If a man desires to be the provider, and truly lead in his home, Is doomed to aloneness in todays world?

I desire to have a marriage that is strong and biblical and that celebrates traditional values. ie. Men honoring God through serving him family as a leader and a wife honoring God as his partner and even providing a strong home environment and being there to support her husband and care for thier family.

It is definitely more difficult to pursue this dream these days. But hey! You're only meant to be with one person. If it makes you feel any better, that's the kind of marriage my uncle has, and he isn't much older than you are.

There are a lot of directions that this question could go, which is why I kept my first response short. There's no type of person that's inherently doomed to be alone, you could argue that many people feel alone in relationships, or fulfilled without a partner, etc.

To make sure I'm interpreting correctly, as far as traditional values go, do you mean in the material sense where the man is the breadwinner and the wife stays at home to cook, clean, care for kids?

I guess in a narrow sence, Yes. I feel strongly about the servant leadership role that Christ exampled for us and the responsibilities of a Man for his family towards our Lord. and the responsibility of a wife to care for her home and family.

I know many men they don't like home jobs, cos home jobs never end. so when they came from job they only want to put they legs on the table and watch football when there wiveis keep on cleaning here and there. but if you men love your wifes you should try to do what your wifes do only for two days and you'll reall understand how your wifes get tired, and stirt helping her. and stop thinking about your tradition.

No one is doomed. There are plenty of women that want a traditional marriage and family.

Masha,

Make no mistake. I want to be very active and I dont watch sports or any significant amout of TV. I'm not at all into needing a slave. I just believe Home is to important for it to be Part Time.

I am sorry to say, I have searched for many years and cannot find a woman who TRULY wants a Biblical marriage. There are always a few exceptions, usually huge ones. And yes, ladies, I am all about loving a wife as Christ loved the church and gave Himself for it! American Culture has replaced striving to live according to the Word. Our divorce rate is off the scale and few are happy in their marriages. Look at those you know. The best, most Biblical marriages, are the ones of older people who honor Biblical (traditional) ways in marriage. Sorry ladies, we cannot be "equal" because you're a woman and I'm a man. My "feminine side" is just not big enough to be equal to yours.

I would love to find a woman who wants to be treated as Jesus treats the Church, but realizes she has Biblical responsibilities also. I'm a gentle, generous man with a very tender heart and I respect ladies greatly. But something is missing.

So cctmedic, If you ever find such a lady and reject her for some reason, let me know. Standing, still waiting to put somone ahead of me in life and treat her like a queen!

I will keep you in mind.

As I read through the replies to my post it appears there is a bit traditional and contemporary folks reading it.

One thing I want to make clear. family and marriage is WORK make no mistake, I know that, all to well. But it takes both working. Not Man on sofa watching sports or wife on sofa watching Day Junk TV. There is always reward when work is involved home, family and providing don't take care of themselves. Not to mention Ministry, Church and service to our Lord as well as making sure that family follows our Lord. I believe in the Priesthood of the home and that the family, regardless of its size or make up, Is the Primary unit of the Church.

Most certainly that applies out here in the country life that I love so much.

I Think My ADD kicked in...LOL

I know a lot of ladies who would happily be stay at home moms. However, I also know that many of them have a difficult time with the husbandly headship thing for various reasons. Some don't understand the scriptures. Some are confused by worldly teachings that bombard women today about how things should be. Some are healing from abuse. Some have difficulty surrendering their pride and will to the Lord. Some have been involved with men who have read Ephesians 5:22-24 (or someone told them about it and it sounded good, so they never read it for themselves), but these men have never read the rest of the chapter regarding the things that are required of THEM in a marriage.

If I marry again, I do want him to be the head and priest of the home. I want to take care of my home and family, as I did from the age of 18 until my husband passed because I KNOW it works better when we do it God's way.

If it is God's plan for my life for me to have more children and if my husband wanted me to stay home with them while they were small, I would be okay with that. However, once they were older and in school, I would really like to go back to work. I like working. I would even be willing to work from home if he was agreeable to that, but I would go nuts if I didn't stay busy. I'm a very energetic, well organized person, so it doesn't take me long to whip my home into shape. These are things that MUST be discussed BEFORE you marry.

I think there is much truth to the saying that idleness is the devil's playground. If we don't fill our time up with good things, unhealthy things can creep in....then depression creeps in...then self-worth issues creep in...then the arguments start...then the divorces come. Not for everyone I'm sure, but I have seen this a lot and I'm sure others have as well. In my mom's day, addiction to soap operas and the resulting depression and need for drama became an issue. These days, the Internet can cause a lot of problems. We've all seen this end marriages.

The bottom line for me is not whether this is what I want or whether I even like it, but that I will stand before the Lord one day and I want HIM to be pleased with the way I cared for my husband and family. And I know that any husband who may enter my life will stand before Him and be held accountable for how he cared for his wife and family as well.

If you LOVE your wife...
If you communicate with your wife...
If you treat her with love and respect...
If you are a godly man worthy of respect...
If you find a woman who loves AND respects you...
If you take the time to pray about your relationship...
It can work just fine no matter what century it is. God is the same yesterday, today and forever.

Ive taken care of things myself for so long, i would find it almost next to impossible to have someone else step in and tell me what to do.

I appreciate your honesty.
I do feel for you though. It seems as though you will have trouble trusting in two things. The first being that a man will take care of you. The other being that you don't trust God to provide that man for you.

The Point is not telling a wife what to do. That is a total misconception of what it is to lead as Christ led, and not at all what I'm talking about.

Thing are so much better God's way. Make no mistake as a man I know its men that have allowed this thought process to occur.

I can totally relate to what Nod is saying.

Yet truth be told, I wouldn't mind being a "housewife" at all--though my idea of being a housewife would be having at least a part-time job or be involved in several volunteer opportunities.

I am also NOT trying to bash men at all (I certainly know that women are guilty as well), but another thing that seems to happen is if you do find a man who can be a provider (has a secure lifestyle), he feels a sense of entitlement and is unwilling to compromise on anything.

Maybe it's just me but men who are able to provide a traditional household these days also seem more apt to... How can I put this delicately. Trade a woman in for the newest, youngest model... because he believes he deserves God's best... and surely God's best for him is the best-looking woman he meets. As I said, I know women are guilty of similar reasoning. It's frustrating for all involved, I know.

I'm sorry guys, I know some of you are not like that at all!! It's just that it's becoming harder and harder to find you, and I'm sure you feel that way about us as well.

I can see how a woman might think that. the things you are describing are so not the way God has designed it. I wont to follow Gods plan.

none of that applies if a man is following Christ's example.

If a guy is just "telling you what to do", he's doing it wrong. That's not how Christ loves/treats the Church.
