I'm lying to everyone about who I am...I'm sorry...but I'm not the all-powerful alicorn ruler of the land of Equestria. I always wanted to be...a LUMBERJACK! Leaping from tree to tree as they float down the rivers of British Columbia!

Hey Everyone,

I just realized I got away from the original question in my last thread (how to tell if someone is lying to you about who they are), so I wanted to post some circumstances that I have both heard and experienced. I would like to hear about what all my fellow CC'ers have gone through as well.

Do any of these situations sound familiar? Or, do you have other clues you'd like to share? Please post your thoughts!

I realize some people might think I'M a "poser" because, for instance, I'm probably one of maybe only 5 people left on the planet who isn't on Facebook, MSN, Yahoo, etc. (by choice--I was on there a few years ago and had some experiences I'd rather avoid, such as people who knew my ex-husband contacting me.) But, I can assure you, what you see is what you get, both good and bad!!

How about all of you? When can you tell someone is the real deal... and what, in your mind, raises red flags?

Ok, on a site that I was on, I didn't post my full pic, just a head shot. And I was off and on. However, that did not mean I was a lier. Instead, I took breaks, to keep myself from becoming too addicted to the site.

Finally the truth comes out, I became suspicious as I wondered how was it possible that you type on a keyboard with hooves.

My top sign if someone is lying is when they call themselves "X" and you do a tinyeye reverse search on their profile pic and find another profile and their name is "Y"

Top sign: when someone tells you that he is a lawyer when you met him, but after 2 days he says that he will do a surgery

Cant expect much truth about a person online.

Some people get so caught up in their lies, they forget which is the truth.

One chatter, asked for prayer---for him to meet whomever God has planned for him as he was lonely, So i prayed.
After a couple of days, this same dude, asked me to pray for his 'girlfriend of three months' cause they were having problems.
Needless to say, I 'reminded' this dude about his prayer request a few days back. He suddenly 'logged off"...

One person asked me if he could see me on cam, I said, "hey, you dont even know my first name, and you want to see me on cam? What the?"
Adding to insult, this person said he couldn't go on cam himself as He didnt have a webcam.

As I said,
Cant expect much truth about a person online.

Its a "feel" "vibe" maybe one can pickup on.
I had my computer hacked for almost 2 yrs and they can actually chatt as someone you know.I can be chatting with my mother (so i think) when its them...
If I know her "vibe" and personality and I notice the difference plus mother says she did not write..... and I know I have these guys "harassing, violating" me.
I got a lot of hate and illwill on me (for no justifiable reason, I did no wrong)
Its sad they dont have better things to do.

Theres different ways of being deceiptful on internet perhaps.
Some do it by giving false identity when dating when they really are married "IRL" so to say..
Others do it to steel or just to bully and mess with someone they dont like for whatever reason.
Theres many different ways.

if they are really good at computers your internet protection is not enough to protect you anyway.

The same Spirit that is in me which desires to love others, also is the same Spirit that gives me discernment from good from evil. I may get momentarily deceived, but the Lord's Holy Spirit will awaken me to any type of deception and will reveal the motives of people to my heart, whether they have pure motives, or whether they try to creep in unaware to work any evil scheme. I have chatted with so called females who I know are actually males, most of the time playing the super Godly type and needing money to say, feed starving children. They figure a good christian can't possibly turn down starving children. That makes it hard when there actually are children all over this planet who breathe the same air as we do that really are starving. To all those who practice deception: God will repay you for your evil deeds.

I only checked two of them:
The person doesn't post entire pictures of him/herself. This usually means they are ugly and don't want anyone to know that. The whole concealing your identity online thing is hogwash...just because someone knows your screen name and what your face looks like doesn't mean they can stalk you. You pass by thousands of people every day who see your face and it's just as anonymous as the internet; you don't remember everyone who saw your face today, do you?
AND
The person won't answer direct questions (about what they do for a living, etc.). They are probably hiding the fact that they live in their mother's basement or something. Why wouldn't you tell someone what you do for a living? That's another paranoid stupid thing.

The rest of them, I think could easily be explain with other reasons. Such as:

The person gives you "their" number... and someone of the opposite gender answsers, or is on their answering message. That could just be their friends messing around.
The person can only talk to you at very specific times... for questionable reasons. Some people actually have lives and can't just talk to some internet person at any time in the day.
The person "disappears" and "comes back" sporadically... with little to no excuse. Again, some people actually have lives.
The person refuses to talk on camera (this is debatable to me... I don't talk on camera either!) Talking on camera is weird, especially with a stranger.
The person says they want to meet but always gives excuses when a meeting is actually set up. This could just mean they're a flake, not that they're lying.
You make times to talk with that person... and they usually don't show up or make up an excuse. Also, this means they're a flake.
The person is constantly letting you down... but always asking for another chance and/or your forgiveness with no real explanation. Also flake.

