True US American here, Norwegian, Scotts, Welsh, Dutch, and American Indian, and this is only what I know of. Sorry! Of this is all I know.

His Dad said he was raised in NY. He then moved to Australia because NY was too wicked and not a place to raise a traditional family. Eventually, Australia was considered a worldly secular place and the Dad brought the sons back to America to eventually live in my fine state.
I never asked Mr Gibson where his ancestors were from, but Mel certainly did an excellent job of portraying their most famous Scottish hero didn't he?
This Scottish actor played an Egyptian Spaniard who trained a French actor who portrayed a Scot. He was certainly not handsome enough and was waaay too old for the single ladies on this forum from what I've heard.

New England, New Jersey and New York are not Scottish enough. There is no New Scotland, except for Nouvelle Caledonia but that's not in the US.
I might not have been clear about who I was talking about.
I knew Mel's father Hutton Gibson, but not Mel. He settled many years here in West Virginia until he moved to California near family.
His death/obituary was kept private with no public announcements that Hutton died 6 years ago this month. He was a very conservative Roman Catholic.
I'm not Catholic, but we agreed on the social issues like pro life and God-given freedoms.
Hutton's teaching and raising his boys is why his boy Mel wasn't doing much acting when he played his heroic movies. Mel was speaking from the heart in those roles as a loving Dad and Christian hero.

My Dad and I used to attend the yearly festival at the yard surrounding a Presbyterian church in Pennsylvania.
Those were fond memories.
There were a bunch of guys in kilts in competitive events, music and food. No Catholic Leprechauns though!

I didn't claim that he was a true scot or a Christian. I was sharing some of his honorable views.
I would never say someone was saved by good works of righteousness, being a Catholic or a Protestant. I just hope that he trusted Christ to save him.
However, I prayed many times that God would send him someone who would share the gospel with him, having regretted missing my last opportunity. I was fond of the man and hope with all my heart that he was saved. Likewise the same for his family, Mel and his brothers.
