in the OT the tithe was an income tax. it was not even money, it was 10 % of all you have given to the levites who were not allowed to work.

it is not required in the NT, however, I think we should give sacrificially, if it does not hurt some we are not giving enough.

Malachi 3:10-12 is also a conditional promise. It is not required that you keep the condition (though if you don't it says you are robbing God, Malachi 3:9), but if you want the benefits of the promise you will fulfill the condition of the promise.

I agree........

Tithing is Biblical, and from what I understand so far, it was 10 % of what we have, not what we hope to have.

The problem I see about this is not the tithe, its with the people tithing .

You have good church's and bad church's .Lets called these churches trees producing fruit . Some are edible, some are so bad, they cannot be eaten .

Lets say these fruit are figs, there are two kinds of figs male figs, which are not edible ,they taste bad, then there are the female figs, which are edible, like the Smyrna fig tree.

And lets compare the tithing church members to little fig wasps; the way the fig's are pollinated.

The wasp files to the nearest fig ; that is giving off chemical signals released when it's ready for pollination, and enters the fig , while it also lays its eggs there, in the process it losses its wings and antenna .

The fig wasp can't tell the difference between the good or the bad fig. You can blame the stupid wasp, for allowing the bad fig to get its start and continue with the little eggs that begin to hatch from the bad fig, and the cycle continues .

You have to mature where your fed ALL, of God's Word, as it is presented word for word, chapter by chapter an verse by verse in the Bible .

Anything less, is a bad fruit. And if you support that, look what Christ said of some of those bad churches in Revelation . There was only two kinds that are going to make it. And those two are Not waiting to be flown away in rapture.

If your tithing to a church Christ is going to fight against, your not going to be blessed for that.

Malachi 3 was not speaking of a tithe of money. Nor was it a command to the Church to tithe.

Malachi 3:6 For I am the LORD, I change not; therefore ye sons of Jacob are not consumed.

The Levites had the command to bring the tithe to the storehouse. As they did in Nehemiah 10.

Nehemiah 10:37-38 And that we should bring the firstfruits of our dough, and our offerings, and the fruit of all manner of trees, of wine and of oil, unto the priests, to the chambers of the house of our God; and the tithes of our ground unto the Levites, that the same Levites might have the tithes in all the cities of our tillage. And the priest the son of Aaron shall be with the Levites, when the Levites take tithes: and the Levites shall bring up the tithe of the tithes unto the house of our God, to the chambers, into the treasure house.

And those tithes were the tithes commanded in the Law of Moses; i.e., agricultural tithes.

Leviticus 27:30-33 And all the tithe of the land, whether of the seed of the land, or of the fruit of the tree, is the LORD'S: it is holy unto the LORD. And if a man will at all redeem ought of his tithes, he shall add thereto the fifth part thereof. And concerning the tithe of the herd, or of the flock, even of whatsoever passeth under the rod, the tenth shall be holy unto the LORD. He shall not search whether it be good or bad, neither shall he change it: and if he change it at all, then both it and the change thereof shall be holy; it shall not be redeemed.

So many today teach a doctrine that is totally foreign to Scripture. God never required tithes of any other nation or people than Israel and its inhabitants. The Apostles never taught the tithe of money, Jesus never taught the tithe of money. The monetary tithe requirement doctrine is a commandment formulated outside of the boundaries of the Word of God.

Matthew 15:9 But in vain they do worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men.

Funny thing, my mother tithed to the Church for more than half a century and always stayed poor. Worked hard to put food on the table for five children left without a father when he drowned in the Mediterranean Sea on Christmas day 1960 in a Scupba Diving accident.

The promise in Malachi 3 said that the tithers would be blessed with so much that there would not be room to contain it. Mother never saw that.

Proof that the monetary tithe requirement doctrine is not of God. God always keeps His promises.

God's command was for the tithe to go to the storehouse.

What storehouse? The storehouse in Jerusalem.

There is not one Church in this world that is the storehouse. Not one person is obeying God concerning the tithe. They can't. The Temple storehouse where God's Word said the tithe was to go to is no longer standing. And He never commanded tithes to go anywhere else.

Matthew 15:9 But in vain they do worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men.

StandingFirminChrist, if you don't want to tithe that is your prerogative, see Ezekiel 3:27. The word of God applies to everyone, not just the sons of Jacob. I'm sure your mother is going to see an incredible blessing when she gets to heaven and is able to fellowship with all of the people that got saved as a result of her sacrificial giving. Not to mention the mansion God is going to give her! Lay up your treasures in heaven...Matthew 6:20-22.

Also, Abraham tithed to Melchizedek, and Jesus is a priest according to the order of Melchizedek. Therefore we ought to tithe to Jesus. Read it in Hebrews 7.

Then see 1 Peter 2:9.

The promise of Malachi 3 was not for blessings in Heaven. Read the passage again.

I do not tithe because I am not commanded to tithe. Tithing was a command under the Law. Unless you can keep all of the Law, it is best not to attempt to keep any of the Law.

Abram did tithe to Melchisedec. I know that. But what did he tithe? His own assets? His own property? Nope. He tithed the spoils of war. And he had promised God that he would not take any of the spoils as his own property.

Abram was following a Babylonian custom that dates back 287 years prior to Abram's encounter with Melchisedec. The practice of tithing war spoils to kings and dignitaries. The British Museum has stone tablets that show this practice dating as early as 2200 B.C.

Show me the command in Scripture to tithe money and I will be the first to write a check to the Church next week. If you can't produce the Scripture, don't tell me I'm wrong.

The promise of Malachi 3:10-12 is revival, not an earthly return of monies.
The promise was not revival. It was an increase in crops. Read the passage again.

God promised rain for the fields.
He promised to hold back the locusts from eating the crops.

He promised an abundance of harvest so big there would not be room to keep it all.

See 1 Peter 2:9?

1 Peter 2:9 But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light:

We are a royal priesthood, eh? I believe it and receive it. What I don't receive, is the doctrine of the monetary tithe requirement. It is taught nowhere in Scripture but is the invention of man. (see Psalm 106:39 )

Sorry, I guess I spiritualized it. Does apply if you do it that way...at any rate, it is not a promise that God is going to pour money into your lap, like you think it should have been for your mother.

I don't believe Malachi is a promise for money to be poured into the lap either.

But it is clear that the promise associated with the command in Malachi is not spiritual blessings. It is clearly material. Harvest in abundance.

Now you're saying that tithing is akin to whoring, (since you referenced Psalm 106:39) it is not, it is obedience.

If you enter into the kingdom of heaven, you will be called least and I will be called great. Matthew 5:19.

It is running after the invention of man.

Unless you can present a Scripture where God commands us to tithe our money? Thus far you haven't.

Please present the Scripture that says we are to tithe our money. Until you can present said Scripture, it is best you refrain from telling me how wrong I am.
