Markum, Thank you for this information but after you know the IP address is false how do you forward it to the FBI?

The FBI link is at the top. There are a few others so you can report the scams to other countries where the scammer(s) are located.
There are also a lot of other links where you can look-up e-mail addresses and such to see if they have been reported. Yet more links that you can visit to read some of the ongoing scams so you can identify them. Pretty much everything you need is here...

Man i suck at hiding things and I'm
Usually the first person to tell on myself .. i can't remember what I ate yesterday , let alone try to keep up with elaborate stories .. can you imagine what a talent like that would be like used in Gods kingdom ?
Wow how wasted on stuff like that ...

1.The person doesn't post a picture of themselves.
2. The person won't give you specific names of people in their life.
3. The person won't call you without blocking their number.(only to find out that the name coming up on caller id for their phone number is Francine some thing or other. True story! My ex mil just told me that is what name comes up when I call her house phone)
4. She won't tell you her true weight!
5.She doesn't have Facebook.( shocking)t
6. She sounds young and sweet on the phone. I mean come on who sounds that good on the phone)

Oh never mind, those are the signs of her protecting her children along with herself. To some of you though, those would be signs she isn't who she says she is.

This is a very good point, Chrissy (and I'm not on Facebook either.)

I do know it's a very thin line and hard to know where to draw it.

I appreciate your perspective, as I'm very careful with my personal information as well (guys get mad that I don't just hand out my phone number or even email address unless I've communicated with them on a site such as this for a long time.)

I often struggle with knowing how much to share vs. common sense and personal protection.

I totally, 100%, agree with you on this. I used to be on Facebook all the time, but soon grew tired of it and I haven't used it in forever. I'm kind of a paranoid person when it comes to this whole getting to know people online thing. I haven't really done that before, so it's a bit weird when people are asking for my phone number and I have only chatted with them for like a couple of weeks or so. It's like, uh, really? lol I mean, we are practically strangers and you want me to just hand out my number like nothing. I don't mind giving out my email, but I'd like to know the person for a few months before I consider giving out more personal information to them. So it totally is a struggle on how much I should share vs. common sense and personal protection.

Now, on the topic of lying about who you are... I don't get it. Why would anyone do that unless they are trying to scam people out of something? Either that, or they have way too much time on their hand.

Something I thought you guys might think is cool.

I once had someone message me out of the blue on my yahoo messenger. This was a little over a year ago. A girl claiming she found my profile somewhere and wanted to talk. Sent me an e-mail. Was from Ghana. I knew it was a guy I was talking to (call is discernment). I called him out on it and began to tell him about Jesus. I googled and found a good church near where he lived. Told him he should check it out.
He then tells me that he had been to that church but hadn't been going for awhile. He said he was going to go back and repent for what he had been doing and turn his life to God.
I can't believe I had forgotten about this. Pretty cool, huh.
I found offline messages from him a few times after that saying that he had been going to church and things were going well.