Unless you're a hippo, you're not showing a pic of yourself. And if some people have a little insecurity and don't want to show a pic at first, then we're no one to judge them.

And sometimes people don't want to answer certain things until they feel safe telling you. A lot people, specially girls, have been stalked and creeped on, so it's understandable that they want to be safe about certain info. Trust is earned, you just don't go around asking for whatever you want and expect to get whatever you want.

I always believed that even tho we're in an online world, we should still not trust anyone until the can prove to be trusted. You don't go randomly talking to ppl on the streets and asking for their personal info and giving out yours, do you? It takes a while for people to answer questions and for some it might take a bit longer.

Just to let you know, this one person, on another site, did happen to figure out where I lived, without me posting a pic. Also there was no information linked to my name that reveal who I was or where I lived, other than state. So yeah, people need to be safe.

For me, a big red flag that they may be lying about things about themselves, or be habitual liars in general, is if they insist to you that "everyone out there on the internet is a liar until proven otherwise", or "there is absolutely no way you can trust that someone is who they say they are unless they prove it by voice chatting" or make up elaborate paranoid assumptions about your online friends you just know are harmless that they haven't even met (I say this from experience...I later found out that this person lied to me about some things).

It's often the deceptive people who trust others the least.

I am going to post this here because I consider you all to be non-judgmental friends. Just a disclaimer: I have learned from this experience and now who I am is who I am, what you see is what you get.

When I first joined CC in 2004, I was 13 years old. I still remember some of the people that were here then that I highly doubt are still here. I was in a very lonely and scary place then emotionally and mentally; my self-esteem was nil and I was feeling very unloved. That being said, I came to CC and a few other sites as an alias - I came under a name that made me 54 years old with children, grandchildren, etc. The red flags that showed people I was lying was that my numbers didn't add up as far as my children's ages compared to grandchildren's ages. I, in a sense, wanted to be find out yet didn't - I never expected anyone to check the numbers - and they didn't here at CC. The lies went on for about a year before I finally found the Lord and He convicted my spirit to come clean to everyone I had become close to. Judgment was cast, feelings were hurt (rightfully so), and I left CC of my own accord until I came back in 2009 and again officially for good this October.

The reason I share this is not to raise suspicion, but simply to say that there are many red flags, some of which you have mentioned. One red flag would be to watch their typing style; I am a big ''reader'' of typing styles, and if they have the typing style of a teenager but say they are, for instance, 54 - Chances are they COULD be lying (that is debatable, though, some folks just don't like to type). Another red flag was, as I mentioned, the numbers in their family or their age, if they give it, not adding up correctly. The phone number suggestion was definitely a good one; someone called and asked for me one time and my mother said, "Yes, she's my daughter hold on just a moment," and that made someone suspicious.

The internet can be a blessing but it can also be a dangerous place; I've had a lot of trust issues because of my own experience and knowing how easy it is to suck people in and fool them into thinking you are something you are not!

Sorry for the ramble-rant! :)

I also remembered one other tip:

If someone says that they went through an absolutely tragic series of events, yet they are online the very same day and exhibiting laughter and other emotions, chances are they MIGHT be lying about the thing.

Not exactly that, but have heard of something similar to that happening before.

...Says the guy with no picture up. I love it! U-G-L-Y! You ain't got no alibi!
Anyway, whether you are astute enough to realize it or not, there are many other reasons why somebody wouldn't want to give you a picture.
Personally, I get plenty of attention in real life from guys that only care about how I look. Why on Earth would I want more of the same on the internet?
If somebody asks me for a picture right away, hmm... let's see... what could they be interested in? My personality? My brains? People who are only interested in beauty don't deserve to look at it.

Trust is earned, you just don't go around asking for whatever you want and expect to get whatever you want.
Henreeey! You have a great attitude. That's why I sent you a picture a few weeks ago ;)

Yep, you caught me! I'm less attractive than the hippo I hide behind =)

There are definitely reasons why I don't post my pic up anymore. I'm not saying it means someone is lying. What I am saying is that it's a red flag. Red flag away. Usually if someone asks to see a picture, I show them.

iam always me,whenever wherever, although iam careful with the info i give out.but i dont liar about who iam.and i dont try to meet anyone i find online,so there's no need for false exchange of no.s or contacts.
