnosis and treatment. Treatment may include medication to help your mood as well as counseling. Often people who struggle with neurodivergence, also self-medicate and end up with addictions.(I don't like the negativity associated with the word mental illness, since many "mental illnesses" are often caused by brain abnormalities. I prefer the word neurodivergence as Autism is now called.) Most certainly prayer will help as you seek Jesus in your thoughts. Jesus said, "come to me, all who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light".
Matthew 11:28-30.

I wish you the best and pray your mental health improves through God's grace and love. Nothing I have written herewith should be considered medical advice. Rather, spiritual help. Please seek professional help if you feel it is necessary.

Thank you, I’ve been seeing a nurse practitioner for a few months and psychiatrist before that for about 14 years. Just got rediagnosed to bipolar a few months ago and so ever since that happened, my nurse practitioner has been weaning me off of my previous antipsychotic medication and is going to put me on a new one without the weight gain side effect. Not sure if the newer medication is going to be similar to what the previous medication was doing or better. I also have been seeing a therapist for about a year now. I was seeing her twice a week but we just dropped it down to once a week from here on out because I don’t have much to talk about.

Have you considered dealing with this issue through fasting and prayer?

You know, one think that really worked for me in the past, that i’d like to implement in the near future is the ketogenic diet with intermittent fasting on low calories, along with walking.

Maybe if I did more prayer but I feel like I’ve prayed so much about it, that God gets it and is probably having me wait on His perfect timing. 14 years ago I was diagnosed with schizophrenia even though I didn’t even hear voices or see things that weren’t there. 5 years after that, because I was doing so well, working as a server at the Olive Garden, then accepting Jesus as my lord and savior, i was then diagnosed schizoaffective. Then 9 years after that, after having a Christian therapist for a year who took the time to get to know me, she realized that I don’t have schizoaffective either because her brother has real schizoaffective disorder. We found out I have a mood/thought disorder called bipolar disorder, which I’d rather be diagnosed that than schizo anything.

i understand that that isn’t my identity and my identity is in Christ, so hopefully I could just continue to heal over time, like I have been, and make a real effort to get in some kind of physical shape, though I know spiritual health is wayyy more important.

In the past I've suffered all kinds of thought disorders. What worked for me was dedicating my life to the Lord, studying His word, learning His ways. Everything we've been taught by the world is wrong and backwards. If you follow Him and leave the world behind you will start to see sanity returning.

I dedicated my life to the lord ten years ago, started reading scripture almost daily for the last two years. Completed the NIV Bible on audio, completed the ESV Bible by reading it, the New Testament multiple times, I’ve read hundreds of devotionals, I’ve prayed every day, I’ve written hundredis of prayers, I’ve read a lot of the NIV bible out loud, I’ve listened to worship music almost daily, I’ve listened to hundreds of Christian podcasts, I’ve stopped working and driving anywhere for an entire year to focus on God, I’ve lost all of my friends for God, I lost my life for God and Jesus has taken over for God.

i may sound angry but I’m actually at peace. I understand God is in control but some times I wonder how I got here.

if an Unbeliever saw the life I lived before I gave my life to Christ, he wouldn’t understand why I traded the life I was living to commit my life to Christ. I thought I had it all but it was nothing compared to the Holy Spirit that resides in me. Now I have Gods hand on me. Still working out some worldly things such as medication. God provides and protects me but every now and then, I get to thinking if this is all there is? And I wish I didn’t have those thoughts.

Maybe it’s a lack of prayer life I think to myself.

What do you mean exactly by "I get to thinking if this is all there is?" What is "this"; and what do you feel is missing?

I think I might be over sharing online again.
If all you want is support, then by all means I support you and will pray for His best for you. Talking things out with someone can sometimes help; but if you don't want to that's cool.

Sometimes I just don’t feel safe, cause I have had things i’ve said in public, done in private that God forgave me for or things I’ve done before I was a follower of Jesus used against me, even by people who I thought had my best interest at heart.

i look forward to being able to trust God more. My apologies.
You're self-reflecting on some challenges you're having, and that alone is huge! No one currently on this earth has lived a perfect life. As far as things you've done in the past, God forgave you for those, and you should cast those thoughts and doubts aside as well. That doesn't mean don't learn from them, but you're forgiven for them. I think no matter how close you are with God, there will always be moments you feel a little lost and have questions. I believe that is pretty typical.

There certainly isn't a one size fits all with this stuff. For me personally, I feel as though I need to spend more time in prayer than the average person. I also listen to the Christian music stations and podcasts. However, for me, if I'm not in relatively constant conversation with God, I lose my focus. I pray you find something that works well for you and keeps you out of that doubtful mindset.

Constant conversation with God sounds nice. I just started to get more privacy recently, so seems like perfect timing to give it a shot, again. Most of the time I can’t tell if God is telling me something or if it is just me thinking.

My emotions tend to be overwhelming, like all day!

i’m 36, a stay at home son, no kids, never married, previous and maybe even present day lady killer (don’t really know anymore)
