The Lord is with you while you are with Him. If you seek Him, He will be found by you; but if you forsake Him, He will forsake you.

Let your conduct be without covetousness; be content with such things as you have. For He Himself has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you

“For I am the Lord, I do not change;

So which is it???? I thought this might be a good debate....not to sow discord but to understand.

First we have to look a the context that Deut 31:6 is spoken:

Deuteronomy 31:5-6,5 “And יהוה shall give them over to you, and you shall do to them according to all the command which I have commanded you."6 “Be strong and courageous, do not fear nor be afraid of them. For it is יהוה your Elohim who is going with you. He does not fail you nor forsake you.”"

COnsider 2 things...

1. They were about to go off to war against surrounding nations who were trying to wipe them out and were involved in the worst satanic religious practice in the ancient world. Battle can be a hard thing and peoiple can get discouraged when things don;t go as planned, the one who trust in Yah will contine in the path He has laid before them...

2. If the chapter right before this one matters, we will see "a blessing and a curse"

Deuteronomy 30:1-2,1 “And it shall be, when all these words come upon you, the blessing and the curse which I have set before you, and you shall bring them back to your heart among all the nations where יהוה your Elohim drives you,"2 and shall turn back to יהוה your Elohim and obey His voice, according to all that I command you today, with all your heart and with all your being, you and your children,"

If we want to just hear a nice message we strip "He does not fail you nor forsake you." from it;s context and we feel wonderful. If we actually care about what He says we look into it deeper, what does He want, what does He Instruct, etc. Bottom line is He was telling them to go on a mission and He will be with them. This is not a be all catch all for any situation, people love to totally reject the Most High and then out of context quote this verse...

Words from the Master:

Luke 9:62, "But יהושע said to him, “No one, having put his hand to the plow, and looking back, is fit for the reign of YHWH.”

Reminds me of this:

2 Chronicles 15:1-2, “And the Spirit of Elohim came upon Azaryahu son of Oḏĕḏ."2 And he went out to face Asa, and said to him, “Hear me, Asa, and all Yehuḏah and Binyamin. יהוה is with you while you are with Him. And if you seek Him, He is found by you, but if you forsake Him, He forsakes you.”

This convo brings to mind...

John 7:39 [blb] -

"Now He said this concerning the Spirit, whom those having believed in Him were about to [or, certain to] receive; for the Spirit was not yet given, because Jesus was not yet glorified."

[and]

Ephesians 1:13-14 [blb] -

"in whom you also, having heard the word of truth, the gospel your of salvation [1Cor15:1-4 incl'g His Resurrection], in whom also having believed you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise, who is the guarantee of our inheritance to [eis] the redemption of the acquired possession [this speaks to His ownership], to the praise of His glory."

[and]

1 Corinthians 6:20 [ylt] -

"for ye were bought with a price; glorify, then, God in your body and in your spirit, which are God's."

It also reminds me of this:

Hebrews 13:20-21 [blb] -

"Now may the God of peace, having brought out from the dead the great Shepherd of the sheep, our Lord Jesus, by [en] the blood of the eternal covenant, equip you in everything good, in order to do His will, working in us that which is well pleasing before Him, through/by means of Jesus Christ, to whom be the glory to the ages of the ages. Amen."

Let me just add this thought for clarification: the verses I placed in my post #4 refer to [to, for, and about] "the Church which is His body" (in "this present age" [Eph1:20-23]) [...not to all other saints of all OTHER time periods]

God does not change ... He is still absolutely holy and He still demands that same degree of perfection from those that would spend eternity with Him. However, His plan for mankind is progressive and dispensational.

In the age of Law He demanded that man provide their own covering from sin through gifts and sacrifices - under grace He hath provided ‘himself’ a Lamb.

The death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ is PAYMENT IN FULl and believers are now PERFECTLY HOLY and saved through Him.

Too many folks are trying to apply God’s plan toward Israel to themselves - and are confusing themselves and those that follow them.

In essence they are preaching another gospel and are accursed.

30 What shall we say then? That the Gentiles, which followed not after righteousness, have attained to righteousness, even the righteousness which is of faith.

31 But Israel, which followed after the law of righteousness, hath not attained to the law of righteousness.

32 Wherefore? Because they sought it not by faith, but as it were by the works of the law. For they stumbled at that stumblingstone;

33 As it is written, Behold, I lay in Sion a stumblingstone and rock of offence: and whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed.

romans 10
Brethren, my heart's desire and prayer to God for Israel is, that they might be saved.

2 For I bear them record that they have a zeal of God, but not according to knowledge.

3 For they being ignorant of God's righteousness, and going about to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God.

4 For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to every one that believeth.

5 For Moses describeth the righteousness which is of the law, That the man which doeth those things shall live by them.

6 But the righteousness which is of faith speaketh on this wise, Say not in thine heart, Who shall ascend into heaven? (that is, to bring Christ down from above: )

7 Or, Who shall descend into the deep? (that is, to bring up Christ again from the dead.)

8 But what saith it? The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach;

9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.

People simply can not grasp that the OT and the Gospels can not be comprehended apart from the Pauline epistles. It was to him that God gave the key to unlock the mysteries of the prophets.
Hmm U think, I see...

This my friends is basic knowledge of God. It has nothing to do with the old testament vs the new.
Some here will say ..no...Jesus said he will not leave or forsake us.

Jesus also said....

Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani?” that is, “My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?”

Please explain the word 'sealed' in the following passage . . .

"That we should be to the praise of his glory, who first trusted in Christ. In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise, Which is the earnest of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, unto the praise of his glory" (Ephesians 1:12-14).

I would put emphasis on explaining "earnest of our inheritance." :)

Certainly that is the conclusion . . . but the sealing is what makes it possible. In layman's terms it could be referred to as a 'down payment', or earnest money. If the deal falls through - that is, if God fails to keep His promise to keep up - then we get to keep the earnest deposit.

Now THAT is eternal security!!!

You can not have a confusion free gospel mixing 66 books of scripture and try to get one message. The individual never fully comes to understand the Christ that is in them. What you get is the strangeness of religion that exsists in the world.

Here are a few "But now" verses for consideration, which I believe relate somewhat to the OP question:

--Acts 17:30
--Romans 3:21
--Romans 7:6
--Romans 16:26
--1 Corinthians 12:18
--1 Corinthians 15:20
--Colossians 1:26-27
--2 Timothy 1:10
--Hebrews 8:6
--1 Peter 2:10 [Luke 19:42]

Then there's also (for consideration) the phrase:

--2 Peter 1:12 "and having been established in the present truth" [which bold has/contains a "verbal adjective," but I need to brush up on my Greek, it's fuzzy :D ]

Isaiah:49
14 But Zion said, “The Lord has forsaken me,
the Lord has forgotten me.”
15 “Can a mother forget the baby at her breast
and have no compassion on the child she has borne?
Though she may forget,
I will not forget you!
16 See, I have engraved you on the palms of my hands;

there are probably at least 50 scriptures in the O/T and N/Tt
to say basically the same thing. So God will never abandon
us; only we can abandon Him. Jesus did not come on earth
because we were good. He came to help us be good. None
of us will ever be perfect but that should never stop us from
striving for perfection.
