Genesis said that man "1st Adam" was made in "our image".
I teach the "our image" : as "God the Father, Christ the Pre-incarnate Word, and The Holy Spirit.
Others teach this as God the Father, God the Word, God the Holy Spirit.

Man is also, by " Our image", created as 3.
1. Body
2. Soul
3. Spirit
You live in a body
You have a soul
You are a Spirit,
So, you are a Spirit. You live in a body, and you have a mind.
John 4 teaches that God is "A" Spirit.
The reason a real bible will teach this correctly as "A", is because this is the Holy Spirit making the distinction between God's Spirit, and all others.
For example.....if that verse says that '" God is Spirit", then how would you understand God's Spirit which is HOLY< to be different the Satan's spirit, that is "unholy"?
There IS the Holy Spirit, and there IS the unholy Spirit.....these are not the same, SPIRITUALLY, reader.
That distinction being made really matters, and so, that is why your bible must say...>God is "A" Spirit, and not just "God is spirit".
Now......The Body, which is our house......as our Spirit lives in our body, is affected by these 5..
"senses"........ Touch, Taste, Hear, Smell, See
This is what activates the Body

The Soul realm, is not the Spirit, and its not the body.
The Soul realm is :
1. MInd
2. Will
3. Emotions.
Inside your "soul" or your "soul realm", is where you think, and where you make choices.
Its within the soul, that you find the will, and of course the free will.
Its within the soul, that you find your conscience.
To have free will is to be able to make a choice.
This is the mind.
The way you feel about things, is the emotions.
Knowing when you have done something bad or wrong.....is your conscience.
This is all the "soul realm".
Now to the real you....

The real you is your SPIRIT
1. Spirit

When you are born again, you are born again Spiritually.
"worship God in SPIRIT, and in Truth" because God is "A" Spirit.
This is the REAL YOU.
See......You body is not born again and your mind is not born again.
This is why you will get a new Body, and are told by Paul in the NT to "RENEW" your mind.
When you are born again, you become "ONE with God"..... Spiritually JOINED. """But he that is joined unto the Lord is one Spirit."""" 1 Corinthians 6:17
This is what it means to be "in Christ". (Spiritual Union).
See it?
Your Spirit IS born again, and this means that you have become a part of God's Holy Spirit. = "One with God". "But he that is joined unto the Lord is one Spirit.""
To be born again, is to be born again INTO the Spirit of God, (joined) by The Spirit of God.
You end up with Christ in you, and you "in Christ".
Christ Himself is our Righteousness and our Eternal life, and our Spirit is now joined into and with His, and that is why we have become "IN Christ", and "Christ in you, the hope of Glory".
The born again are "made righteous" having become....>"the righteousness of God, in Christ"........This is the "gift of Righteousness" becoming your born again Spirit.
Its by becoming "In Christ" Spiritually.... that we become the same as Christ, ...literally,..... as a "Son of God" as a "Heir of God" and as a "Joint Heir with Christ"..
This is why the 1 John 4 says of all the born again..:
= "As Christ IS.....so are the born again, in this world""
This is what it means to literally be "made righteous", and have become "the righteousness of God, IN Christ".

Now the way this is usually taught is that when Adam died, so did he Spiritually die.
But that isn't really accurate..tho you can teach it that way..... However.. as the "death", was not the death of Adam's Spirit but it was the separation of Adam's Spirit, from God's Spirit.
Spiritual union between the 2 Adams and God was BROKEN.
God came here as Christ on the Cross to RESTORE this broken relationship as "born again".
See, our spirit never dies, it just finally ends up as born again or not, and we take our last breath, as one of those.
So each human Spirit ends up, as "One with God " "in Christ", or it ends up eternally separated from God after death, exactly as you find the Spiritual separation that exists between all unbelievers and God's Spirit, at all times, as defined here........ John 3:36
The born again have "passed from death to life"......this means we now exist as "One with God", by being born again Into the Holy Spirit of God, "in Christ", This is accomplished not by water baptism, but by the Holy Spirit. This is the "new birth" = that recreates us as a "New Creation" in Christ".....SPIRITUALLY.
When we are reconciled to God, based on what Christ said : "it is finished" on the Cross, then its our SPIRIT that has been RESTORED or...."But he that is joined unto the Lord is ONE SPIRIT."""

That is restored Spiritual Union between God's Spirit and the BORN AGAIN Spirit in a BELIEVER who is become "One with God".....as a NEW Creation, "in Christ".
1st Adam lost that .......and the 2nd Adam came to restore that to everyone, by this... John 14:6. and this...>Jesus said....>"you must be born again".
And to get that, = you have to hear the Gospel, which is the "preaching of the Cross", which is the "power of God unto Salvation", that happens when "faith comes by hearing" the word of God, and you BELIEVE. = "Faith is counted as Righteousness"......."Justification by faith"....."born again" AS. "the righteousness of God, in Christ".......by receiving "the GIFT of Righteousness" that is "the GIFT of Salvation".
God accepts our faith to give us ..."the Gift of righteousness", as "the Gift of Salvation".
= Born again.
= ONE with God
= In Christ
